At most embassies and consulates it only takes few days to get a visa. Where are you at now?

I was suggesting you get a single entry non-o visa not a tourist visa. Then you could apply for the one year extension during the last 30 day of that entry.

You cannot get the 30 day extension at the airport. You have to apply at a immigration office.

Thanks UbonJoe, I went ahead and bit the bullet and sent off for a Non-Immigrant Visa Category “O” (Multiple entries) through the Thai Embassy Wash DC. I should have just enough time to get it before I travel from MCO-BKK on the 6th of Oct.

Hope to see you in Ubon shortly!

  2. I am arriving the 10th of Oct with "No VISA." I should be good for 30 days, then I will run to Savannakhet Multi-O and Lao visa on my retirement. My wife has set up a trip outside Thailand for 7 days starting the 17th of Nov. Should I wait do a border run to Laos, good for 15 days then do the Savannakhet Multi-O and Lao visa trip. Last time I did the Savannakhet Multi-O and Lao visa after 30 days went to Thai Immigration and was told I needed 60 days to apply for the extension. Your thoughts please-Thank You!!

  3. Phil,

You have not left yet? Being too old is part of your "MINDSET-YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD!" I am 69 (70 in Dec), I live in Ubon Ratchathani for six months in a house that my Thai wife help build when I was 65 on 17 rai and spend the other back in the United States (RVing). We hub out of Ubon and travel throughout SE Asia-Spent New Year at Hong Kong 2015-2016. Jump in there and spend 6 months and see how it feels. Have "FUN!" Good Luck in your endeavor

  4. Just as a follow up, went to Vientiane and got my Non-Immigrant O visa-good for 90 days (One entry-Would not give me multiple). I had to refill out the Visa application due to a new form. Otherwise very uneventful. Next to Amphoe Phibun Mangsahan for my extension and multiple entry. Thanks to all! wai2.gif

The immigration office is no longer in Phibun. They have moved to a new office in Sirindhorn. See here for info. Ubon Ratchaithani Immigration Office Has Moved To Sirindhorn

    Hey ubonjoe,

Finally found time to go over and obtain a non immigrant "O" visa at Sirindhorn next week. Are their any forms I may fill out (online) and take with me? Appreciate any info-Thanks.

    Dan

You wont get a Non Immigrant O Visa at Sirindhorn Immigration.

You can apply for a 12 month extension of your permision to stay.

    You need a TM7 form.

  6. Appointment went well, Teeth examined, x-rays, I had two filling (with no novocaine)-Total 700 Baht (approx. $20 USD). She used a new filling cement with "No Mercury." So far very happy with the results. Crown tomorrow at 6:30PM (18:30 Local). More later. wai2.gif

First appointment for the crown was the drilling and mold of the replacement crown (with novocaine)-Took approx 1 hour. Total Baht 3,000. One week later, second appointment for crown placement went very well. Very surprise that they got the permanent crown back in one week after ordered. In the US would have taken two weeks plus! Took about 30 minutes to place on the tooth. Total 3,000 Baht. Total Paid with the above fillings 6,700 Baht (Approx: $189.61 USD at todays rate), which I call "Very Reasonable!" In the US the whole procedure would have cost well over $1,000 USD. Made a 6 month checkup appointment for Oct. 2016-"Very Satisfied." wai2.gif

That is about the normal cost in Ubon. Somewhere between 5,000 and 7,000 baht. I am surprised that you only had two visits. It is some time since I had a crown done but it usually has taken 4-5 visits with a week between each visit. On each visit, they take out the temporary filling (not a crown) and thoroughly clean out the cavity right into the root canal. I think this is because with my crowns they have make sure to clean out the root canal thoroughly to prevent later infection. Anyway, well done. I think your dentist sounds more modern than mine.

The reason their were only two visits was I did not have a root canal-only a crown placement due to a chip and small hole in my upper right side, 4 to the back from the front tooth! Thank you your constructive reply.wai2.gif

  8. The OP indulges in a distortion.

It is very true that only a tiny minority of global Muslims are active terrorists.

But a shockingly high percentage of global Muslims support outrageous barbaric practices, such as:

Death penalty for apostasy (leaving Islam)

    Honor killings for adultery

    Murdering people for being gay

The levels vary nation by nation.

Thailand's Muslims do have relatively moderate views and that's great. North American Muslims are unusually moderate. On the other hand, many majority Muslim nations have populations that favor death for apostasy overwhelmingly. So -- it's not productive to pretend there isn't a problem with this on a global level.

The OP tries to just brush it under the rug. Thus, a fail.

It's not Islamophobic to show support for the minority of global Muslims who are active now to REFORM their fellow religionists, globally. They're almost always in the west because if they were living in Islamic dominated states, their lives would be in danger.

As far as interacting with Thai Muslims as people, I'd say approach them as individual human beings and don't make assumptions about them, either way. But that's not the same thing as not being aware of this GLOBAL issue.

None and I want to keep it that way. Why? well the above reasons tell some of the story. Their treatment of women is terrible. They so seldom come forward and condemn the radical Muslims. They seem to be biding their time while producing large numbers of children. They will control many countries via this method in the next 50 to 100 years.

"NONE"-All above and more. They practice a very "Unforgiving Religion!"

  9. How come no novocaine? Was it not necessary? Did they not have it?

Not sure what they have, but she said it would take awhile (Approx 2 hours) to deaden the area and it is not good for your health. So I was in a little pain for approx. two minutes. I told her it was pain, she said you have sensitive teeth. Anyway, that part is over. Crown tomorrow and of course they will deaden that area!! More later. wai2.gif

Until I came to live in Ubon 22 years ago I had never had novocaine or any other injection for pain relief when getting fillings. And believe me my teeth are not in good shape. Anyway, once in Ubon, they give me the old pain relief injection nearly every time, which annoys me, as for several hours later my gums are all numb.

What I am most interested in is how one can get a crown done in just one day. I have had about eight crowns done in Ubon, and each one takes 4-5 weeks for competition. The old filling is drilled out and a temporary filling put in. Then it takes another two visits a week apart, to thoroughly clean the old tooth root before a temporary crown is put on. Then on the second to last visit, this temporary crown is taken off, a mould is applied to get the new crown shape. This mould has to be sent to Bangkok to get a dental technician to make the permanent crown. On the final visit the permanent crown is glued and grinded down to fit one's teeth.

A crown in one day in Ubon. That is indeed very quick. I didn't know they made them here.

    Hey Mike,

You are right, The crown process will start tomorrow and I get a plastic Temp with the permanent crown one week later. My last crown took a total of two weeks in Orlando, FL. That is what I have been told. More later as I get this done. Thanks..
