  1. I thought I'd asked already, but cant find it so i may not of (too many questions asked recently by myself), what should i expect to pay for a taxi for 2 from BFV into Buriram centre please?   Hotel has said they do it for 900 baht, wasnt sure if its a lot?

I'm not penny pinching, but dont fancy squashing on a packed minivan/bus either, i only pay 1200 baht from BKK to Patts last year....

    Thanks in advance all

Should be OK. The rainy season seems to be finishing here and it will get less humid next month - I hope!

Thanks emilymat, i was there last Septmeber and it was hot, with a few odd days of heavy rain.  The usual 2 hour downpour, knee deep floods then bone dry again 2 hours later

  3. Afternoon all

We are due in Ayutthaya next weekend for 4 nights and thinking of visiting Lopburi for a day to see/photo/get mugged by the monkeys, whats the best way to get there from Ayutthaya please?  We are staying in Ayutthaya on U-Thong road, was thinking of the train, never used a train before in thailand so will be an experience

Any things to look out for, and to do or not do in Lopburi?

  4. We land in BKK next Sunday about 3pm and will be wanting a taxi into Ayutthaya for 2 people plus cases, wheres best to get a taxi from please? And what should we expect to pay?  Only even gone from BKK to Pattaya on previous trips and used a well known company, so any pointers on a taxi to Ayutthaya would be great

    Cheers in advance

  5. As above, wondering if there is any decent rooftop bars in town in case I want a slightly posher/more sophisticated drink before hitting the bars and walking street. Can I express a preference of none/very few Russians there?

  6. Last September we used a taxi guy on a soi just off 2nd Road (heading in land) and the driver took us to Don Muang to pick up a friend, then on to Ayutthaya in a small mini van,  Driver was clearly off his tits on something, and by the time we arrived, the 3 of us passengers were a bag of nerves.

There was a "Superrich" in Central World about a year ago (last seen).

It was near the elevator. Don't remember the floor.

    But don't be fooled.

The rates were less than impressing. Maybe a "fake" Superrich.

And the changers in Pattaya like TT come very close to Superrich in Bangkok.

It's usually in the 5 to 10 Satang range per Dollar/Euro.

One booth in Soi Diana tends to lead the pack by 5 Satang.

(but that's openly "on the street")

    It's this one:

    https://goo.gl/maps/4ov9SizgGPM2

But as written it might be worth to negotiate with a manager for real big sums to squeeze out a few Satang.

I am certain that TT has at least one place where you can go inside.

Maybe someone can help out where that is.

Before walking around check todays rates here:

    https://daytodaydata.net/

    Unfortunately some missing like TT.

Do you have big Euro notes (100 and up)?

Thanks KhunBENQ, I'm staying in Areca Lodge next month for 10 nights and was wondering on a good exchange, so its a 2 minute walk for me... perfect!

I travel by air , taxi and bus to and around Issan for all the major festivals and have a great time. I'll be going to Surin for the elephant festival this year. Although hotels maybe in short supply dont be fussy and you'll be fine. Although not in Issan I can commend the Monkey feast in Loburi. To get information about regional festivals you need to research deeper than the online TAT but their offices are usually very good. Happy trails...BTW ..try to arrive at least a day early..

Thanks manic, we are flying into Buriram airport on the Friday, and staying on the outskirts of buriram in Cresco (near the football ground I think) for 5 days.  Im planing to hire a moped/scooter to travel to Surin for the festival, for either the Saturday or both days.  I've survived Pattaya many times on moped so know what to expect on the roads :)

The biggest problem with Brits arriving in the tropics is sunburn.

I've seen these guys 'n gals with blisters on their blisters!

If you bring anything, buy a large tube or plastic bottle of SPF 50.

Do not put it in your 'carry on' baggage or security will take it out.

Be 'sunwise' and slap it on and put it on (wide brim hat).  Don't lay on the beach all day!

Likewise with tropical strength insect repellent.

Got burnt to pieces once 10 years ago, travelling from Pattaya to BKK in the back of a pick up truck (true Thai style) to see Man City play (Not a football fan, but my friend was). Wasnt even sunny, got there and was as pink as a lobster

IME tourists do seem to get bitten more-often than us long-term expats, or perhaps we build-up more immunity to the bites, over time ?  I've also heard (may not be true) that they can smell new-arrivals !  Shower frequently !

I don't think any of your destinations are particularly prone to mossies, do be aware of when they tend to fly (early-morning & early-evening), cover-up with long-trousers & socks & long-sleeve tops, use the repellents, keep fly-screens/doors closed, use the ceiling-fan in your room (IME they prefer still air), if you sit at a table then make sure there's a draft or breeze under the table.

Were you planning anything jungly, when up in Pai, trekking or rafting where you might encounter more of the wild-life ?

    Hi Ricardo

Not, just a walk around the main part and a few scenic coffee shops, certainly wont be trekking or rafting

Depending upon how you are trying to use this phrase, for what purpose, the translation might change...

you could go to the national anthem - kon Thai luk Sngoopb - - Thai people love peace.. if you are just trying to say that you like a peaceful life, - - chorbp sngoopb - - would work...

    sorry for poor transliteration..

Sorry i should of said, its for a tattoo

  12. Thanks all, will have a moped for sightseeing during the days just at night after a few beers just want to make sure we are not walking 1.5 miles back to Cresco in the pitch black

any advice on getting from buri ram airport to our hotel please? Can I pre book with buri ram taxi? Or will there be taxis at the airport?

  13. Guys

Just doing a bit of planning and noticed the Cresco is not just a walk into town, and we do like our nights out, so would you advise changing to a more centrally located hotel, one where we can walk straight into the town/restaurants/bars etc during the day and at night?

  14. Am looking to rent a pick-up/4x4/Hilux type in Chang Mai in November for a couple of days to drive up to Pai (and stop off at places along the way), wheres best to rent from please?  Also, anything in particular I should look for regarding insurance etc?

I've navigated Pattaya on scooter many times so am confident on Thai roads

  15. Thanks all, after an afternoon chat with the gf we've decided to stay for 9 nights in ChangMai itself, just off Loh Kroh Road (for the nightlife) and do more day trips out, and hire a bike too (Ill start a new post for that)

You could also book a car and driver.  That will also allow you to stop along the way at some nice / interesting places.  (Or just rent a car and drive yourself of course.)   Car and driver will be something like 3500 Baht including fuel.

    Thanks Winnie

Hows best/safest to find a driver in Chang Mai for the Pai trip?  and is the 3500 one way I'm guessing?

  17. We are coming to Thailand in November and our first 4 nights are in Ayutthaya, so will be wating a taxi for 2 people to get us there. Is it better to get one at the airport, or pre-book?  Ive done Thailand a lot as a younger guy but always to Pattaya and used a local guy from there, just wondering our best option for getting to Ayutthaya?  Think we land in BKK on a Sunday about 4pm

    Thanks all

1.only someone who has no clue at all would FLY to Buriram-an airport (of course yet another old USAF-airbase) thats 60/70 kms away from town without proper transpo.

2.what anyone forgets who is glued to their screens etc; in dec. its ,yes, even in TH, WINTER=cold season, that leads often to a thing named FOG or MIST early morning (does not happen daily, but esp. is prone in the north), which I also experienced my last flite home from there-with CNX airport a refugee camp (my flite was planned for 10.30 or so) as only by that time planes were coming from BKK-oh, sure, they got it all on schedule late afternoon-but in your case.......

Thats what one gets if anyone thinks he can play for travel-agent without any due training for it.

    1. I havent said I wont be looking into or asking about transfers from the airport yet, and I thought it was about 30Km away, not 70?  If someone can confirm, it'd be great.

    2. Our flights into, and out of Buriram are in the afternoon, so I'll hope the mist has cleared

    3. I'm certainly not playing travel agent at all, which is the reason I'm asking on this forum, for advice, from locals and experts.  So far, everyones been great.

To all the other Buriram/Isaan people, am I really clueless to be travelling to Buriram i November for a 5 night break?
