A Thai man accused a police officer in Samut Prakan province, near Bangkok, of physically assaulting him, even though he did not violate any laws and only honked his truck horn to greet a passing friend. The Thai truck driver shared a video on Facebook, where he and his girlfriend were seen arguing with a traffic police officer from the Bang Kaew Police Station. The video was accompanied by a caption that read: “Do police have the right to do this? Are you misusing your authority?” The truck driver explained in the post that his friend had driven past him on the road, and he had honked his horn to greet him. In response to this greeting, he honked his horn back. Unexpectedly, the traffic police officer asked him to pull over for an investigation and accused him of modifying his horn to make it louder than usual. The driver insisted to the officer that he had not modified the horn at all, but the officer suddenly hit him on the back. In the video, the couple and the police officer can be heard in the following conversation: Truck driver: “Do you have the right to do what you just did to me? Why did you hit me on the back?” Driver’s girlfriend: “He is a citizen, and you are a police officer. Should you be doing this to people?” Police officer: “Is it wrong? Why are you honking the horn like that?” Truck driver: “My friend greeted me, and I just responded.” Don’t hit, Just touch The truck driver suspected that the police officer was annoyed by the car horn and had tried to make a false accusation against him. He urged the officer to resolve the issue at the police station but the officer refused and left the scene. Bang Kaew Police Station Superintendent Adirek Thonggamkaew told Channel 7 that the issue had been settled on the day of the incident. Adirek added that the incident took place near the Khlong Khut Intersection on Tuesday, August 20. The police officer and the truck driver had reached an agreement in front of him on that day. The officer insisted that he had not hit the driver on the back but merely touched him. He also claimed that he had no intention of making a false accusation against the driver. He explained that he was talking on the walkie-talkie at the time and could not hear the horn clearly to determine whether it was modified or not. He then asked the driver to stop for a check. The truck driver was later seen deleting the video from his social media account. No legal charges were issued against any party, Adirek stated. However, the truck driver’s actions may have violated the law, according to Section 14 of the Land Transport Act: motorists must use a horn only when necessary and should not make a long or repeated honk. Violating this rule can result in a fine of 500 baht. By Petch Petpailin Photo by Ian Fuller via Flickr Source: The Thaiger 2024-08-23 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe

Small Plane Crashes in Chachoengsao: Pilot and Aircraft Scrutinised A small aircraft crash in Bang Pakong, Chachoengsao Province, has drawn significant attention following revelations by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Anutin Chanweerakul. At a briefing on site today, which took place at 11.05 a.m., Mr. Anutin provided updates on the situation and outlined the measures being taken to uncover the cause of the tragic incident. The plane, which was flying from Trat Province to Suvarnabhumi Airport at an altitude of 5,000 feet, was piloted by an experienced instructor—a detail that raises questions about the crash's cause. Initial investigations are focused on whether the aircraft suffered mechanical failure, such as engine issues or structural disintegration of the wing or rudder. Notably, there were no signs of the plane gliding to a landing; rather, it appeared to have fallen abruptly. Adding a layer of complexity, a substance discovered in the pilot's bag will be analysed by medical experts to determine if it played any role in the accident. Meanwhile, the responsible agencies are delving deeper into the technical aspects, to ascertain whether the crash was caused by faulty equipment despite the aircraft being compliant with rigorous maintenance standards. Mr. Anutin assured that aviation regulations are stringent and meticulously followed: spare parts are replaced strictly according to the mandated flight hours. Addressing concerns about the impact on tourism, he stated that while accidents are always a risk, adherence to regulations is paramount to safety and public confidence. The extensive investigation includes collaborating with international experts, given the global use of this airplane model. An in-depth simulation based on the collected wreckage will attempt to recreate the crash circumstances for a clearer understanding. Mr. Anutin's day involved not only a helicopter flight to the crash site but a thorough on-ground inspection, including a visit to the excavation area where heavy machinery is currently unearthing parts of the aircraft. His detailed review concluded with a media address, ensuring transparency and ongoing public communication. As the investigation progresses, further updates are expected to shed light on the factors leading to this unfortunate event, while authorities continue to reassure the public and aviation stakeholders of their commitment to safety and compliance. The incident quickly spread on social media, captivating netizens worldwide. Jairak Pitakchip, one of the rescuers, posted a photo on August 22, taken during initial excavation efforts to find human remains and aircraft parts. The crash, which occurred the previous night, scattered debris and body parts across the area. The photo displayed a rescue worker with an excavator, but what drew widespread attention was the eerie, face-like shadow captured in the image. Jairak's caption read, “The moment I saw it, my heart skipped a beat,” alongside hashtags to update followers on the ongoing search. Social media reactions were swift, with many expressing shock and marvel at the spectral image. Comments ranged from amazement to heartfelt support for the rescue team's efforts. For over 11 hours, the rescue team has been tirelessly working under harrowing conditions. The sight of the ghostly image added an unsettling layer to their already difficult mission. Compounded by the threat of landslides, which forced a switch in excavators, their task became even more challenging. The tragic crash claimed nine lives, including five Chinese nationals and four Thais. The victims included a 12-year-old girl and two flight attendants, adding a poignant dimension to the recovery efforts. As the search operation continues, the haunting image of the shadow serves as a stark reminder of the tragic loss and the challenges faced by those on the front lines. Plane to see: Suspicions surround Chachoengsao plane crash Details surrounding the small plane crash in Chachoengsao have begun to emerge, revealing several suspicious factors. It was reported that the weather was fair on the day of the incident, with no rain clouds and the captain was very experienced. It took some 11 hours for rescue teams to search for the bodies of all those onboard a small plane which crashed in the area of Village No. 6, Khao Din subdistrict, Bang Pakong district, Chachoengsao province, ending at 2am today, August 23. The excavated aeroplane parts have been collected at Khao Din Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, awaiting special officials to come and inspect the remains. The page, The Secret Records of the Pilot, a platform that collects aviation news and aviation knowledge, has come out to comment on the incident, noting that this plane crash was strange. Below are seven points that were noted: 1. The weather on the day The weather at the time the plane took off was fair, with almost no clouds and no rain. Therefore, the weather should not have been a factor in the accident. 2. The altitude of the flight The plane had flown about 10 to 20 miles from Suvarnabhumi Airport, with the heading indicator at 100, which is normal for small planes. The altitude was not high because the control tower had allowed the plane to fly at no more than 3,000 to 5,000 feet at the start of the journey. 3. Airplane models and basic characteristics The Cessna Grand Caravan is a small, multi-purpose, propeller-powered passenger aircraft that seats 12 people (including 2 pilots). The average travel speed is 120 to 150 nautical miles per hour, approximately 220 to 300 kilometres per hour. There is no legal requirement for this type of aeroplane to have a flight recorder (black box). 4. The automatic distress signal was dysfunctional This type of aeroplane should have an ELT (Emergency Location Transmitter) device, which is a location identification device. If the plane crashes, this device will automatically send a distress signal to various frequencies of the aviation radio and identify the flight location for rescue units to assist. However, the SOS signal was not received at the time of the accident. 5. The captain was an experienced flight instructor The captain was an experienced flight instructor and was also the owner of the aeroplane. There is no doubt about his flying skills. The co-pilot is also known to be talented and highly knowledgeable. 6. The nature of the plane’s fall The nature of the plane’s fall into the ground more than 10 meters deep means that the plane almost fell at a 90-degree angle for such depth. From the audio clip that reporters requested from the CCTV footage from nearby villagers, the sound of the engine still running can be heard. That means that the engine still had power before falling headlong into the ground, contrary to flight principles as the Grand Caravan winged plane is designed to have high stability. Even when the engine is off, the plane can still glide for quite a distance. Therefore, a headlong fall is very unlikely. 7. Landing decision If the engine of the plane fails, the plane can still adjust the blade angle to reduce drag. Moreover, the pilots are trained in the procedures that they have to follow in the case that the engine breaks down. The pilot must choose a landing location which must not be a swampy area or muddy ground. There were other safer places to land, reported KhaoSod. The list of the deceased has been updated: The five Chinese nationals were 12 year old Zhang Jingjing, 13 year old Yin Hang, 43 year old Zhang Jing, 42 year old Tang Yu, and 45 year old Yin Jinfeng. The two Thai flight attendants were 35 year old Napak Jeerasiri and 26 year old Siriyupa Arunathit. The two pilots on the ill-fated flight were 61 year old Anucha Dejapirakchon and 30 year old Pornsak Totap, reported The Nation. A Thai man unbelievably survived after being shot three times by his adversary in a village within the Isaan province of Buriram, Thailand. This was during an ongoing feud that has lasted seven years, after the supposed victim previously claimed he was unkillable. 40-year-old Somchai ran to the Satuek Police Station seeking justice, saying that his enemy, Thak, who is 44, shot him in the rear on August 19. However, without tangible evidence to link Thak to the crime, the police were initially unable to move forward with the case. The police later invited Thak for a discussion at the station, and he confessed to the shooting. He also willingly showed the officers where he had stashed the weapon in his home. Thak mentioned that he was fishing when Somchai came and began taunting him. Somchai purportedly blamed him for fish theft from a local property owner and taunted him into shooting if he had the courage. According to Thak, Somchai boldly declared that he was impervious to bullets. On his part, Thak alleges that upon seeing Somchai approach him as if to engage in a fight, he took out his gun and shot Somchai, who was then able to escape from the scene. Thak is astounded and convinced of Somchai's immortality, based on the fact that the bullets did not penetrate, instead resulting in minor grazes. In a discussion with Channel 7, Somchai said the tension between him and Thak had been present for more than seven years. Considering his minor injuries, he claimed luck was on his side, denying ever bragging about being immortal. Somchai noted that his lucky charm, a sacred wild boar tusk amulet he had discovered over ten years ago in the southern province of Chumphon, and which he'd been wearing ever since, had spared him from serious harm. Due to this incident, Thak will face legal repercussions for his attempt to disprove Somchai's alleged immortality. He is being charged with attempted murder, a crime which carries half the penalty for intentional murder. Therefore, he faces the death penalty, lifetime imprisonment, or a 15- 20 years imprisonment sentence under Section 288 of the Criminal Code. Thailand's Tourism Surge Threatened by Zero-Dollar Chinese Tours File photo for reference only Thailand's tourism industry, currently experiencing rapid growth due to a new visa-free policy, is catering to a large influx of international visitors. Thailand's tourism industry, currently experiencing rapid growth due to a new visa-free policy, is catering to a large influx of international visitors. However, even though Chinese tourists make up the majority, issues are emerging regarding Chinese zero-dollar tours. These tours are potentially decreasing Thailand's potential revenue. From the start of the year to August 18, Thailand has received 22,474,172 international tourists who have contributed 1.05 trillion baht to the nation's economy. Major contributors were Chinese tourists, who accounted for 4,555,262 arrivals. They were followed by travellers from Malaysia, India, South Korea, and Russia. However, despite these large numbers, there are concerns that the local businesses may not benefit. The main concern is the comeback of the so-called zero-dollar tours. Overseas tour operators use loopholes in Thai laws to outperform the market. They utilize Thai nominees to offer services at a lower fee, often making a loss to overtake Thai competitors. Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports, Sermsak Pongpanich, spoke about the government's commitment to resolving this issue. He advised Thai people to watch out for and report incidents of foreigners registering businesses they aren't legally permitted to run through Thai nominees. He added that this alertness is important to keep tourists' money within Thailand and to profit Thai traders. Moreover, Pongpanich mentioned continuous talks with the Chinese government to tackle the issue. He conveyed that both countries are eager to avoid issues which could detrimentally affect their mutual relationship. Meanwhile, local tourism seems hopeful according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). It anticipates reaching a target of 200 million domestic trips by 2024, expecting to add 1.08 trillion baht to the economy. Several initiatives like the FLASH DEAL campaign and the Super Deal, in collaboration with airlines, are anticipated to escalate this figure to 210 million trips and 1.2 trillion baht in revenue. Somrudi Jitjong, TAT’s Deputy Governor for Domestic Marketing, said domestic tourism is set to exceed the levels seen in 2019. He added that their goal is to boost tourist numbers, encourage more spending, and reach the government's high set targets. A Pheu Thai MP is set to submit an urgent motion in the House of Representatives, calling for an investigation into a Constitutional Court judge’s controversial comments regarding a dissolved political party. The judge, Udom Sittiwirattham, already under scrutiny for his role in dissolving the Move Forward Party (MFP), has now sparked outrage with a flippant remark about the People’s Party. During a recent seminar on the dissolution of the MFP, Judge Udom reportedly said, “Frankly speaking, they should thank me for dissolving the party. I helped them collect as much as 20 million baht in donations.” The MFP was disbanded after being found guilty of attempting to destabilise the monarchy, and its 11 executive committee members were barred from elections for a decade. Pheu Thai party-list MP Adisorn Piengkes is not taking the judge’s comment lightly. “This is a major issue, not because of the dissolution of the party, but because of the ethical conduct of a judge.” Adisorn expressed that the remark showed contempt for the party, a sentiment unbecoming of someone in Udom’s position. Adisorn emphasised that judges, much like MPs, senators, and ministers, are bound by strict ethical standards. Meanwhile, former election commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn pointed out that the judge’s comment could serve as grounds for a petition with the National Anti-Corruption Commission under Section 234 of the Constitution. Somchai highlighted that the judge’s behaviour might violate the ethical code, specifically Item 17, which mandates that judges must avoid actions that could harm their honour, and Item 23, which requires judges to treat others with dignity and impartiality. However, not everyone is up in arms. Former Democrat MP Nipit Intarasombut has come to the judge’s defence, arguing that Udom was merely making a joke and had no intention of insulting the People’s Party. Whether or not this defence will hold remains to be seen, but the controversy is far from over, reported Thai PBS World. A picture of a naked foreign man proudly showing off the family jewels inside a cannabis shop in the Patong neighbourhood of Phuket went viral on Thai social media. The reason for his nakedness is still under investigation. The Phuket Times shared the picture of the naked foreigner yesterday, August 21, with a caption that read, “Free visa! Drunk foreign man in Patong stripped naked and proudly showed off his private parts!” The news page reported that the incident occurred at a cannabis shop in the Patong area of Phuket on Tuesday, August 20. The nationality of the foreign man was not disclosed. In the picture, the naked foreigner was seen standing with his arms extended towards the large window of a blue cannabis shop. Some cannabis plants were outside the store. There were no other customers in the area. The post garnered over 3,200 reactions from netizens, many of whom condemned the foreigner for his inappropriate behaviour and criticised government officials for offering free visas, which they believed allowed poor-quality tourists into the country. “Free visas are no good. Quality tourists don’t come. It’s not worth it. They come and waste our water supply and resources. It’s time to cancel free visas and focus on quality tourists.” “Phuket, the real entertainment venue.” “Hmmm… City of freedom?” “He loves freedom.” “Don’t think too much. It makes Phuket lively!” “It’s not about free visas, it’s about cannabis.” “I often see foreigners walking in shopping malls in bikinis.” Some netizens mentioned a similar incident that occurred last week in the southern province of Surat Thani. In that case, a foreign man was seen taking off his clothes and approaching a cow. The animal was frightened and gored the man, causing him severe injuries. Locals suspected that the man intended to engage in sexual activity with the cow, but this was not confirmed. The foreign man refused treatment at a hospital and immediately rushed home without attending a police questioning. A Thai father, in an act of rage, intentionally rammed his car into his son-in-law who was found to be assaulting his daughter. Unfortunately, during the incident, a police officer and a bystander who tried to intervene in the domestic dispute were also hurt. Local police from Sriracha Station, alongside rescuers from the Sawang Prateep Foundation, were called to a house in Chon Buri's Sriracha district. There, they found a violent argument taking place between a man named Siraphop, 32, and his wife Alissara, 26. Police managed to arrest Siraphop who had initially fled the scene but later returned to check on his wife. Alissara, injured and sitting outside her house had suffered wounds on her body, with the worst ones on her head, mouth, and nose. As help was being provided to Alissara, her father, Supoj, 57, came on the scene. He recklessly drove his yellow sedan into the group of police officers and rescuers attending to Siraphop, causing them to scatter. A police officer and a local resident who were present to help suffered leg injuries, and the resident's motorcycle was damaged. Supoj then jumped out of his car and started repeatedly attacking Siraphop until the police intervened. He claimed he had targeted his son-in-law due to the continued abuse of his daughter, but Siraphop had managed to dodge and was unhurt. Later, Alissara informed Channel 7 that her husband Siraphop often abused her, and a similar incident had happened that day. Siraphop, disturbed by the cries of their baby, became angry and flung the baby onto the bed. This action ignited a dispute that later turned physical. She ran outside for help when she collapsed. Siraphop threw a hard object at her head, causing severe injury. It was during this time that Alissara called her father who then arrived at the scene and rammed his car. Supoj and his son-in-law Siraphop were apprehended and taken to the police station for legal matters. Supoj showed willingness to pay compensation for the injuries he caused. Doctor Faces Charges for Attacking, Forcing Teenage Boy to Undress in Bangkok File photo for reference only In Lak Si district, Bangkok, a doctor and three others, have been officially charged for attacking and coercing a 14-year-old boy to undress. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1336221-doctor-faces-charges-for-attacking-forcing-teenage-boy-to-undress-in-bangkok/ -
In Lak Si district, Bangkok, a doctor and three others, have been officially charged for attacking and coercing a 14-year-old boy to undress. The evidence will be examined on December 9, meanwhile, the accused have been temporarily freed. The Special Prosecutor for Criminal Cases 4 has issued a legal suit against Dr. Weerayuth Naenna, his namesake, and two others, presenting them in court as the primary four defendants. They have been accused of various crimes, involving extortion, assault, bullying, performing indecent acts on a minor under the age of 15, harassment, and inflicting physical or psychological harm on a child. The incident allegedly involved assaulting the teenage boy and forcing him to undress and walk outside the Mongkutwattana Hospital. This occurred late at night on May 13. According to the lawsuit, the four defendants intimidated the boy to pay a 5,000 baht penalty for smoking on the hospital property. They threatened to seize his mobile phone if the fine was not paid, creating a fear of losing his possession. The boy's phone was confiscated against his will when he couldn't pay the fine. Dr. Weerayuth, identified as the primary defendant, is alleged to have slapped the boy multiple times and ejected him from Mongkutwattana Hospital's Building 3. Leaving the building towards the emergency room, Weerayuth allegedly slapped the boy again, prompting his tears and apologies. Weerayuth continued his assault, even when the boy was kneeling and apologising outside the emergency room, resulting in scratches and bruises. Furthermore, Weerayuth reportedly forced the boy to strip completely, reducing him to a helpless state. The boy complied and was then made to walk naked along a road in Bangkok. The prosecution claims these actions eroded the boy’s dignity, constituting harassment, causing him considerable distress and humiliation. The prosecution also appealed for Dr. Weerayuth’s sentence to be linked to a previously suspended sentence from another criminal case. During the investigation, all four defendants countered the charges. However, Dr. Weerayuth confessed to hitting the boy and making him undress, arguing that it was a disciplinary action. The court detailed the charges to the defendants who all pleaded not guilty. An evidence review is arranged for December 9 at 9 am. After being charged, the four defendants requested, and were granted, temporary freedom. Dr. Weerayuth insisted his actions were deliberate and intended to teach the boy a lesson. The police have interviewed the 14-year-old boy in relation to the charges against Dr. Weerayuth. The doctor insisted on verifying the boy’s age, believing him to be older than 15, and expressed that he was opposed to any kind of settlement. A gang of teenagers brutally attacked a 16-year-old girl on the streets of Nonthaburi, claiming their actions were a form of punishment. The incident, which was filmed and extensively circulated on social media platforms, is currently under investigation by the police. The victim, accompanied by her guardians and Kan Jompalang, visited the Nonthaburi Rattanathibet Police Station to report the matter and expedite legal action against the perpetrators. The girl was assaulted by her peers, who subjected her to punches, kicks, and slaps until she pleaded for them to stop. The attack took place on Tuesday, August 20, outside the culprits' residence in Soi Prachachuen Nonthaburi 5, Bang Khen, Nonthaburi. Following the assault, the victim's guardians took her to a Pathum Thani hospital for medical checks and later filed a report against the attackers. Kan Jompalang reported that he was contacted by the victim's family for assistance with the case. He characterized the video of the attack as the brutal assault of an innocent girl by her classmates in front of an encouraging audience. After the assault, the attackers threatened the girl with more violence if she reported their actions. In response to the threat, Police are taking measures to ensure the victim’s safety. In addition, the Rattanathibet Police Station and other authorities have been enlisted to guarantee swift justice. Colonel Pisut of the Rattanathibet Police Station confirmed receipt of the complaint and has since interviewed the victim's mother. In view of the victim being a minor, her statement will have to be recorded in the presence of professionals. Her interview is scheduled for September 12, with attempts being made to expedite the process. Meanwhile, her medical report is expected to substantiate the charges against the attackers. The Nonthaburi Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office plans to work with the Pathum Thani department to offer psychological support to the victim. There are fears the assault could culminate in depression, thus the victim's mental health requires careful attention. A 60-year-old resident of Chachoengsao province in Thailand had to construct a new entrance to his house to steer clear of a troublesome neighbor, reputedly menacing him with a gun. Thitiwat, the victim, voiced his concerns to Athiwat Sirikangwalwong, the creator of the Dare to Step Forward Facebook page about the intimidation he was experiencing from his neighbor, a local teacher, on August 18. CCTV clips authenticated the aggressive actions of the neighbor, which included weapon use. News correspondents attempted to interview Thitiwat at his home the following day, but found him absent, as he was accompanying his mother to the hospital for physiotherapy. His neighbor's vehicle was spotted outside the estate, but nobody answered the door to the news team's knocks. Local residents claimed no detailed knowledge of the interpersonal tension, but did observe that Thitiwat had positioned traffic cones outside his property, which initiated conflicts. They described him as a gentleman who occasionally enjoyed karaoke and a few drinks, showing no signs of being troublesome. On his return, Thitiwat explained that he positioned the cones to highlight a broken manhole cover near his house that produced a loud sound every time cars drove over it, disturbing his sick mother. “I wasn’t restricting anyone from parking, but my neighbor thought I was impeding the area. He disregarded the cones, but I held back from confronting him. I did not want any trouble," revealed the man. To underline his point, Thitiwat showed the reporters the problematic manhole cover, indirectly illustrating the loud noise it created when trespassed. He admitted to commissioning a contractor to make a side entrance to his residence, aiming to minimize contact with his disruptive neighbor. Despite Thitiwat's attempts to avoid any unpleasantness, his neighbor still sought to agitate him. “He tried agitating me again this morning. I was sitting next to the new gate, but chose to ignore him," Thitiwat added. File photo for reference only -- 2024-08-22 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe

A Thai man attacked an escort after she refused to extend her working hours. The argument escalated into violence. The story broke on a Facebook page named อีซ้อขยี้ข่าว3 which posted details and pictures of the injured woman. The disagreement started when the man asked the escort to prolong her work time, but she wanted to leave. The refusal annoyed the man who then became violent. In a post, it was stated that "He turned violent because she wouldn't stay longer, and when she tried to leave, he physically attacked her." Photos posted online showed the woman with a swollen eye and bruises on her face, arms, and body, while another image showed the man who allegedly committed the assault. The woman has since reported the incident to the police. An online video revealed the aftermath of the assault where the man continued to verbally abuse the woman and insult her parents. Furthermore, the man goaded the woman to report him to the police, stating that he could pay a 500 baht fine for the assault. As the situation got worse, another man in the room tried to defuse the situation and helped the injured woman out of the room before the recording ended. The post caught wide attention online, with many people criticizing the man's actions and his apparent ignorance of the law. Numerous individuals highlighted that the penalty for such an assault goes beyond a 500 baht fine and could lead to serious charges and possible jail time. One Facebook user, who seemed to know the victim, shed more light on the incident saying "He was drunk and made offensive remarks about her parents. When she retaliated by asking how he'd feel if she insulted his parents, things got out of hand as shown in the clip. Regardless of his wealth, implied by his casual reference to a 500 baht fine, no one would throw insults at a client's parents unprovoked." Online users expressed anger over the man's actions, demanding stricter law enforcement against such instances of violence.
