This article raised important issues and drowned it in nonsense PC lingo

Well stated.  It has flooded here for thousands of years.  We have climate change, but it's been doing that since the earth began. I agree that the rich children have more advantages, but there was no need to segregate and use the PC machine as a divider.

Sadly for the poor it's cheaper here for us here because of the 'rich' controlling the cost.  Just look at the minimum wage.  If they implemented a Baht 3600/day minimum here, just think what the prices would be.

There's usually a way to end inequality. It's called an uprising. Thais seem incapable of it, so why bother writing articles.

I just hope I'm not here if/when it happens.  Just look at the violence between the Red & Yellows.

I don't think I would be allowed back into Vietnam unless I went for the Multi entry there which is pricey.

You really confuse me with this statement.  You can go to the Vietnam, but need to a few days before your flight apply as follows:

To obtain Vietnam Visa On Arrival, travelers just need to finish the following simple steps:

    • Go online: www.vietnamvisa.govt.vn
    • Submit application form online via our secured network to receive the Approval letter.
    • Get Visa Stamp when arriving Vietnam International Airports ( Ha Noi/ Da Nang/ Ho Chi Minh city/ Nha Trang ).

The line at the VOA booth can be quite long and require more than an hour to get your 'Stamp' (it's not a stamp, it's a visa Sticker that takes up the whole page). You get the entry stamp after the sticker. There is no Visa Exempt for us.

The requirements at the Vietnam Thai Consulate are similar to Savannakhet, except your wife must write a letter in Thai requesting that they issue you a visa.

it agreed to accept for consideration an accusation from the Election Commission (EC) that a close aide of his made a 1,000 baht donation at a funeral,

You've got to be kidding.  My wife's niece passes out 300-500 baht to each & everyone in the village to vote for Pheu Thai at every election. Heaven forbid their candidate doesn't win.  She'd be in big trouble. (a village in Isaan)

  4. Well, I'm not going to read 9 pages of comments and I doubt few of you will.  But, just to let you know, one of the things that made paper bags so unpopular was the proliferation of the small house roaches.  They love the glue used to seal the bottoms of the paper bags and they would lay their eggs in them.  So, don't keep your paper bags around too long or store them below the kitchen cabinet...  I'll just be buying plastic trash bags and carrying my groceries, etc in them.

For some bizarre reason the Brits seem to prefer the serial liar against the decent man.

Mankind has been plagued by this since the beginning when the weak guy stayed around the campfire and helped the women around the caves.  How dare a hunter and farmer become a politician.  So you can pretty much assume your decent man has told a few lies, too, and promises things he has no intention or way to provide.

I'm talking about all politicians. Who you talking about anyway? ????

In his case I can really see this happening

There is even a bar girl I have in mind, the very caring Lek at Vianni's in Patpong ????

But seriously .. cmon I need tips..

Patpong??? But seriously .. cmon ....  It's the only place I've ever been pick pocketed and it was in a bar where I had a good reputation.  I've never gone back and highly recommend you don't expose him to that trash pit.

There are some great places near Kanchanaburi Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Chang Mai or Chang Rai. Many places to experience real Thai, but you won't find it at Patpong.

Not every area of Thailand is as casual, friendly, or safe as the Udon Thani area of Thailand.

Stepping over cattle droppings everyday to feel safe and secure is not for everyone...????

I live in SW Pathum Thani, have lived in Bangkok (NW, just North of Central World, Asoke, near Ramkhamhaeng University) and I've always felt saver here than in Houston, Las Vegas or New Orleans, which are a few of the other places I've lived.

Many world over are aware of drones having camera systems onboard and in Thailand at least, it could get you in hot water especially if it is not registered as such before hand.

If I were you, I'd be inclined to check with relevant authorities before hand and forget chat forums.

    Wise advice.

Never miss an chance  to attempt to belittle Thai people. In a forum where you feel safe that a Thai wouldn't likely have an opportunity to respond.

Khun Suradit69, don't be too hard on Smith.  I'm pretty sure I know him and he is not a Thai basher (at all, normally). It may be his wife and family that uses the book-bank term. Who knows, just don't get too upset about such a trivial comment.

AAArdvark: It doesn't happen to me too much anymore, but there was a time when, if I didn't update my book at least once every month they bank would only print a summary of my transactions for the period in which I had not updated. As above, I had to go to the bank and ask for a print of each transaction. PITA, but it made a lot of sense. I didn't have to get a new bank book every 6 months that way.

    Cheers to both of you!!

  10. Hardest thing I had to used to were the motor bikes swarming around on either side of the car. I only drive on my 90 day border bounce. It takes some extra care. I think when riding a  bike a person has better spacial awareness that will not be there when you drive a car. So my advice, be especially aware of the left side of the car, especially when making a left turn or changing lanes.

Be careful! Have a safe trip!! Good luck.

  11. I am not surprised. I've been in Pathum Thani since 2005 and no visit is ever the same. Because of that, I've never tried to get a marriage extension. I've always gotten a Non O ME from a neighboring country and traveled as necessary at least every 90 days, which was easy when I was working. Now, it's a day trip to Phu nam ron. I enjoy the freedom, the drive (I rent a car) and scenery.

I really appreciate your report. I was going to ask for a 30 extension for my last border bounce, but think I'll just make the trip to Laos instead.

    Cheers, James
