  1. Pizza4U - 50 meters east of the bus station, and Black Dog Bar - around 800 meters further east. The first location has beer, tasty pizzas and other thai/western food.

The second place has beer, limited food menu and a popular pool table.

Both places has a FB page. Black Dog is the largest bar.

  2. I have used "The Aroma  Clinic" for many years. Located on Chayangkhun rd. in a small detached house, just across the road from the main entrance to/exit from Big C . Female dentist - good English language.

Good beef in Tops. I am also looking for goat, I think there is a goat farm near me (Warin), I will advise if I locate it.

I bought a goat (slaughtered & butchered) from a guy living in a house with a garden in the narrow market street going West from Ubonrak hospital. Several years ago though…………….?

I have lived in Ubon since 1994. I have never heard of the Irish Pub? Where is it? Is it run by an Irishman?

You got to get out more Michael :-)

Ubon Irish Pub is indeed i Warin, next door to TC Boxing Club , a few hundred meters south of the train station at 43/4 Tesabaan 14 road, and run by Stephen & Patty. Guinness, Carlsberg and a few other beers on tap, and several others on bottle. UIP have a FC page for more info!

Looks like you are in tambon Pupha Mok then. That would place you about 10km from ThaiV member Bergen who is well-known to many of us on here. His (or technically his wife's) farmstay, 'Suan Loong Daeng' is well worth a look - you can check it out on Google - particularly as you are into farming. A load of rai there under different crops as well as a sometime bar with good pool table.

Hat Samran is close to where to are Awa Shuen, and a nice spot for picnic.....

If you drive 10km along Hwy 221* from Hwy 24 in the direction of Kantharalak you arrive at Kantharalak's main landmark, the white shrine clos to the middle of Kantharalak town. If you drive 10km on 221 from Hwy 24 in the other direction you pass thru my Thai wife's family village (of Santisuk) and arrive at to our house. I drive that 20km from my house to Kantharalak on 221 at least every other day and have done for 10 years.

You got me beat Brunoelm. Have never seen that Asoke community or a big sign (must be in Thai, but surely not 10km south of 24 on the 221 unless inside Kantharalak town). Thought I knew every inch of that journey and can't picture where it could be. Bergen's wife has family closely connected with the big Asoke community along the Mun river east of Ubon/Warin - fascinating village btw - and he's never mentioned the Kantharalak community to me even though we meet up regularly, including at my place and Kantharalak.

This is not meant to be a 'you don't know what you're talking about' kind of post - I'm genuinely intrigued to know more!! Would probably be a willing customer.

    *  For the benefit of Awa Shuen, that's the main highway between Kantharalak town and Sisaket town

The Asoke community is about half way down the 221 from the 24 to Kantharalak. Turn right at the "gated" entrance to Ban Kratchang Yai, and the community is on your right hand side after a couple hundred meters.

There is more than one Non Samran.

This one is in Kantharalak district in Sisaket. https://goo.gl/maps/R1v5JDsqJuA2

He'll be "close" to me then................:whistling:

I'm along 2248 at Suan Loong Daeng just east of Ban Non Yang in Ubon province.

Btw. internet is probably not a problem. There's been good development during recent years.

You seem a little hard to please.

Have you ever thought of asking one of the above for something a bit more to your liking? Have you ever complained to the above suppliers? One thing I can't stand is when someone comes on here to complains before they have spoken to the owners of the places about which they complain.

The restaurant that you speak about in Surin is Starbeams. They haven't disappeared. Only moved. The Farang Connection was always a bit hit and miss. It has now, sadly, closed down. Shame really as it was an iconic place with on Surin.

I was once at a Sunday gathering in NongKi, Buriram. There is a place that supplies western food there. One of the products available are pies from BuriramPieMan. The Pieman happened to be there. Someone mentioned that there was not enough gravy in the pies. He was told, by many other expats, to stop complaining and buy some gravy granules if he felt the amount of gravy in the pies was not sufficient.. They tried to point out that the pies were in fact full of succulent meat with a good  amount of rich gravy and great pies because of this. It was pointed out to him that in order to get more gravy in the meat would have to be taken out. The man eventually relented and bought some gravy granules. It was a very funny incident to see. We all had a good laugh about it afterwards. And safe to say the Pieman was told to take no notice and NOT to change anything.

Do you need some gravy? I'll send you the guy's number. lol.

I've always had decent food at Starbeams, and yes, its still there!

An excellent coffee/food stop on the 359 is Coffee Please กบินทร์บุรี (it's on google maps) just before the 359 meets the 33 to Sakaew, about 3hrs from Pattaya.

I assume as you are going to Sisaket you know of the million bottle temple and khao phra wihan which really are worth visiting, especially the latter.

Prasat Khao Phra Wiharn temple ruins are not available from the Thai side. You Can visit Khao Phra Wiharn National Park with Pha Moo E Daeng cliff, and watch the temple from a distance, but not cross the border!

"Peppers" has a few quaffable ones (German lagers particularly) in the beer fridge too. Dunno whether "Saloon Coffee and Bar" at the western end of Pitchitrangsan Rd has restocked up to the level of its once-promising drinks menu yet ??!! The beer inspectors should be called in for a report

And The Outside Inn now promotes Budweiser, Leffe, Paulaner, Franziskaner, Corona, Hoegarden, Beer Lao, and a couple of ciders!

Several craft beer places in Ubon already, and more to come, but I'm ok with Singha or Beer Lao. :burp:

Ricco Caf''' and Ubon Tap Taste House are 2 examples of places selling craft beers............

And of course you can have Guinness and Carlsberg on tap at Ubon Irish Pub..............

Same problem all over Thailand. Except in Bangkok where craft beer bars are opening up like crazy. Though a bit pricey.

Not related. People who still don't know how local foods from local restaurants or or street foods are dangerous should use google more.

I use googles every time before eating in a restaurant. Not because I'm afraid of the local food, but because my eyes need help to read the menu. :whistling:

Btw. I've been in Isaan eating local cuisine for more than 13 years.

I can remember it being pretty hot in Pattaya when I stayed there. I couple of degrees is not a lot.

No burning here in the city. Perhaps out in a village somewhere.

Not burning much in the villages either!

I agree with the comments about Loei, which is very nice indeed.

Now, as far as modern life is concerned, with its shopping centers, cinemas, good hospitals and universities, I would recommend Ubon Ratchatani which, for some unknown reason, is far wealthier than other Isaan provinces...just a look at the number of daily flights to and from its airport gives an indication, when most Isaan provinces only need a bus station.

But then again, there are no mountains and forests in this area...

The borderline which Ubon shares with Laos and Cambodia has lots of mountains, national parks, forests, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, dams etc. The mountains are not as high and plentiful as in Loei, or in the north, but there are lots of hills to climb and explore.

Over the course of this week I'm doing an entertainment guide/map for some visiting Chiang Mai hashers. PM me your e-mail address and I'll copy you in!

You should bring your baby out on Ubon Hash. We had Outside Inn's bairn running with us this weekend; actually come to think, she was the only one of 18 who did much running!59898b1e1c0ef_Run105OutsideInn_HuaiWangNongBabyBrooklynBorntoRunbyGhettomaster5aug17.jpg.bf4dda610c52b70bbb6bbc01e61dffd1.jpg

Has anybody tried to find the new office.

It would be good if you somebody could provide a GPS address.

Several of our members live here in Ubon so asking for them.

After reading post 25 by AliasJohn, and if you are familiar with Ubon, you should be able to tell your members the location of the new office!
