Before this gets closed,  from my observations and taking about them with my Thai friends where l live they don't like or want them but l guess in other parts of Thailand they integrate OK,  as for myself l feel very uncomfortable being among them.

    why would this get closed?

  2. In Australia this week SBS TV is having a focus of racism. This has made me think of this question.

What are the attitudes of the average Buddhist person in Thailand towards the Muslim population in Thailand?

  3. haha Briggsy, alas nothing that nefarious (great series), especially not in LOS! she did actually mention starting a car wash business. Just one of her many business ideas.

So if I understand  what I am reading from the experienced members.

I can start any business with the capital and employees and just list my legitimate activities  as part of the work permit application.

    Correct?

    thanks again

  4. thanks for the answers,

considering my work is dependent on many years of experience the employees in any such business would not be much value to me in regards to the IT support.

Could my wife and I setup a business for example a car wash have the employees doing manual labour, admin etc, and I work at the same location doing my remote support work? Or is there some stipulation of work duties in the permit that would preclude me from carrying out my remote support tasks?

or could the business be car wash and IT services?

  5. hi forum,

I am married to a Thai so expect to get a visa based on that. My current business is in computer network support and I remotely administer several hundred computers in Australia. My plan is to continue to do this in Thailand. I would be based in a home office, and also be connecting remotely to these computers in Australia via a laptop when out of the house.

Is there a way to obtain a work permit so I am conducting myself in a legal way while in Thailand?

If so could someone provide some tips on this process?

if not, what are the penalties if caught performing work this way?

    thanks in advance

  6. hi list,

I am going to Thailand from Australia on a 30 day tourist visa

does anyone know if my wife has to register me at the local office as living at her house within 24 hours of arrival as per section 38 below? Or is this only for longer or different type visas?

    thanks

Section 38 : The house – master , the owner or the possessor of the residence , or the hotel manager where the alien , receiving permission to stay temporary in the Kingdom has stayed , must notify the competent official of the Immigration Office located in the same area with that hours , dwelling place or hotel, within 24 hours from the time of arrival of the alien concerned. If there is no Immigration Office located in that area , the local police official for that area must be notified. In case the house , dwelling place , or hotel where the alien has stayed under provision of Para.1 is located within the Bangkok area , such notification must be reported to the competent official at the Immigration Division.Making notification , in reference to the Para 1 and 2 of this Section , must comply with regulations prescribed by the Director General.

  7. hi list,

I am making international money transfers from Australia to Thailand,

have tried, my bank , western union, XE and every time the receiving Thai bank takes a fee of between 500-600 Baht, even though western union and XE and transferring Thai Baht.

Does anyone know how to avoid this 500 baht fee?

I am finding out if there is any charge to receive from pay pal. but the transactions times are long for this type of transaction so would prefer to avoid.

city bank might be an option as they have branches in both Australia and Thailand but they want a minimum 100,000 baht deposit to open the account in Thailand so this is not a preferred option either.

    Anyone have any other ideas?

    cheers

  8. I probably could have been clearer,

I was asking for tips or advice on how the process works in getting married in Thailand, any gotchas\holdups to be aware of with processing documents or visiting embassy or Thai gov offices?

sorry to the guys that have had bad relationship experiences and congrats to the ones that all has worked out great.

We all need to live life and learn.
