  1. Hello...

I have been reading in this forum that the immigration now required 1.6 million THB as economic balance.

I wonder if there is new rules, I have been using a combination of pension and bank account, more than 800.000 THB per year and will renew my extension in a few months.

I would be glad to know if there is new rules or if its still the same requirements for retirement extension.

  2. Installed program files are locked in by their registry entries. So have to uninstall then reinstall the program onto d: drive if you want to gain space. Could also get new larger HDD, clone the current HDD onto the new HDD, then pull the old, replace with the new clone and use the old one for backup etc.

Maybe the best solution,in your case its better to buy a new larger disk and clone the present one into the new one.

Cloning its a good way also to backup your entire computer, disk ALWAYS crash, but you never know when!!!

  3. Hello, you should apply for a 90-day Non-Immigrant visa before yougo to Thailand for the purposes of a retirement extension at the Immigration bureau here in Thailand, you need to bring with you documents that certify your pension from your government or other sources that you maight receive pension from, then you will need a certificate from your embassy here in Thailand to submit your one year extension application at the Immigration bureau.

    Goodluck and welcome to Thailand

  4. Hello........the last weeks my and many other ADSL users internet connections have big problems with our internet speed but at late nights and early mornings it works much better and at that timees i got a proper acceptable speed.

I read some news about that Thailand is working with new lines out and in from the country and maybe that can cause the speed problem that we facing and at daytime an evening there are so many users online so that naturly can be the reason why the speed is so slow so maybe in some month maybe it will be allright.

The best is that the users comnplain to our providers so maybe they have to hurry up to get the new servers and lines to have enough capacity to handle our connections more properly.

  5. Hello..........as far as I know thailand have no such program for early retired people but thaivisa.com have s few members that have more knowledge about whats going on inside the governments wall and maybe some thing will change about early retirees in the future but to apply for an education visa is a good idea to think more about and its much more easy to let us know your age when you wonder about topics like retirement visa.

  6. Hello.

I read a posting that a retiree should extend for one more year and was told by the immigration officer that the combination option was no longer valid and there was only 2 options , 65.000 THB pension or 800.000 THb in a bank and I been doing some research about whats the ral truth and it seems that the combination method is still an option.

What worries me and a lot of other retirees is if this kind of romours is spread without a real fact will make us more worried because Thailand can almost change the immigration rules without prior notice.

Thailand have lost a lot of tourists and I have also heard about athat many have plans to look for oher countries if the immigration have plans to make it more difficult for us to remain in Thailand.

I know that there are many that use the combination method because their pension is not high enough to get the one year extension and so it is even in my case and i wonder how many people that have to use the combination method to stay here in Thailand but I think its alot.

I know we have some members that have good knowledges about the recent rules and they also do a great job to inform if there is someting going on at the government if some rules are going to change or not and I really honor all of you that spend a lot of your time for your great job here at thaivisa.com.

    Regards

  7. Hello....its just a few months left of my one year extension based on retirement and its time to get prepared for the renewal for another year, I enter thailand april 2008 on a non-o visa multiple entries and got my one year extension at end of october.

I was using the combination method of pension stated by my embeassy and savings at Bangkok bank alltogether about 850.000 THB.

Just wonder if the rules are the same as last year and i will submit following documents for renewal:

    TM 7 form with photo

Statement from my embassy that prove my pension from Sweden.

Statement from Bangkok Bank about my savings and pension+banksavings are more than required 800.000 THB per year.

Photocopies from my passports relevant pages.

Just wonder id´f there is any more documents i need for a renewal, do i have to go abroad for a new non-o visa?

I am thankful for advices from anyone with knowledges about this topic.

    Regards.

    Bengt!!

  8. This is a worrying sign that many banks in Thailand are on their way to a big collapse and not only farangs have to pay 150 THB every local bank also charge but whit less fee....just look whats goin on in the rest of this world...its the people that have to pay for the banks misstakes to loan out money to people that cannot pay back their loans!

  9. Self-exiled Aussie dies in Bangkok

A Melbourne man who preferred to live in a crowded Bangkok immigration cell rather than return to Australia has died.

Colin Hansch, 61, told Thai authorities he would rather stay in jail than return to Australia, even though he only slept on a mat and received a small serve of rice and soup each day.

"I've not been back to Australia for 30 years. I don't want to go back. I've got nothing to go back to," Mr Hansch said last year.

A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed Mr Hansch's death in a police hospital in Bangkok.

The spokesman declined to reveal the cause of death.

People who visited him in the detention centre say he probably died from an overdose of prescription medicine.

Mr Hansch, a computer engineer who left Australia decades ago, refused offers by the Australian embassy in Bangkok to issue him a limited Australian travel document to allow him to return to Australia.

It is believed he wanted a passport so he could again leave Australia.

Mr Hansch had been detained at the Immigration Centre in Bangkok, near the Australian embassy, since September 2004.

He was transferred there, supposedly pending deportation, after serving two years in a Bangkok jail for assault causing bodily harm that related to a dispute with a bar girl in the tourist resort city of Pattaya.

There are about 25 Australians among thousands of foreigners being held in Thai jails, most of them for drug related offences.

Nicholas Zemlianski, another elderly prisoner from Melbourne, is believed to be unwell in a prison hospital in Bangkok.

Australia has an agreement with Thailand that allows prisoners there to be transferred to Australian jails but the process is intensely bureaucratic and there have been only a handful of exchanges.

  10. Swedish readers vote Thai beaches best

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN: -- Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet's subscribers have voted Thailand as the best beach destination outside Europe for 2009, says the Tourism Authority of Thailand's Stockholm office.

In the newspaper's sixth annual survey, 31.3 per cent of 30,093 subscribers voted for Thailand.

Runners-up were Brazil, Malaysia, the Dominican Republic, Florida and the Canary Islands.

They also voted Bangkok the sixth most attractive city to visit, after New York, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco and Miami.

For sure they didn't visit pattaya beach in this case.

They, for sure, haven't visited the thread:

"Bow Wow, Come To The Beach"

Which, given the large contingent of Swedes residing in the Bang Saen area, tells me that these Swedish ex-pats are not Aftonbladet subscribers.

Right...........they didnt go to Bangsaen....and Chonburi is same dirty beaches...but nice to live here anyway....can take a bath in some swimming pool..

  11. Has anyone successfully obtained a retirement extension at Sriracha either using the income option or the combination option?

I have previously read on this forum and heard from various other people that the only option that Sriracha immigration will accept is the b800,000 in bank for three months. This is not an option for me and I have previously used the monthly income of 65,000 baht at Pattaya immigration for my first extension but due to the new rules it appears that I will have to go to Sriracha.

My renewal is due at the beginning of May and I would like to hear some first hand experiences before I approach them.

I also believe that they still require a medical certificate which other offices do not, I would appreciate any advice on this.

    Many thanks in advance.

Hi....I help a friend to get a retirement extension based on a certified letter from the Swedish embassy that verified hes incoming pension was a lot more than the required 65.000 THB per month and it was no problem and took about an hour the whole process...

I use a combination about 50% or 400.000 THB in a Thaibank and a certified letter from our embassy that make the total requirement at least 800.000 THB per year.

The option that you need 800.000 THB in a Thaibank requires that you at first time of application have 800.000 THB at least for 2 months but at the second application you need to have that money in the bank for 3 months.

Then if you using bank option or combination option you need a certified letter from the bank manager for the application at the Immigration office and that letter have to be NOT more than a few days old.

As far as I know no need to have a health certificate for a one year extension

    Good luck.

    Regards

  12. Documents needed for renewal of Thai driving license:

    • Passport (and 1 signed copy of photo page)
    • Visa page and non immigrant visa page (and 1 signed copy of each)
    • Two 1 inch photos (available from vendors outside the parking area around the main building)
    • Your old Thai driving license.
I have only tourist visa, do they accept this, anyone.

As far as i know they require Non-Immigrant visa so you must have a reason to convert your tourist visa to a Non-Immigrant but I am sure there are other members that could give you a more good advise how to renew.

In my case they require for Car and Motorcycle

    1. Old Thai drivinglicences that must have expire

    2. Passport whit a Work permit or Non-Immigrant visa "copies"

    3. 2 documents signed of any doctor at any hospital or clinic that you are healthy enough

    4. Residence certificate that you can get at an immigration office and there you need proof of your residence..rental contract or and a electrical bill or similar that proof your address . and "Copies"

But no need to bring photos now because they have a machine that take the pic of you when they print your new driving licence.

I hope other member can give their experiences how to do when its time to renew your driving licences....whish you good luck.

    Regards!

  13. I seen the last days that the prices of gasohol are increasing and just wonder if the government is about to stop subsidizing the gasohol as they have been doing at almost half a year.

Anyone that knows more about this??

    Bengt!

  14. Can I go alone for border stamp ? Visa renewal by walking through ?

Now the new rule of every 15 days applies, its getting very costly. Is it possible for me to just ride there and walk over and back ? Or are they going to sting me some silly charge ?

Has anyone done this ok before to Cambodia ?

Thank and Happy new Year everyone.

Hello....its a better idea to go to laos and apply for a double entry tourist visa,, to just cross at cambodia every 2 weeks will be much to expensive:

Cambodia visa 1.000 THB+ tea money to the cambodia immigration 200 THB and travel expenses and so on

I hope you can get more alternatives from other members and its good idea to let us know your nationality ,age and if you married to a Thai citizen or have some kind of income from abroad like pension or so, then we can provide you whit all the necessary information you will need to get the best visa alternatives.

  15. Havnt heard any rumors about a 400.000 THB for a retirement extension but who knows....in this financial crisis times that have been affected the entire world and even if Thailand seems have their economy under control the economy crisis will affect Thailand too.

The tourism have been dropping and maybe the immigration rules will change again like many times before but in another direction.

I think Thailand in the coming future will be more dependent on any kind of tourism as well as expats that prefer to settle here as a retiree.

Lets wait and see what will happen here in Thailand in 2009.....anyone have any ideas or??
