Bit late but I would highly recommend Baan Keang Chol, a small family run hotel on U-Thong road on the island/historical park. Have stayed there for the last 3 years, they treat us like family. The decking and dining area looks out over the Chao Phraya river across to Wat Phutthaisawan, and the owner and his son go out of their way to make your stay perfect

As is it dried the further into November you go? I know nothings guaranteed though...
-
As above, is October much different from November in Pattaya? Am looking to book 2 or 3 weeks and prices are 800bht cheaper in the hotel we stay in per night, for October instead of November?
Whys Oct so much cheaper?

Is being a DJ forbidden for foreigners?
No idea, I assumed it was classed as working?

As above, been a frequent party goer in Pattaya for several years now and noticed how many bars/clubs had western (UK) dj’s working on them, a few nights a week. How are these guys doing this?

Since reading up more, Koh Klet Kaeo, is also know as 'Monkey Island' and 'Koh Ped'. It looks very close, is there much to do there, other than being mobbed my the monkeys? How long a boat trip is it anyone?

The opportunity to make his life!
Rent a bigger motorcycle and find a sexy girl with short shorts to drive him around.
Seriously, he will thank you until the day he is gone.
Thats my worry!! ????

we are due out in november this year with my rather spritely dad, who's 80. He's never been before ????
We plan a fair bit of sight seeing during the daytime, the usual Sanctuary of Truth, Big Buddha hill, floating market, Jomtien, maybe Nong Nooch park. When i usually visit, we (me and my partner or a male friend) get a moped for the 2 weeks, but obviously I wont be dragging him around on the back of a bike. What other options do we have? Private baht bus each time and negotiate? Taxi with a meter? Or is there another way?
Locally we'll use baht bus routes, Kiss Food down 2nd road to Terminal 21 etc, along Beach Road but asking for the more 'out of town' places?

Thanks all for the island advice, and for the grammar lessons too, can't belive I've got 40 years through my life without being pulled up before......
Will take a look at Koh Chang, but all boat journeys look 4-5 Km at least, so think we will struggle even with that
EDIT: What about Koh Klet Kaeo, Tao Mo Island, Ko Raet or Samae San Island? (spellings taken from Google maps, so may not be correct) I zoomed in to the coastline on Google maps and scanned around, they all look very close, maybe 500m maximum from the mainland? Or are they islands not open to visitors?

Thanks all, quick update, the old boy is going in for an MOT at the doctors this week just to make sure he's OK to travel, then I'll be back no doubt with more questions
Thanks again everyone, cant wait to see his face the first time we venture down LK Metro!! ????

Samet has a new ferry. 150 baht. 10 mins
10 minutes? I visited there about 12 years ago and went on a rickety old wooden boat and it felt like it took forever (was probably only 30 or 45 minutes). It scared me rigid, hence wanting an island as close to mainland as possible
is the 10 minute transfer a speedboat?
-
Me and my partner are not the greatest fans of the sea or boats, but feel we are missing out by not seeing some of the smaller, quieter islands. We’d like to try a short boat trip to an island though, what island is closest to the mainland please, that we’d have to get a boat to?
We usually base base ourselves in Pattaya but happy to travel. I’ve done koh samet before but to be honest that was a bit too far (from what I can remember)

Earlier this year I celebrated his 80th birthday with him. The evening culminated in a visit to a notorious Walking Street gogo. What goes on in a gogo, stays in a gogo but I can assure you that he put just about everyone else in there to shame.
You're never too old.
I have a feeling thats what my father will be like too...... in fact i know he will haha

December and January. Sometimes into first half of February but not always Just started cooling off this week.
Don't fail to have him get travel insurance. This one will cover older people

as we've just got back, and have to sort him a passport etc we were thinking between early May and November next year, if any of those months are cooler than others?

That's the point of course.
But as you described him he is mentally and physically fit to do and enjoy the trip.
Of course you should make the trip as comfortable as budget allows.Either business class flight and/or consider flying with the Arabs (6 + 6 hours better to my opinion). Local long distance in taxi/limousine.
If flying economy:
at arrival he is entitled to use the fast track at the airport.
Otherwise pay and book the AOT fast track service for all of you (about 1200 per person).
Depending on any medication?
Travel health insurance is a must.
Thanks KhunBENQ, was going to ask about the fast track service at BKK, as took about 90 mins to get through 4 weeks ago on arrival ???? Where is that booked via please?
He has meds for a muscle condition but just pain relief, thats all. I'll take a look at the travel insurance link Sheryl kindly shared in next post

Since he wants to come then certainly, go for it. try to make it during the cool season, though, will be much easier on him that way.
Thanks Sheryl, when is cool season? We've just got back last week and it seemed hotter than normal, even in Central Thailand the locals were saying its hotter than usual

If he is in good health, why not?
Thats what i'm thinking, hes worked hard all his life and doesnt holiday now, other than a weekend in bournemouth with all the other oldies... I want him to see what Thailand is like, he madness, the noise, the food and the people. He's a bit deaf but thats probably an advantage in parts of Thailand ????

Me and my partner visit Thaialnd every year, to party in Pattaya and relax in other areas, such as Buriram, Ayutthaya and Chaing Mai. My father (who's a young and spritely 80 year old, still works as a gardener in our local village, dog walks etc) keeps asking what its like, why do we love the place so much etc. He said he'd jump at the chance to see it, as he worked with a lot of Thais in the Middle East in the 70's and 80's.
Would the flight be too much for him? Or the heat/humidity? I know everyones different, but wanted some opinions on taking an elderly relative away for 2 weeks to see what we love
-
Git a week in ayutthaya sightseeing and using it as a base for trips out, mentioned to our Thai host about an evening in town (Soi 1 or Grand Market area) and he as good as put us off saying lots of trouble from Thais, Burmese and Cambodians?
I assumed it’d just hippy back-packers and those interested in temples having a few beers?
Anyone on here experienced any of the (limited) nightlife in Ayutthaya?
-
Am due out next week and meeting an old friend in town, who loves a chat and to swap stories of travels, so any recommendations of cafes/bars/beer bars where theres a few westerners who can hold their own in a conversation? Going to avoid the usual 'uggs' and grunts from the shirtless neanderthals in Walking Street at 2am, any where a bit more 'refined'? (I know, 'refined' and Pattaya very rarely in the same sentence) ????

Any recommendations guys?

Anywhere in Pattaya to get wording printed (or better still, machine sewn onto) onto a couple of t shirts please? English speaking preferred. Wheres best guys?

Just stumlbed across this thread guys, we always stay in a large hotle in the centre of Pattaya for 2 weeks every year, but have seen a nice condo next to it that looks ideal on AirB&B. Is it a big 'no no'? Or would any of you book it?
Spoke to a lot of guys last November and half of them were booked through airB&B?
