  1. hi everyone,

I hear from my wife very often : sister's sick - fever , mother's sick - fever, housekeeper -sick, niece - fever(all living in different houses)  it seems never ending.

Is it easy to avoid getting fevers\chills\sickness on a regular basis by sensible eating and healthy lifestyle? Or is it just part of living in tropical zones such as Thailand?

    thanks for your thoughts,

  2. hi list, thanks for all the handy tips, I am out of LOS at present. My wife says the task has been assessed and there are not blockages (professional skills unknown) and that the solution is to buy one of these pumps, see pic.

10,000 BHT and 950BHT to fit.

I may be asking too subjective a question, but here goes anyway.

does the price seem reasonable and right?

do you think this unit will fix the problem?

  3. can anyone on this forum give me a Lotto 101 summary? I've asked my wife but after telling me the last 3 numbers are important she was scant on any other details.

    Where to buy?

    how do you win?

    What are the prizes?

Can Foreigners buy tickets and claim prizes?

    How often are draws?

How do know the tickets you are buying are legit?

what is the cost of the tickets?

Where do the proceeds of sales go to? Seller, charity? all to the gov?

I am I missing anything else on this topic?

looking forward to your answers. thanks in advance

  4. hi list,

at a 2 level property in Bang Khen the water pressure upstairs and downstairs is very poor, there is small pump (possibly too low a capacity), some sort of water reservoir and plumbing pipes.  My wife says other units in the block don't have this problem (not verified).

    I have attached some pics.

Does anyone know what the problem might be and or suggest a reputable company to quote and fix?

    thanks in advance

  5. This discussion is based on a totally dumb question that invites those moronic twins - racism and ignorance - to place judgements on the table and pretend they're rational and/or informed.  How on earth could you expect followers and contributors to a forum provided for expats, native English speakers who are visitors in this country, to have any insight or meaningful understanding of the local citizenry and make any useful conclusions about such a delicate, controversial issue?
It is a topic that can only lead to unwelcome results. I wonder if any of those making judgements here would appreciate similar "wisdom" and advice from Thais visiting their home countries and making public their own conclusions about what they see as social problems.
To even invite discussion demonstrates a lack of propriety, decency and common sense. To jump in and declare judgement openly is stupidity at best.

I asked the question for the right reasons.

If posters chose to ignore the actual question then they show their ignorance and their opinions can be disregarded.

That you think it's a totally dumb question says a lot about you.

Before this gets closed,  from my observations and taking about them with my Thai friends where l live they don't like or want them but l guess in other parts of Thailand they integrate OK,  as for myself l feel very uncomfortable being among them.

    why would this get closed?

  7. In Australia this week SBS TV is having a focus of racism. This has made me think of this question.

What are the attitudes of the average Buddhist person in Thailand towards the Muslim population in Thailand?

  8. haha Briggsy, alas nothing that nefarious (great series), especially not in LOS! she did actually mention starting a car wash business. Just one of her many business ideas.

So if I understand  what I am reading from the experienced members.

I can start any business with the capital and employees and just list my legitimate activities  as part of the work permit application.

    Correct?

    thanks again

  9. thanks for the answers,

considering my work is dependent on many years of experience the employees in any such business would not be much value to me in regards to the IT support.

Could my wife and I setup a business for example a car wash have the employees doing manual labour, admin etc, and I work at the same location doing my remote support work? Or is there some stipulation of work duties in the permit that would preclude me from carrying out my remote support tasks?

or could the business be car wash and IT services?

  10. hi forum,

I am married to a Thai so expect to get a visa based on that. My current business is in computer network support and I remotely administer several hundred computers in Australia. My plan is to continue to do this in Thailand. I would be based in a home office, and also be connecting remotely to these computers in Australia via a laptop when out of the house.

Is there a way to obtain a work permit so I am conducting myself in a legal way while in Thailand?

If so could someone provide some tips on this process?

if not, what are the penalties if caught performing work this way?

    thanks in advance

  11. hi list,

I am going to Thailand from Australia on a 30 day tourist visa

does anyone know if my wife has to register me at the local office as living at her house within 24 hours of arrival as per section 38 below? Or is this only for longer or different type visas?

    thanks

  12. hi list,

I am making international money transfers from Australia to Thailand,

have tried, my bank , western union, XE and every time the receiving Thai bank takes a fee of between 500-600 Baht, even though western union and XE and transferring Thai Baht.

Does anyone know how to avoid this 500 baht fee?

I am finding out if there is any charge to receive from pay pal. but the transactions times are long for this type of transaction so would prefer to avoid.

city bank might be an option as they have branches in both Australia and Thailand but they want a minimum 100,000 baht deposit to open the account in Thailand so this is not a preferred option either.

    Anyone have any other ideas?

    cheers
