Taiwan’s Bureau of Consular Affairs announced Thursday that nationals from the Philippines, along with nationals from 10 other countries, would again enjoy visa-free privileges as part of the island’s moves to reopen borders which it shuttered at the onset of the pandemic, state-run CNA reported. While Filipinos may start entering Taiwan for 14 days without a visa, they and other travelers to the island are still expected to follow its quarantine scheme, which involves quarantining for three days and self-monitoring for four days. The average 5 baht/kg is not, however, as low as the about 3.11 baht/kg in 2019 and 4.8 baht/kg in 2020. Last year the price was 6.6 baht/kg. The price of fertiliser, meanwhile, has shot up to about 2,000 baht per 100kg sack this year, due to the war in Ukraine, compared to between 700 and 800 baht/100Kg last year. Warin Suwanrat, an oil palm farmer in Trang province, told Thai PBS that he earned about 3,000 baht from the sale of his raw palm nuts, but had to spend about 10,000 baht to buy fertiliser, because palm trees need fertilising every four months to bear fruit. NAKHON PATHOM (NNT) - The Nakhon Pathom provincial industrial works office has ordered the Indorama Polyester Industries plant in the Nakhon Chai Si district to close for 15 days beginning Thursday (Sep 22), pending an inspection to ensure there are no further chemical leaks into the environment. According to reports, on Thursday, approximately 30 liters of heat transfer fluid known as biphenyl and diphenyl oxide leaked from a production unit in the plant, resulting in several schools in the districts of Nakhon Chai Si, Sam Phran, and Salaya being ordered to suspend classes for safety. Following the incident, the Pollution Control Department officials advised nearby residents to don facemasks and remain inside their homes until further notice. To prevent a recurrence of the incident, Sahawat Sobha, the deputy director of the Industrial Works Department, stated that the factory had been ordered to cease operations until a thorough inspection to determine the source of the chemical leak had been completed. Meanwhile, Nakhon Pathom governor Surasak Charoensirichoke said there were also reports of chemical odor being detected in Taweewattana district, more than 10 kilometers from the factory. He added that a follow-up inspection of the air quality within a 17-kilometer radius of the factory found no traces of the leaked chemicals. The management of Indorama Polyester Industries has since issued a public apology, explaining that the incident was unintentional and vowing to assist businesses and residents affected by the leak. There were fun activities for the students to bond and share One Health knowledge including visits to farms. After the Summit, the students joined the SEAOHUN 2022 International Conference from 6 th to 7 th September 2022 at Grand Richmond Hotel, Nonthaburi, Thailand. “We were excited to organize the SEAOHUN Student Summit 2022. Being our first in-person meeting of its kind since 2019, the Summit enabled students to learn from each other and One Health practitioners through hands-on field work. Deputy government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul issued the warning after diphenyl oxide and biphenyl leaked from the polyester and synthetic fiber factory of Indorama Polyester Industries Co on Phetkasem Road in Khun Kaeo sub-district of Nakhon Chaisri district this morning. Thailand’s Land Transport Department (LTD) has given approval for app-based Robinhood and Grab to operate taxi and motorcycle taxi ride hailing services in the country. The two operators are required to submit bank guarantee letters to the department within 30 days, ensure that they comply with the conditions set by the department and cover damage caused to their passengers and their bikers in the course of providing their services, said LTD Deputy Director-General Seksom Akraphand today (Thursday). The two operators are also required to submit their ride-hailing operational plans to the department within 15 days, he said, adding that private cars used to provide the services will have to be re-registered as public transport vehicles and the drivers will have to apply for public transport driving licenses and have their criminal records checked by the police. A patrol police pickup truck from the Map Ta Phut Police Station rammed into high-mast lighting in Rayong during a heavy rain storm around midnight of Thursday, September 22nd, killing one officer and seriously injuring two more officers. Map Ta Phut police officials and rescue volunteers arrived at the scene on Sukhumvit Road around 12:30 A.M. on Thursday after being notified of the road accident. Upon arrival, the patrol police car was found crashed into high-mass lighting in the middle of the road. Three injured police officers were stuck inside the vehicle. The rescue teams then spent about an hour in the rain to cut through the vehicle with a rescue device and take the officials out. Unfortunately, one of the officials who was sitting in the passenger seat was pronounced dead while two who were seriously injured were immediately rushed to a local hospital.
