Another topic altogether, but depending on budget, my choice of base would be a good 4 star around the Night Bazaar or close to the moat on the eastern side of the old city.

Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Thanks Paul, will be pestering the local forum on here about Chang Mai no doubt.  We cant wait, bought my english gf last year to BKK, Ayutthaya and Pattaya (Yes, i know............ was visiting an ex-pat friend who lives there), and she loved it, even Pattaya. This year want to see other parts of the country too, hence Buriram and Chang Mai

I am not sure whether I get your previous post right?

(Most) all domestic flights can be booked oneway without extra cost.

You have no cost advantage on booking a return flight.

So anytime when coming from Buriram you can fly from DMK to CNX oneway and with another airline back to BKK the following week.

AirAsia is "OK", but there are better (like Bangkok Airways) and there are worse (like NokAir).

Sorry KhunBENQ, only just woke up in the UK.  Hadnt even dawned on me to book 2 x 1 way flights... Khup

I blame a week of night shifts for me missing that one....

    thanks again

  3. me and my gf are visitnig thailand in November, and going to Pattaya, Buriram/Surin and Chang Mai/Pai, will we need any injections in the UK before we travel?

She suffers a lot if she gets bitten by mosquitos, even in european countries, should we visit the doctors over here before we fly?

We'e bought a thai brand repellant online (we used it in Ayutthaya last year, was given it by the hotel staff) and it worked a treat, but wasnt sure as we are venturing further north, and also into Isaan too?

  4. Thanks everyone, we've gone for the Cresco in the end after reading the reviews on it, we cant wait.

As a side note, best place to rent a scooter from in Buriram for 5 days please? (We'll be riding to Surin the first full day we are there), Im a rider in the UK and have survived 6 trips to Pattaya riding too, so have some experience of Thais on the road :)

  5. Thanks everyone, good few options there.  Only reason I chose DMK as we are flying into DMK a week before from Buriram, so assumed easier to stay in DMK and get a flight to Chang ai from DMK.

We could go from DMK to Suvarnabhumi and fly from there to Chang Mai, and back the morning of our flight.

I'll have a look, as was only using AirAsia website as was told the better carrier for internal flights...

Cheers all.. Next on my list is decinig where in Chang Mai to stay, what part of the city

  6. I'm coming to Thailand in November with my English girlfriend and we're planning 8 or 9 days in Chang mai, well, we were until I saw Pai. It looks stunning, so we'd love 3 or 4 days there but my gf isn't a fan of buses or coaches, what's the best alternative way to get there please?

And any recommendations on places to stay there and things to see? We'd rather a nice hotel than a cheaper hostel type place?

  7. As above, had planned on 4 or 5 nights in Buriram (as per my other thread about hotels), with a view of going to Surin for a day or 2 to the elephant festival in November.  Searched on here and found another thread asking to compare

"Buriram or Udon Thani for night life?"     and found a few had said that Buriram wasnt as nice as it could be, with one poster saying its full of nutcases, now i'm wondering whether Surin would be a better choice?

Its just going to be me and my English girlfriend so we wont have any Thai with us to translate or show us around

  8. Me and my english GF will be flying into Buriram in November to go to the Surin elephant festival over the weekend of 18th/19th, any recommendations of hotels in Buriram please?  And I'm assuming all of them will be fairly close to the airport?

Also open to suggestions of best way to travel from Buriram to Surin both days for the festival

  9. I might of asked this before, but cant find the post. I did ask about from LHR to BKK and all booked, so now its internal flight time.  Am looking to book 2 internal flights in November, from BKK to Buriram (to go to Surin to the elephant festival) and then from BKK to Chang Mai

Any recommendations for best airlines?   And is it best to book via normal methods (I use Skyscanner website).  Im assuming you can pay extra for extra weight/baggage allowance?

    Thanks all (again....)

  10. Me and my english gf and visiting Thialand again in November for 4 weeks, and plan 2 (or 3) of them in Isaan, to see the other side of the country.  What areas would you recommend, and why please?  Am thinking of Surin on 18th/19th Nov for the elephant festival, but open to suggestions on other regions to visit, and what to see.  We havent got a wish list as such, just to see more of the place than the neon lights of BKK and Pattaya

    Where would you suggest please?

Air asia is the better option for sure. The NCA bus from bkk is good as well.

Thanks gh, gf had a bad experience on a coach in the UK as a youngster, so isnt a fan of bus/coach travel in the UK, let alone in Thailand! We got a taxi last year from BKK to Ayutthaya and the driver was either beyond tired, or on something and she was a bag of nerves the whole way!   Kind of limits our travelling around LOS, am hoping shes a bit better away from the 3 and 4 lanes of motorway and taxis are a little slower once away from the main cities?

why are u going to Issan? I prefer the northwest and the north on the Laos/Thai border ( separated only by the Mekong) and the South

although i do admit Issan has friendly people, it's my least favorite part of Thailand and i travel around a lot by car.

Nov is a fine time to travel, mostly good weather and never have to book hotels in advance.

Chose Isaan as we both want to see more rural thailand, the 'unspoilt' parts.  Ive done Pattaya and BKK as a single guy years ago, and last September returned with my gf (shes english too, not Thai) and she loved the people, food, everything.  I decided on Isaan from what I'd read and seen online, have never visited so it is o our list.  We want to go to Surin elephant festival in November

How does North/NW Thailand differ from Isaan in your opinion?  Genuine question BTW, as we are there for 4 weeks and shes looking at Chang Mai too

  13. Thanks KhunBENQ, i did read somewhere it was mid November but couldnt find the page again.  We will probably being flying into Buriram from BKK, staying in either Buriram for 4 days and travelling to the festival, or staying in Surin for the duration, any recommendations?

Also, is there a better internal airline, seen flights with both Nok and Air Asia, again, am after peoples preferences

Rainy season usually over. Temperatures going down.

But winter high season not started yet (mid-season).

Few Europeans make holidays at this month, all saving their days for Christmas.

These are experiences from the past.

I am uncertain whether nowadays anything like an off-season/mid-season exists with the new mass tourist influx from China, India etc.?

Thats great, many thanks. Have booked our flights now and doing 4 weeks from 5 Nov, so will miss the cremation and mayhem that comes with it.  Are going to do a few days in Ayutthaya, then back to BKK and fly to Isaan (any recommendations on best/better airport to fly into?) and see some of the region from about 10th/12th November onwards

Monkeys are nasty. Many people have been attacked. Be super careful!

Thanks Craig, thats what I've already told the missus but she's adamant she wants to see monkeys at some point this trip, and I guess Id rather one steal my food and hat than pay to have a drugged up one in a Man Utd football shirt plonked on my lap at some tourist attraction like Nong Nooch.  I think we've just decided on 3 nights in Ayutthaya with a day trip up to lopburi just to see the monkeys.  Next step for us is planning 2 1/2 weeks in either Isaan or Chang Mai, or both!

Big monkey temple in Hua Hin.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

Thanks MDave, had a quick look it looks a bit like Lopburi?   I'm struggling to plan our 4 weeks in Nov/Dec, will be returning to Ayutthaya for a couple of days so could go on to lopburi if its similar (a place occupied by monkeys, rather than a sanctury), and try and not get robbed by the monkeys, seeing as we'd be half way there from BKK anyway?

  17. Ive been several times before, early March, June and September and all seemed pretty quiet (both 10 years ago and last September too), whats it like in Nov and 1st week of December?  Much different?  Am planning a trip back this year and want a few days partying, but wasnt sure if its busier/quieter/warmer or wetter?
