  1. 99.9% are here for sex and the rest are liars. :o

Thailand have drop the sex tourism and Cambodia and Vietnam have been more intresting now maybe because of economic reasons maybe.

I have seen tousands of sex-workers that have to struggle for their surviving and its less customers or sexbuyers that have tousands of willing ladies to choose between so Thailand have become less interesting for sextourism.

  2. A few months ago the price of fuel exeed 40 THB per litre and since then the fuel prices have get down and I filled up my tank whit gasohol 91 for about 26.50 THB and I read something about that the Thai government have also subsidize the gasohol whith 4,7 THB per litre.

Is there anyone that knows more about this?

  3. I figure this is something that many with large deposits for visas and living expenses are thinking about at the moment.

Does anyone out there know what the situation would be if the Bangkok Bank got hit by a run on their bank? Would they simply close their doors till things mellowed out or clarified or would depositors lose the lot?

There is now a guaranty that even foreign nationals can be more safe in case if a bank should collapse but there is a limit and i am not for sure at the moment so ask your bank for the rules.

I am sure there are many expats that have some of their savings in a Thai bank and its best to not have all in same bank.

  4. There are three options:

    1. If you are 50 or more years old

    2. Married to a Thai

    3. Have a job and work permit

    Which do you come in?

Swedish citizens have to be 55 years of age at point one if I apply for a non-o in Sweden,, I dont know why the rules differs from other nationalities in Europe for ex.

But If I am for ex. 52 years i can arrive on tourist visa and convert to a non-o at an immigration office then I can apply for a one year extension here whithout problem.

  5. I have just qualified for my long earned retirement personal pension, I am 51 years old.

First would I be better going for a marriage visa or a retirement visa, I qualify on the income from my pension on both.

Secondly do I have to take my wife to the embassey in bangkok or just the relivant paperwork?

    Thanks

    Spaced-out

If you got the economic requirements for retirement extension as it seems then its the best choice to apply for extension based on retirement because its more convenient for both you and the immigration and its more safe for you in case a conflict in your marriage should lead to a divorcion.

I whish you a good luck as an expat in Thaland!

    Regards!

  6. The TAT in Phuket expects over 250,000 Swedish tourists to visit Phuket during this year’s high season

PHUKET: -- Talking from her previous experience stationed at TAT’s Stockholm office in Sweden, Ranjuan Thongrut, the new Assistant Director for the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Phuket office, anticipates around 254,000 Swedish tourists visiting Phuket.

About 80% of packaged tours are already reserved.

Airlines or direct flights play prominent roles in this busy travel market. At present Thailand’s national carrier provides direct flights from Stockholm to Bangkok 6 times per week with plans to increase to 7 in November.

Some other charter flights will also resume their services this high season.

Many people from my country should se more of Thailand than Phuket.

  7. Yo! Im heading over to bangkok in about 2-3 weeks to work for a language school for 12 months. I believe ill be earning around 30-35000 baht to begin with. My question is, is this enough to live? i like having a good time and im keen to stay in a nice pad and live close to the skytrain, as ill be working in the centre. A family friend has offered me a dope studio apartment in central bangkok for 13000 per month, its got a pool gym fully furnished separated wireless net big plasma screen cable and stuff. is this kosha? how much should i be spending on accommodation? how much do beers cost out on the town? how much do dozen packs of beer cost? how much does food cost per day? im not that fussy with food but remember that im white so i need some degree of quality. what does the skytrain cost per month? i like to listen to loud music and play guitar, will this be a problem in an apartment? how much do i need for a good enough night life? and finally how much do ciggies cost? what about green? is it easy to find? any advice or your thoughts and recommendations are totally appreciated. if anyone has similar interests and feels my steeze u may email me privately. thanx to all in advance! oh and if anyone wouldnt mind another tenant in their place let me know! heres a picture of me, and im 24.

    Complicated question.

As I see it you might have to adjust your life style and if you are able to avoid alcohol then you have a good chance to survive but you should look for a cheaper place to stay.

After you been here for awhile you will discover that the expenses for surviving not have to be as much as other telling you and then its all up to you if you want to live and work here.

I know several foreign people that have an income about 30.000 THB and they have no problem to live on that.

I whish you good luck as a teacher here in Thailand and hope you gonna like your job too.

    Regards

  8. I purchased a car from one of those auto auctions, and am trying to get it transfered into my girlfriends name. The car is registered in Nakorn Si Tammarat, and the Pattaya DLT says we need to go to Chonburi, re-register the car in Chonburi, and then we can transfer the ownership to my girlfriend. Is this the correct process? They said they charge 500 baht for each 100,000 worth of value in the car to transfer from Nakorn Si Tammarat to Chonburi. Alternativily, could we just drive down to Nakorn Si Tammart and get the car transfered? Is there any laws stating that the transfer needs to take place within a certain time period?

Also, if we were to register the car in Chonburi, I'm told we would need an address in Chonburi to register the car at. What is the purpose of this address? My girlfriend's parents are from Nongkhai, and obviously I don't want to drive up there to transfer the car. Would using a friends address in house registration papers in Chonburi work OK? What are the downsides? Thanks.

I think you need an address to get a residence certificate at the immigration and a receipt that the car is fully payed then you can have the car registrated at the transportation office in Chonburi.

Maybe you need a Non-immigrant visa too....not for sure.

There is more people at this messages board that have more knowledge than me so i hope you get all information thats needed

    for you registration.

    Regards!

If your interested have a look here too.

Have already demonstrated a home electrolyser and have showcased a dual fuel Ford Focus earlier this year.

There are many alternative energies we could use, like hydrogen. But all this project's are frozzen for years. Goverments don't like to see this, because they gonna loose all the fuel taxes.

No, they will instead a tax based on kmtrs.

But as a matter of fact.........we really need to be less dependent on oil because countries like India and China will suck up every drop they can do and I think hydrogen as fuel is interesting as long its safe to handle.

  10. A passport is the most important document you have when you travel and stay in another country and mostly the only way as proof of your identity.

But in case you stay in for ex. Pattaya and not travel anywhere else and not want to carry your passport in case you should be a victim for a pick pocketer for ex. it can be a good idea to make photocopies of the relevant pages of your passport, Main page, visa page, recent stamp page and the TM 6 card or the departure card.

If you for ex. have Thai driver license its another proof of your identity and mostly acceptable in case a checkup by the police for ex.

In case for applying for bank account you need your passport and other important "business" whit immigration or other governments in the Kingdom, always take your passport whit you.

Have a pleasant time in Thailand.

    Regards!

  11. I have come to a conclusion that its VERY expensive to buy a car in Thailand and I think its some kind of tax that makes the prices so high but a pickup for ex. is cheaper than a sedan model.

But its also a BIG second hand market and the prices still high but in second hand market i US or Germany or Sweden you can almost get a car for free compared to Thailand.

But in another way of view when i see all traffic jams here especially in Bkk maybe its the best to have high prices on cars.

But I also find out that the cost of owning is cheap compared to Europe for ex. service and repairing s and the fuel is not expensive at all but i think the government deduct the price of gasohol but i am not for sure about that.

If someone knows about taxes on cars pls reply here and i will understand more.....

    Regards

  12. Sorry i take up this topic again but I been reading a Norwegian message board and the Pattaya police will be much harder in the coming highseason to crack down on drugs and drunken drivers and thats also mean their own nationalities so it will be no difference if you farang or Thai so if you are affected on drugs or alcohol when driving it will probably lead to a detaining and is it worth it?

Pls care for other humans and avoid driving if you become affected by alcohol or some medicines.

Whish you all a great time in LOS

    Regards

  13. Last year I've got an O multiple entry visa in the Thai consulate of my home town. The only thingh I had to show was my Thai marriage certificate, 2 day's later I could pick it up. That I'm 59 years old and already 33 year married was maybe the reason why it was so easy.

Its more easy if you have been married for some years I have use a non-o multiple for 5 years now

  14. 113 CC being enough power? For those slightly longer trips? I am a total novice when it come to mototbike power especially in the smaller engine sizes.

Also what about weight? I am 95 kilos would that be a problem for the g/f on this particular bike?

My longest trip took about 2 weeks.

Started in Chonburi and passed following cities..Kabinburi, Sakaeo,,Aranyaprathet. Buriram, Yasothon, Mukdahan,,Sakhon nakhon,,UdonThani, NongKhai and then I get back to chonburi by khonkaen and many villages and did a border run in Poipet and last day I was back in chonburi and alltogether I drove more than 3000 km and my Yamaha Mio runs without problem but if wasnt comfortable to my back and butt so i would like another seat for long journeys.

Normally I use my Mio for local trips and from Chonburi to Pattaya use to take an hour.

I dont make anykind of commercial to Yamaha but I do recommend the Mio its a very good easy driven motobike.

BTW the engine power id good enough for a 95 kilo heavy person...my weight is 92

  15. Is there even a 125cc Mio? I thought they were all 115cc(113cc) including Finos and Nouvos.

I bought mine more than a year ago used. It was over a year old with 4000km on the odometer when i got it.

It never gave me a single problem mechanically. It is my primary transportation around town. Occasionally I even take it all the way to Pattaya or Chonburi from Sriracha which is roughly 30-40 km away. Easy to ride too! Excellent scooter if you ask me!

and YAY this is my first post btw!! :o

The Mio and Fino and Nouevo have 113 CC but the new Nouevo exellent have 135 CC engine

  16. The g/f is after a motorcycle to tootle off to work and back. I am reluctant at this stage to buy a new one and I will register it in my name until such date as I feel happy enough to give her the log book.

    The alternatives are

    1) Yamaha Meo 125 cc 1 month old 29,000 Baht (Black, black and black)

2 Yamaha Meo 110 cc 7 month old 20,000 Baht. (Purple and snazzy)

OK, colours aside any opinions on these 2 bikes? Reliability or whatever. Also on the prices. Alternative ideas?

    Thanks.

    edit for log book

The yamaha mio is a good choice,,I have mine now for 4 years and drove 30.000 km and its still runs very well and the fuel consumption is less than 0.25 litre per 10 km.

  17. I hit my first treatment center at 20 as well as my first AA meeting. I managed to get sober at twenty-five with AA and stay that way for two years, but ended up in a bar drinking again one day without really knowing how I got there. I went to Wat Thamkrabok, a Thai treatment center, where I not only gave up alcohol, but I also gave up being an alcoholic. The urge to drink alcohol left me and I am now more than two years sober again.

I think that AA offers a great recovery program. Some people don't like the spiritual part of the program, but in my view it is this part of the program that is the most important. In my opinion many people become drunks or addicts because of a feeling of disconnection from the spiritual side of things and they lose their way. This meaning and purpose in life seems really important to a comfortable recovery, but can be found in many ways not just in AA.

I no longer use AA but I will always be grateful for the help that program offered me in the early days. I have less time for the AA members who insist that only their way is valid, but I suppose it is necessary for them to think this way to remain sober - a continuation of the all or nothing attitude that many of us drunks are famous for.

Nice reply from you and i am glad that there are many ppl in this message board that quit drinking and use of narcotics and now can live an ordinary life in a good way.

I really honor all that are able to stay away because there is always a big risk to fall back even if you been sober for 10-20 years.

There is something we use to call Post abstinence's and it can occur even after long time as sober and its a strange feeling that feels very uncomfortable and you may need to see a doc in some cases.

It was just in this country I was able to stop whit both alcohol and tobacco.

    Regards

  18. I am 13 years sober in AA. I almost died from my crack cocaine and heroin addiction. AA saved my life. In my opinion, AA is definitely not the only way to stay sober or get sober. There are a myriad of paths that lead to the freedom of recovery, release from addiction. In my humble opinion, AA is accessible to many, so why not give it a try? My experience is that AA led me from hel_l to relative heaven and it's the most fun I've ever had. That said, I agree with Garro in that it seems to be a mysterious spiritual sort of thing that leads me, not just membership in a specific organization.

13 years is great so i really honor you especially to get out of heroin and such heavy narcotic addicts and i do believe that you are able to help other whit good advices.

I am glad that you found AA and my opinion is that AA is a good advice for the first step out of the hel_l.

What we can do to help others that make the first step out is to honor them for every day they stay away from drinking or a use of narcotics.

Anyway the first months as sober is a critical time and I fall back after just 3 months just to test if i was able to stay away and i did for a week and just foolish myself that i was able to handle my consumption of alcohol.

Nice to get a replie from you and others in this topic.

    Regards!
