54-year-old drummer, Natthawut Sukkham, abruptly fainted during a live music concert, startling his bandmates who hurried to his assistance. When Natthawut recounted the episode, he considered health problems and possibly even paranormal factors as explanations for his unexpected collapse. On July 17th, in the evening, Natthawut was performing with his band at the Nakharach Khu music camp in Khon Kaen when the incident took place. According to his description, he felt a sensation similar to a kick and mounting pressure in his skull before he passed out. After approximately a minute, he regained consciousness due to his friends' appeals. Natthawut stated, "I felt an intense pain in my forehead and nose from falling face-down, causing some bleeding. I took rest until I felt better and did not require a hospital visit as I felt normal the next day." The head of the camp, after observing the incident online, consulted a doctor who prescribed blood-thinners for Natthawut. In retrospect, Natthawut suspects his fall may have resulted from lack of sleep, a common lifestyle factor for musicians, or possibly supernatural forces. He also mentioned he only consumes alcohol during performances and doesn't smoke. Earlier the same day, the music camp held a Buddhist holy ceremony. Natthawut reported a weighty sensation in his head while the monks were chanting but felt completely fine afterward, only to faint during the evening's concert. At first, his friends thought he had fatally collapsed due to his absence of response and his eyes rolling back, but he soon regathered consciousness. The music camp has witnessed multiple bands visit briefly before leaving, but Natthawut and his band have been constant fixtures. Before his fall, Natthawut recalls two dreams: an elderly woman smiling at him from the foot of his bed on July 13, and receiving a gold necklace and bracelet from someone on July 15. Earlier on the day of his collapse, a bandmate's brother revealed that his sibling had died in the building now used as the music camp. However, it's uncertain whether this information relates to Natthawut's incident, who also mentioned a previous fainting spell 20 years ago due to tiredness. This raises the question of whether his present condition may warrant a check-up. However, he echoes that some events possibly extend beyond human comprehension. Phra Thong Intanon, who was present during the live concert, also shared the disconcerting experience of watching Natthawut swoon. He initially mistaken the episode as a prank until Natthawut fell unconscious. Phra Thong managed to wake him after about two minutes. Despite arranging for an ambulance, Natthawut declined to go to the hospital as he felt better. Phra Thong admitted that he had never seen Natthawut in such a condition before, which was a cause for concern. A family in Bangkok is seeking justice following the death of a man who initially was mistaken for being drunk when he was actually suffering from a stroke. The man was held for suspected drunk driving by the police, delaying his medical treatment and eventually leading to his death. A video of the incident, showing a black Toyota Fortuner SUV involved in several crashes on Charoen Krung Road, went viral on social media. The car, commonly used for airport services, is shown being chased by food delivery riders who fail to get a responsive reaction from the driver. Initial public speculation concluded the driver was possibly intoxicated, but the truth emerged when the man's girlfriend, Manao, revealed that he had a stroke and later died in the hospital. She pointed an accusing finger at Yannawa Police Station officers who she claimed mishandled the situation and hastened his death. Assisted by the non-profit organization Saimai Survive, Manao shared the events leading to the fatal incident. She recalled that her boyfriend, Krit, was returning from a passenger drop-off to a hotel in Bang Rak area from Suvarnabhumi International Airport on July 13. During his return journey, he called Manao complaining of a severe headache and nausea - symptoms of a stroke. She urged him to seek medical care but his condition worsened, leading to the multiple car crashes. Manao contacted Krit numerous times hoping he would wake up from his apparent unconsciousness, but only overheard loud shouting and knocking on the car from the outside. Around 7pm, Krit's mother informed Manao that Krit had been detained by the police for suspected drunk driving. Manao tried to reason with the police about Krit's health condition, insisting he was not drunk but needed urgent medical care. This was reportedly ignored and Krit was left in custody without receiving medical care. Nearly two hours later, Krit lost consciousness and was quickly rushed to a hospital by a rescue team. The doctors informed Manao and Krit's parents that Krit's treatment had been delayed too long, and he passed away three days later. Manao firmly believes that quicker action from the police could have saved Krit's life and is now demanding an apology as well as accountability. The founder of Saimai Survive pointed out that the owner of one of the cars hit by Krit had urged the police to give Krit medical help, noting that there were clear signs of him being unwell. The same driver also reported that there was no detectable smell of alcohol from Krit. Manao announced that she will wait for Krit's blood test results before taking any legal action against the officers at Yannawa Police Station. A Thai man killed a two month old baby in a rage by throwing the infant to the ground after he failed to rape the child’s mother at her home in the northern province of Chiang Rai. Officers from Wiang Kaen Police Station arrested the 40 year old alleged murderer, Lee Saeyang, at his home, which was located opposite the victim’s residence in the Wiang Kaen district of Chiang Rai province on Sunday, July 21. His arrest followed the murder of the two month old baby girl named Linlada and the attempted rape of Linlada’s mother, 20 year old Chanikarn. Linlada bore a severe wound to her head due to Lee’s cruel attack. Chanikan recounted the incident to the police, stating that she was drying clothes outside her home when Lee approached and asked to have sex with her. When she refused Lee tried to force her, threatening to kill her daughter if she continued to resist. Chanikarn refused again, prompting Lee to rush inside her home, grab the baby’s legs, and throw her to the ground instantly killing the child. Lee then fled to his home, located opposite Chanikarn’s residence. During the interrogation, Lee confessed to the brutal murder and attempted rape. Lee explained that he was alone and had feelings for Chanikarn for a long time. He decided to approach her on the day of the incident because her husband was not home. Lee allegedly confessed that he threatened to kill the baby if Chanikarn denied him sex and reportedly admitted to carrying out his threat. Chanikarn told the police that she tried to stop Lee but later submitted and agreed to have sex but he grabbed her daughter and killed her. Chanikarn said she could not accept what had happened. Her baby had just begun to smile and was so adorable. Officers planned a reenactment at the scene but later cancelled it because more than 200 locals in the area were waiting for Lee there. The police were worried that Lee would be lynched. Lee was charged with intentional murder. The punishment is the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment from 15 to 20 years according to Section 288 of the Criminal Law. The Democrat Party has strongly opposed Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit’s proposal to extend the concession of the Don Mueang Tollway operator by 30 years in exchange for lowering the fare to 50 baht. This 21-kilometre expressway connects Bangkok’s Din Daeng area to the National Memorial in Lam Luk Ka district, Pathum Thani. The proposal emerged following the concessionaire’s plan to increase the fare by five to 10 baht per section on December 22, raising the rate from 80 to 90 baht for the Din Daeng to Don Mueang section and from 35 to 40 baht for the Don Muang to National Memorial section. Suriya reportedly argued that extending the concession would alleviate the government’s financial burden, which would otherwise have to compensate for the reduced revenues due to the lower toll. Charnchai Issarasenarak, a former Democrat MP for Nakhon Nayok, criticised the proposal, stating it is poorly thought out since the concession expires in 2034, at which point the tollway will be transferred to the state. “After that, motorists can use the expressway free of charge. If the concession is extended, the operator will continue collecting money for another 30 years.” Samart Ratchapolsitte, a former Deputy Bangkok Governor, expressed his concerns on Facebook, noting that state agencies typically negotiate with expressway operators to delay toll increases to ease the cost of living. He argued that the minister’s plan does not serve the public’s best interests. Samart wrote that the concession extension would benefit motorists but it means that the state cannot intervene in setting toll fares during the extended concession period. If the expressway is transferred to the state after the concession ends, the state will have the freedom to lower fares. According to the operator, the planned toll hikes align with the adjustments allowed every five years under the concession deal, potentially increasing the toll from 130 baht per trip to 145 baht per trip before the concession ends. Originally, the tollway operation was set to transfer to the state in 2014 under a 25-year contract. However, between 2005 and 2006, the operator claimed financial losses due to the government not approving a fare hike and reduced traffic following the opening of Suvarnabhumi Airport. This dispute led to negotiations between the operator and the Highway Department, resulting in the operator being granted an additional 27 years to run the expressway and permission to increase fares as specified in the agreement, reported Bangkok Post. Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai revealed plans to manage agricultural products and secondary crops for the latter half of the year. He instructed Vuttikrai Leewiraphan, commerce permanent secretary, and Wattanasak Sur-iam, Director-Deneral of the Internal Trade Department (ITD), to engage department stores, convenience stores, and petrol stations in buying products from farmers to stabilise agricultural prices. Phumtham said the conventional method in which the government intervenes to support farm prices is not sustainable. “On the other hand, the government should seek collaboration from large conglomerates such as PTT, Charoen Pokphand Foods, Thai Beverage, Tops, and EmQuartier to help buy agricultural products by leveraging their corporate social responsibility activities.” The ministry is monitoring 18 categories of secondary crops, which include 11 types of fruit: durian, mangosteen, rambutan, longkong, longan, pineapple, lychee, pomelo, tangerines, Marian plum, and mango. Additionally, four types of vegetables—lemons, tomatoes, pumpkins, and chilli peppers—and three types of root crops—shallots, onions, and garlic—are being tracked. At present, the prices of fresh vegetables and fruit remain stable. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin yesterday instructed the commerce permanent secretary and ITD Director-General to oversee the prices and quality of agricultural products in the second half of the year. The division’s commander, Police Major General Nirandon Sirisangchai, clarified yesterday that the RTP has never procured body armour or armour plates made with wood. He stressed that the purchasing and inspection processes are transparent, verifiable, and adhere to all relevant laws and regulations. “Every vest is standardised under the National Institute of Justice measures and guaranteed by manufacturers.” He added that any officers who have been injured while wearing these vests or who have concerns about their quality are encouraged to send them to the division for inspection. The controversy began last week when an anonymous netizen posted a photo on Facebook showing a bulletproof vest, supposedly issued by the RTP, layered with plywood. The post alleged that the use of such a vest indicated corruption among senior officers, as plywood, would not provide adequate protection. A Move Forward Party MP from Chachoengsao, Jirat Thongsuwan, amplified the issue by reposting the picture and criticising the quality of the RTP-issued vests. Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has announced that the country will attempt to control cannabis use through laws, rather than reverting to categorizing it as a narcotic. This comes as a change in policy direction. Anutin thanked Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin for deciding to control cannabis usage via legislation. The PM, Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin, and Anutin had discussions on Tuesday during which the Prime Minister gave instructions to draft a law managing cannabis rather than classifying it as a narcotic again. Prommin Lertsuridej, secretary-general to the Prime Minister stated that whether cannabis is considered a narcotic or not, will depend on parliamentary discussions on a draft law. In 2022, Thailand became one of the first Asian countries to decriminalize marijuana, with Anutin serving as the health minister. This brought about an increase in recreational usage and sparked public concern about abuse. The Bhumjaithai Party, which has always supported decriminalizing cannabis for medicinal and economical uses, had drafted a bill to manage its use. However, it didn't get passed. Currently, the Pheu Thai Party-led government maintains that recreational use of cannabis will not be permitted under the new laws being drawn up by the Ministry of Public Health. Prime Minister Srettha previously said that cannabis would be added back to the narcotics list, but exemptions would be made for medical use and research. Drafting of these rules should be completed by the year-end. The country's marijuana retail sector has seen tremendous growth, with tens of thousands of businesses opening in the past two years. The industry is estimated to be valued up to $2 billion by 2025. Anutin, who also serves as the interior minister, mentioned that the draft bill will handle how the cannabis industry is regulated, and political parties may present drafts in parliament. The Office of the Narcotics Control Board proposed to implement changes, beginning January 1, 2025, giving a buffer period for operators to adjust and apply for new licenses. The new rules would ban the possession, import, and sale of cannabis unless licensed by the Ministry of Public Health. Chaithawat assured that the MFP has not only grown stronger but its members are now more equipped and prepared to ensure victory in the next General Election. Confident that the court ruling would favour the party due to their solid legal arguments, he saw no immediate need for a party meeting to discuss the matter. “There’s still time to talk. We’ve told the MPs that if the outcome is negative, there will be a process to follow. So, it’s not necessary to discuss the issue at this moment.” Party MPs are scheduled to attend a House meeting tomorrow and will follow the ruling hearing at Parliament, gathering later at the party’s headquarters. Chaithawat also called on party supporters to show their moral support at the party headquarters, which he described as more convenient than the court compound. The Constitutional Court completed its hearing into the case last week, concluding it had sufficient evidence to make a ruling after a four-month review. The decision on the party’s fate will be announced tomorrow. The ruling follows a petition submitted in March by the Election Commission (EC), which accused the MFP of violating Section 92 of the organic law on political parties. The court accepted the petition for hearing on April 3. Sorawong clarified yesterday, July 21, that expulsion requires a breach of party rules determined by an ethics committee, which has found no such breach in Chalerm’s case. Chalerm is a valuable member, and the party has no intention of losing him, he mentioned. Should Chalerm resign, he would forfeit his parliamentary status. However, if expelled, he could retain his status by joining another party within the legally allowed timeframe. During a Facebook Live session, Wan refuted claims that his son, Archawin, would join him and Chalerm in moving to the PPRP. He confirmed that Archawin remains a Pheu Thai member and serves as an adviser to Digital Economy and Society Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong. Wan plans to apply for PPRP membership tomorrow, while Chalerm is awaiting a party process to impeach him. “My son is 27 years old. Let him decide his own career path. Political analysts predict that the Blue group, believed to be allied with the Bhumjaithai Party and comprising over 140 senators, will likely see its candidates secure the Senate Speaker and deputy roles. General Kriangkrai Srirak and Mongkol Surasajja are the group’s prospective candidates. Analysts highlighted Sen Mongkol’s strong chance of winning the Senate Speaker’s election due to his public administration experience. The Independence faction plans to nominate Sen Boonsong Noisophon as the Second Deputy Senate Speaker, as confirmed by Sen Sorachart Suwannaprom. Boonsong, a former judge and election commissioner, is seen as a highly suitable candidate for the position.
