Altercation Turns Violent: Englishman and wife injured in Knife Duel
Anyway, the title is a misnomer. There was no knife 'duel' - a duel would require both combatants to have a knife and in this case there was only one knife. A better title would be, 'Wife slashes her hand while fighting with husband over a knife'.

Altercation Turns Violent: Englishman and wife injured in Knife Duel
Absolute nonsense. Knife crime in the UK is very low by international standards and death by stabbing in the UK is almost the lowest of any country in the world and well below Thailand, US, Australia, France, Germany...etc. https://wisevoter.com/country-rankings/stabbing-deaths-by-country/ When stabbings do occur in the UK they are nearly always between gangs of youths (usually know to each other). They get well-reported of course.

Thai food vendor sparks debate after giving free food to foreign backpacker
Not too many years ago my youngest daughter had to beg for food when backpacking in the USA. She was attacked and robbed of money, phone etc whilst in Seattle. She went to the police but they weren't interested in helping and even declined to make a phonecall on her behalf. After a day spent in some distress she went into a fastfood restaurant where one of the staff gave her a meal and let her use a phone to make calls and send some emails. She's not a loser - now a doctor in a UK hospital.

Family friendly resort? (Part 2)
"Former fishing village Pattaya became popular with American troops on 'rest and relaxation' breaks in the 1960s when the U.S. military had bases in Thailand. In the ensuing years, the coastal resort spawned into a semi-barbarous sex-tourism hellscape." The above appeared in the UK's Daily Mail in connection with the recent 'fake kidnap' case. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13018095/Brit-fakes-kidnap-ransom-cash-family-holiday-thailand-sin-city.html This written by a lady called Miriam Kuepper - apparently a trainee journalist of Swiss origin. I doubt she has ever visited Pattaya because her description of the place is much at odds with my experience. In fact a comparison with a Friday or Saturday night in some of the UK's regional cities would make Pattaya seem as calm and orderly as Zurich.

Police as personal bodyguards / escorts - how much does it cost?
Depends what the 'job' is and how much you need to keep the police 'on side'. Years ago my late father-in-law walked into a busy restaurant and shot a guy through the head. Police never investigated and I guess that cost him a lot of money. He was close with the police up there (west side of Udon and over toward Ban Phue) and some dodgy stuff went on. They used to collect debts for him and so on. If you want a bodyguard then, yes, a fit ex-soldier with a gun might be a better bet.

Bum gun in bathroom leaking / broken
Those things are so cheap and easy to change yourself (literally couple of minutes) its hardly worth the bother of scheduling someone to call round.

Police as personal bodyguards / escorts - how much does it cost?
Without wishing to go into details, my wife has had reason to hire police up in Udon on a few occasions. The price depends on the seniority of the officers and what you want them to do - might need quite a bit of back and forth negotiation. There is no 'rate for the job'. If its recovering a debt they will likely expect a fee plus a percentage of the debt.

Update: British teacher arrested for sexual assault in Thailand
Before the guy is lynched it might be an idea to step back and gather statements, evidence and hold a trial. I don't trust newspaper reports. There was a case in the UK a year or two ago where several girls collectively accused a male teacher of sexual assault - later they admitted they had lied (after almost wrecking his life).

Is Melatonin Unavailable in Thailand Now?
Last year I wanted to buy some melatonin and noticed it had all disappeared from Lazada and Shopee. None at local pharmacies either. I went to the Boots pharmacy at Central Pattaya and was offered a pack of 10x 3mg at a very high price. I asked the pharmacist what was going on and was told that melatonin is not an approved medication but had previously been sold as a food supplement. That has apparently been banned so there is only old stock. Maybe this incorrect information - but it does seem to be in limited supply compared with a year ago.
-
Melatonin supplier?
Do you have a link for Lazada please? I've been unable to find any on there...
-
Melatonin supplier?
I've tried to get some but now illegal in Thailand apparently.. Boots pharmacy still had some in stock but at a ridiculous price (I think it was ฿700 for 10x 3mg tablets). You could order online from overseas (e.g. iHerb) but I guess customs might confiscate it.

British Man Arrested with Magic Mushroom in Patong
I find that rather a sad picture. Scrawny lad pointing at what I assume is a small bag containing some dried mushroom. 1g would be about the minimum amount of dried mushroom to achieve any effect.

Boots pharmacies still have it if you ask, but very expensive.

Thai driver’s fueling video in Malaysia sparks digital outcry, prompts complaints to Malaysian PM
Yes, there are 'experts' on here. The fuel octane rating has no impact on the air/fuel ratio. Increasing the octane rating of a fuel reduces its propensity to detonate (knock). Detonation can cause engine damage. The sticker on the fuel filler therefore indicates the minimum octane fuel that should be used. A higher octane will cause no problems. Certain engines (depending upon design and their control system) may perform a little better on a higher octane fuel. 97 can therefore be used where 95 is the minimum recommendation.

The King will EVICT ANDREW !
The question is whether the allegations are true. Seems Andrew has been 'convicted' by the media based on the claims of one woman (who was over the UK age of consent at the time of the allegation). Apparently there are also some allegations that Prof Stephen Hawking took part in an orgy.......

Thai driver’s fueling video in Malaysia sparks digital outcry, prompts complaints to Malaysian PM
Firstly its the licence plate that is relevant, not the nationality of the driver. Only Malaysian-plated cars can fill up with state-subsidised 95 octane. For example, a Malaysian-registered rental car driven by a foreigner can fill up with 95, but a Malaysian driving a Thai-registered car cannot. Secondly, there is no fuel compatibility issue because any car requiring 95 will run at least as good on 97, with no risk of engine damage.

Buy a condo to Airbnb - is it really profitable?
My wife bought a couple of cheap 'Thai style' condos about 10-12 years ago. Rented out to locals. She's had to give them a lick of paint and few minor repairs but no major problems and had her money back already. About 7 years ago she became part owner of a small hotel in the UK. I expected it to be a financial disaster but against all the odds it generates some serious money. I think a lot more that a similar venture in Thailand could deliver.

AC troubleshooting OTP Error
You seem to have adopted a 'poke and hope' approach to solving this problem. In general the electronics are pretty reliable and e.g. EEPROMs don't fail unless there is some external cause (water, insects etc). I would normally check out the rotating electrics and sensors first, since they are more likely to fail. These AC units have rotation sensors on compressor and fans - the unit will not run if it senses no rotation. Also there are temperature and gas pressure sensors......
