  20. Pheu Thai MP Khrumanit Sungpoom has warned the Move Forward party about widespread speculation that it plans to engage in political game play by expelling Deputy House Speaker Padipat Suntiphada from the party, so that it can claim the vacant leader of the opposition post and keep Padipat as Deputy House Speaker, but under the banner of another party. The MP for the north-eastern province of Surin asked both the Move Forward party and Padipat to think twice about such a move, pointing out that such an expulsion would put Padipat in a difficult position when performing his duties as Deputy House Speaker. Being expelled from a party is a serious matter, equivalent to political suicide, because it would hurt the dignity of the Deputy House Speaker’s post, said Khrumanit, as he reminded Padipat that he is among the MPs who voted to approve the latter’s selection as deputy House speaker. 21. No parole for Thaksin… yet Convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is not yet entitled to parole, according to Corrections Department spokesman Sitthi Sutheewong today (Monday). Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1306947-no-parole-for-thaksin…-yet/
  22. Convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is not yet entitled to parole, according to Corrections Department spokesman Sitthi Sutheewong today (Monday). He dismissed as untrue reports that Thaksin, whose prison term was reduced from eight to one year by a royal commutation, will submit an application for parole, citing his age and serious illness. While Thaksin may fit the profile of those who can apply for parole, he must remain incarcerated for at least one-third of his jail term or at least six months (whichever is the longer), as required by the rules. Thaksin is currently only in the first month of his jail time, Suthee said. “One third of his one-year prison time is four months, but the rules state that the time served has to be at least six months. So, Thaksin has to serve five more months before being entitled to apply for parole.” If granted parole, Thaksin is expected to be a free man again next February, Suthee said.
