  13. PHOTO: Jungceylon Shopping Centre is open again There’s no more potent symbol of the rebooting of Phuket’s tourism and shopping than the reopening of Patong’s largest shopping precinct, Jungceylon. Today is the first time the shopping centre has reopened since being closed down after Phuket Airport shut down flights in April 2020. Some of the shops tried to battle on and the centre was also used as vaccination location when vaccines became available. Earlier this year the Jungceylon management announced that it was intending to conduct a minor make-over of the facility and was aiming to re-open “before Christmas this year”. “…the first phase of Jungceylon’s revamp will be unveiled on 16 December ahead of Christmas and New Year.” Calling itself a “one-stop shopping destination encompassing fresh and immersive concepts…” today’s media release says the revamp will transform Jungceylon into a “new shopping experience in the heart of Patong”. Part of the makeover includes three new ‘zones’ – The Botanica Zone, The Jungle Zone and The Bay Zone. To celebrate today’s reopening Jungceylon is running promotions and events including the Tourist Privilege Card, Colour of Blooming Flowers, Flora Fairytale and Santa’s Treasure. There will also be the annual Phuket Carnival with floats travelling along the beachhead, starting at 4pm. 17. BANGKOK (NNT) - Measures to stimulate tourism have resulted in Thailand becoming the destination of choice for foreign tourists. The return of revenue from tourism has allowed relevant businesses to recover and income to be dissipated nationwide. Phuket was found to have made the highest amount of income from tourism this year, taking in more than 127 billion baht in the first 10 months. Deputy government spokesperson Tipanan Sirichana spoke of the success in achieving 10 million foreign tourist arrivals on December 10 this year. Efforts to revive tourism commenced with the Phuket Sandbox program which was then expanded to other areas of Thailand. Borders were ultimately completely reopened. Ms. Tipanan said the Thai public’s cooperation with health measures enabled the tourism scene to revive quickly. The success exceeded expectations, with 10 million foreign tourists having arrived between January 1 and December 10 this year. Ms. Tipanan indicated a large amount of money entered Thailand during January and October because of tourism. Many provinces experienced greater income from tourism, especially Phuket province which took in 127.927 billion baht. 2,329,894 foreign tourists visited the province during the aforementioned period. Runner-up Chonburi made 13.283 billion baht in tourism income from 975,026 foreign tourists. Surat Thani took in 7.586 billion baht from 606,812 foreign tourists. Ms. Tipanan added that based on real encounters and social media feedback, the public is aware of the successes of tourism stimulation measures. The measures prompted foreign tourists to select Thailand as their destination. In turn, this allowed all businesses relevant to tourism to recover and experience a jump in revenue. 25. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister’s Office minister has given his policies to Public Relations Department (PRD) personnel, asking for the PRD to perform an added role in coordination. In this way, public plights may be swiftly relayed to state agencies and action can be taken to resolve problems quickly. Prime Minister’s Office Minister Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana delivered his policies to PRD personnel at the department’s headquarters in Phayathai district, Bangkok. The policy brief was part of an activity to foster understanding among PRD personnel about current public communication guidelines. The day’s activity was also partaken in by PRD Director-General Lt. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd and Prime Minister’s Office Permanent Secretary Teerapong Wongsiwawilas. PRD executives and personnel from headquarters as well as provincial offices were in attendance to hear out the policies. Minister Thanakorn commended the PRD for having brought about changes and performing as an agency the public could rely on. In keeping with present-day communication demands, he said accuracy, conciseness, and target matching are needed. He is emphasizing two-way communication between the government and the public. This would enable public input to be fed back to the government. He also emphasized constructive communication and the relay of facts, which will enable bodies of knowledge to be fostered among the public. The hope is to facilitate people’s capacity to make analyses of information. The minister also placed importance on online communication. He asked the PRD to take government policies and initiatives and use them to create awareness for the public. This would especially be true for public complaints, where the PRD would now perform as a coordinating agency. Relaying public plights to the responsible agencies would then enable assistance and remedies to be issued swiftly. Mr. Thanakorn noted he is familiar with the PRD director-general as the two worked together when he was the government spokesperson. He said this gave him confidence that changes in the PRD’s performance will be in a positive direction.
