Thai immigration officers apprehended seven foreign nationals, including individuals from China, Laos, and Myanmar, for illegally selling clothes at stalls in the Bobae Market in Bangkok. This operation was part of a broader crackdown on illegal activities. The operation was conducted by immigration officers who went undercover as customers in Bobae Market. Acting on a directive from the police chief, the officers, led by Police Colonel Raphiphat Utsaha, coordinated with the local employment office to inspect the market. The primary focus was to target foreign nationals violating the Royal Decree on Managing the Work of Foreigners (2017) and the Immigration Act (1979), among other laws. The action was prompted by public complaints about foreign nationals setting up illegal clothing stalls and essentially acting as business owners in the area. The results of the operation led to the arrest of seven individuals of various nationalities. Those detained include 60 year old Cai Lizu from China, who was charged with working without a permit. From Laos, 34 year old Khao Phalavong, 24 year old Tip Phalavong, 25 year old Bo Keotongta, and 21 year old Emmy, were all charged with working beyond the legal rights allowed, specifically selling goods at stalls. Additionally, 35 year old Thet Win from Myanmar, faced similar charges for working beyond permitted activities. Lastly, 15 year old Thin Phalavong from Laos was charged with working without a permit, said a police spokesperson. “The operation focused on ensuring that foreign nationals comply with local laws and regulations, especially in business activities that require appropriate permits and rights.” The detainees were promptly taken to the Nang Loeng Police Station for further legal proceedings. The operation is a component of an intensified crime suppression initiative occurring from yesterday, November 5 until November 15, reported KhaoSod. Police have emphasised that the crackdown aims to uphold legal standards and protect local business interests by ensuring that all entrepreneurs, regardless of nationality, operate within the bounds of the law, said a police spokesperson. “Public safety and legal compliance are our top priorities, and operations like these are essential to maintain order and fairness in the business sector.” By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-11-06

British and Dutch men arrested in Bangkok for drug trafficking Photo via Matichon Officers from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) arrested a British man and a Dutch man at a condominium in Bangkok yesterday for drug trafficking. Officers from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) arrested a British man and a Dutch man at a condominium in Bangkok yesterday for drug trafficking. They were found in possession of 210 grammes of ecstasy and over 37 grammes of cannabis. The ONCB officers held a press conference today, November 6, to provide details on the arrests of the British and Dutch men, whose identities were not revealed. The arrests followed the discovery of a suspicious parcel delivered to Thailand from the UK on Monday, November 4. Upon investigating the parcel, officials found 210 grammes of MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy) inside. Officers then monitored the recipients until they observed the two foreign nationals collecting it. The two men resided at a condominium in the Sathu Pradit area of Bangkok, where officials conducted a raid on their condo unit on November 5. While no drugs were found in the condo, the suspects admitted to keeping them at a rented house in the Khlong Toei area and another condo in Phra Kanong. During a search of the rented house, officers seized 30 kilogrammes of cannabis, packed in vacuum-sealed bags ready for delivery. They also found documents indicating the suspects intended to send the cannabis to the UK, falsely labelling it as pillows. Approximately 1.4 kilogrammes of cannabis glandular trichomes were discovered at the property. Cannabis glandular trichomes contain cannabinoids primarily found in cannabis flowers and leaves and are highly valued for their psychoactive and medicinal properties. Further searches at the condominium in Phra Kanong revealed an additional 6 kilogrammes of cannabis, also packed in vacuum-sealed bags. ONCB officials reported that British police have seized large amounts of cannabis smuggled from Thailand this year, prompting closer collaboration between Thai and British officials to prevent such trafficking. These trafficking groups reportedly enter Thailand as tourists and obtain cannabis from local dealers to smuggle back to their home countries. In some cases, they carry the cannabis with them while travelling; in others, they ship it internationally via parcels. By Petch Petpailin Photo via Matichon Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-11-06

Fatal attraction: Taiwanese man dies after sex with Thai transwoman Photo by Quin Stevenson via Unsplash A Taiwanese man reportedly died after engaging in sexual activity with a Thai female sex worker who was later found to be a transwoman. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1342775-fatal-attraction-taiwanese-man-dies-after-sex-with-thai-transwoman/ -
A Taiwanese man reportedly died after engaging in sexual activity with a Thai female sex worker who was later found to be a transwoman. Facebook page World Forum shared the tragic story of the 36 year old Taiwanese man, yesterday, November 5. “Top story in Taiwan. A 36 year old man from New Taipei City paid for sex with a Thai woman he met online at TWD$3,000 (3,200 baht) per hour. During the sexual activity, the Taiwanese man’s heart rate increased rapidly due to excitement. He then fainted and later died in hospital. Local police searched for the Thai woman and discovered that she was a transwoman named Wu. The transwoman’s passport, however, clearly stated she was a Mr. Despite the serious nature of the incident, many Thai netizens flooded the comment section with humour, suggesting that the Taiwanese man might have been shocked upon realising that the sex worker was a transwoman. Others condemned those making light of the situation, stating that it was an insult to both the deceased and the transwoman. They urged the page to provide more details about the cause of death and believed that it was related to his health issues rather than the sex worker’s gender. Some users pointed out that the Thai transwoman was working as a sex worker in the country, even though it was illegal under local laws. This is not the first report involving Thai nationals working illegally as sex workers in Taiwan. In June of this year, Taiwanese police officers arrested eight Thai women and a Thai transwoman at a hotel in the Zhongshan district of Taipei City for operating an illegal prostitution ring. In October 2023, another Thai female sex worker was arrested in Taiwan. Local police came across her online profile and sex service advertisement, so they posed as customers and tricked her into meeting at a hotel where she was subsequently arrested. In a heart-wrenching incident, a 17-year-old student, Thanakorn, collapsed and died during a physical education class at his school in Phichit's Mueang district. The student was partaking in an 800-metre endurance run when he fell after only 100 metres, suffering from chest tightness before losing consciousness. His demise has left his family, peers, and school staff in shock. Amidst the mourning, Thanakorn's parents, Seree and Sukanya, together with relatives and teachers, held a spiritual ceremony led by a monk from Wat Samkha, transferring his spirit from the field to the temple where funeral rites will take place. Sukanya mourned her only son's loss and challenged the school's suggestion of a heart condition related to his early childhood Kawasaki disease. Though successfully treated, questions loom over the true cause of his death. Seree shared a poignant last memory of their son expressing reluctance about attending the class due to the exhausting run. Despite this, he participated, raising concerns about the reported circumstances. School director Nikoon Thongnasarn conveyed deep regret and pledged support to the family, including financial assistance and attending funeral rites. Dr Wisit Apisitwittaya, Phichit’s health officer, echoed condolences and aided the family financially. An autopsy is ongoing at Phuttha Hospital, with tissue samples under scrutiny to determine the precise cause. The investigation seeks to provide answers and closure to Thanakorn's family amidst this unexpected tragedy. File photo for reference only -- 2024-11-05

A security sweep at Phuket International Airport led to the arrest of a taxi driver after officers discovered knives and meth pills in his vehicle. This incident, which occurred yesterday, November 4th, highlights the vigilance of airport security and law enforcement in preventing illegal activities. During a routine checkpoint from 10 am to midday, the Sakhu Police, working alongside the airport security team, stopped a sedan with Songkhla plates. Pet dog turned blind after vet visit in Central Thailand Photo courtesy of banmuang A 57 year old Thai man filed a formal complaint with the president of the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation for Children and Women in Pathum Thani. He is seeking justice for his pet dog, which was blinded following a trim at a veterinary clinic on the Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road. A 57 year old Thai man filed a formal complaint with the president of the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation for Children and Women in Pathum Thani. He is seeking justice for his pet dog, which was blinded following a trim at a veterinary clinic on the Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road. Athit Ritsitthangkun reported the incident to Paveena Hongsakul yesterday, November 4 at 5pm, asking for justice for his beloved pet dog named Nong Yak Dai, a female Shih Tzu of over 10 years old. On August 23, Athit took Nong Yak Dai to the vet at a clinic on the Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road for a bath and a trim. After taking the dog home, he found that the pet lost vision in both eyes and had walked into objects. “When I contacted the clinic and looked at the CCTV footage, I found that on the day of the incident, after the clinic staff took the dog to bathe and trim its fur, they did not follow the proper protocol, not wearing a neck and body strap, causing the dog to fall off the grooming table. They tried to seize my dog with their hands, but Nong Yak Dai hit the floor before being locked in the cage for almost one hour. “While watching the CCTV footage, two other staff went with me as witnesses, and the clinic called the staff who bathed and groomed the dog that day to ask about the incident. The staff admitted that they let the dog fall by negligence. I asked for someone to take responsibility, and the hospital said that they would nurse the dog back to health.” Athit stated that when he took Nong Yak Dai to the hospital, the dog was very scared, so he asked the hospital to arrange for the dog to be treated somewhere else. The hospital sent the pet dog to their branch on Rama 9 Road where she stayed for treatment for almost 10 days. Deteriorating health “I visited her and saw that my dog’s condition was getting worse every day. When she finally came back home, her condition was even worse. She was peeing and pooping in the wrong places, her back was bent, her legs were damaged, and she couldn’t walk normally. She couldn’t eat by herself and had to be fed. I think my dog was in shock because while she was in the hospital, she was kept in a small cage with many large dogs barking at her all the time.” According to Athit, the hospital did not provide any formal written guarantee that they would take care of the dog until she made a full recovery. Athit filed a record with the Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station as evidence. He believes that the owner of the vet clinic does not know about the incident, otherwise, the appropriate action would have been taken, reported Banmuang. Police Colonel Prinya Thongma, Superintendent of Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station, was put in charge of Athit’s case. The Paveena Foundation can be contacted at 1134 and 098 478 8991. The Paveena Foundation will follow up on the progress. By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of banmuang Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-11-05

An anti-social neighbour, living in a village in Mueang Chiang Rai district, Chiang Rai province, has been harassing residents for nearly three years with loud noises, threats, and littering. The main victim, a young nurse, has lodged several complaints with local police, yet little progress has been made until recently. Manop Senakun, the Provincial Police Commander of Chiang Rai, directed Sopon Muangfuang, the Superintendent of Mueang Chiang Rai Police Station, to take action. Together with medical officers from Chiang Rai Provincial Public Health Office and Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital, they investigated the situation. The suspect, known only as 41 year old Kai (pseudonym), was found in a confused state, raising concerns about potential substance abuse. Police officers took him for a psychiatric evaluation, intending to find a treatment plan to help him reintegrate into society. The nurse expressed her distress over the ongoing harassment, stating that her neighbour, Kai, had been throwing rubbish into her property and damaging her door for an extended period. Kai has a history of legal issues, having been arrested for methamphetamine possession in 2019 and for consumption this year. He is currently under probation for these charges. Additionally, there are ongoing investigations into various complaints about his threatening behaviour and public disturbances. The police’s recent action marks a significant step in addressing the residents’ concerns and aims to provide a resolution to the ongoing nuisance. Residents expressed relief over the intervention, hoping it would bring an end to the constant harassment and allow them to live peacefully once more. The local police are continuing to gather evidence and testimonies to strengthen their case against Kai, reported KhaoSod. A viral video showing two foreigners fighting each other on a road along Patong Beach in Phuket sparked criticism of weaknesses in Thai laws. A Thai man shared the video of the altercation on his TikTok account, @aifkiatprasert, yesterday, November 5. He later shared it with the news Facebook page, Phuket Times, before deleting it from his account. The page posted the video with a caption that read… “Foreigners fighting each other! Fights are available almost every night at Patong Beach boxing stadium.” In the 16-second video, two foreign men can be seen brawling while one of them remains seated on a motorcycle. Their altercation caused a nearby parked motorcycle to be overturned. The report did not disclose details about the motive or specific circumstances of the fight. The video sparked criticism from Thai netizens, aimed not only at the foreign men but also at Thai laws. “This happened because Thai laws are so weak. Foreigners aren’t afraid. They just need to offer a gift basket or money to the police, and then both eyes and mouths are shut.” “They would never do this in other countries. They’d be deported, blacklisted, or jailed. But everything is fine in Thailand. We spoil foreigners until they stop respecting locals.” “Everything happens in Patong.” “Everyone sees this, but the police don’t.” Officers have not yet provided clarification about the incident to the public, and the two foreigners may have already resolved their conflict. In a worrying trend that has seen cross-border escapades take a dangerous turn, young Malaysians have been sneaking illegally into Thailand's Sungai Kolok district for a night out. According to Mohd Yusoff Maman, the police chief of Malaysia's Kelantan state, these thrill-seekers leave their vehicles behind at Rantau Panjang before crossing the Kolok River, enticed by the bustling nightlife awaiting them. The area comes alive primarily on weekends, with Malaysian visitors frequenting nightclubs and entertainment spots. This past Friday, however, the allure turned costly for six young Malaysians, including a popular singer, arrested at a Sungai Kolok hotel for possession of over 6,000 methamphetamine tablets. Despite their denials of dealing drugs, tests confirmed they had consumed the illicit substance. The incident has garnered significant public attention, heightened by the involvement of Eda Ezrin, a Malay choral sensation known for her performances in dikir barat, a beloved cultural art form in Malaysia and Singapore. This case has not only spotlighted the cross-border allure but also the growing drug concerns tied to these nocturnal adventures. In response to these developments, the Kelantan police chief proposed the construction of a wall along the Kolok riverbank. This structure aims to deter unauthorised crossings while potentially doubling as a flood barrier, spotlighting the dual challenges of cross-border crime and environmental resilience facing the region. As the court proceedings loom, this unfolding story signals a call to action for more robust border control and awareness campaigns, aiming to curb the rising tide of nocturnal escapades that could have far-reaching consequences. The Wildlife Conservation and Protection Committee has announced a significant change by reclassifying monitor lizards, Germain’s swiftlets, and Black-nest swiftlets as protected species. This allows them to be raised and harvested commercially, a move that could impact both conservation efforts and local economies. The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has now added the monitor lizard to a list of 62 protected species that can be bred for commercial purposes. Known for its hide's durability and delicate patterns, the monitor lizard's skin is highly valued in the leather industry. Following the reclassification, individuals interested in raising these species must seek permission from the department. Kasetsart University provides guidance, drawing from its research on the cultivation and marketing of monitor lizards, commonly found in watercourses. The department is also crafting a report on optimal locations for farming these species, anticipating its release within six months. Meanwhile, monitor lizard populations have surged in areas like Bangkok's Lumpini Park, despite their protected status prohibiting hunting for food, traditional medicine, and leather. Possession of protected wildlife remains illegal, carrying severe penalties of up to ten years' imprisonment or fines reaching one million baht. The reclassification aims to balance protection with economic incentives by allowing regulated commercial use. File photo for reference only -- 2024-11-05

A well-known beef restaurant has taken to social media to locate a customer who accidentally transferred over 200,000 baht instead of the actual bill amount of 2,020.91 baht. The incident occurred on Sunday, November 3 at the Ratchaphruek branch of the restaurant, Neua Luan Luan. The restaurant shared a Facebook post, reaching out to the customer. “We are seeking the customer who dined with us yesterday (November 3) at Neua Luan Luan, Ratchaphruek branch, at 7.50pm. The customer transferred an excess amount of 2xx,xxx baht. If you see this post, please contact us via inbox or call 095-527-8298. Thank you.” The actual bill was 2,020.91 baht (US$60), but the customer mistakenly transferred 202,091 baht (US$6,010), likely due to a decimal point error. The restaurant explained that the customer appeared to be elderly and had not yet reached out to rectify the mistake. In response to inquiries about whether the customer needed to scan their face for such a large transfer, the restaurant clarified the question. “Typically, a face scan is required. There could be several factors at play, such as being accustomed to transferring large sums due to business dealings, or perhaps the customer forgot to double-check. “A face scan would have served as a reminder of the significant amount being transferred. We are currently waiting and have asked the bank to contact the sender while hoping the customer reaches out.” The post has garnered considerable attention, with many people sharing it to help locate the customer. Some netizens humorously speculated about the situation, suggesting that the individual might not have noticed the error due to their wealth, reported Sanook. Comments included jokes like, “Maybe they haven’t realised yet; such a large amount wouldn’t even make a dent in their account, haha,” and “I’ve tried transferring that much, but my account balance couldn’t handle it.” Others praised the restaurant’s honesty and kindness, expressing admiration for its integrity. Comments such as, “What a delightful restaurant, I will certainly support them again,” and “Is the customer buying the branch? Maybe they left a deposit, haha,” were common among the community’s reactions. By Bright Choomanee Picture couretesy of Sanook Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-11-05
