Mlkik above mentions Doctor today.  Can you give me contact details, as I have tried to search for this and no response.  I live near London so travel to Edgeware road would not be a problem.

Only same day Covid test I have found was a clinic near oxford St and wanted £500 for test and no mention of FTF cert.

is there a time limit on the CoE?  I am thinking of travel in early Jan 2020, but would like to get things moving before everything shuts down for Christmas.

Having some trouble with medical insurance since I am 76 yrs old and some I have looked at have a limit of 75 yrs.  I am not too bothered about the actual policy, just want to minimum to get back into Thailand.

When applying for a new UK passport in Thailand, you are allowed to retain the old passport. You send a complete copy of your old passport (including blank pages) instead. You are warned, however, that you cannot use the old passport for travel after applying for the new passport. The old passport is electronically cancelled in the UK's system.

Surely it is only cancelled when the new passport is issued ,not on application? I managed to use my old passport after applying ,to return from Bangkok to Udon and then use it again the folowing week to fly from Udon to Bangkok.

Well that's good news, thanks. The school are telling me you need 2 blank pages, but it's not clear whether they mean 2 pages that are blank or just 2 pages' worth of space.

Ideally I would extend first anyway - that way I get an extra 30 days to travel around before being tied down to somewhere near the school. Is that risky, or can I be sure there would still be space for whatever stamps and stickers they put in when the TV is converted?

I think you have to send your old passport off as soon as you've applied for a new one (the passport office have previously told me they don't really do anything with the application until they receive the old passport, so I think that's effectively when the clock starts). Unless I've misunderstood something, it seems safer to wait until I've got the first 90 days on the ed visa.

Yeah, I couldn't get it renewed earlier in the year for exactly that reason. Do you have to be resident here to apply via Trendy Building, and do you know if it's any faster than doing it online? Also, did they take your old passport when you made the application, or did they let you hang on to it until the new one was

The British Embassy do not accept passport applications or visa applications. These are all now handled at Trendy building on soi 13 Sukumvit road.

You do not have to be a a pemanant resident here ,just staying here . If you are here then it is your only option for getting a new passport in Thailand ,unless you do it on line and have it sent to your UK address.

They did not keep my passport but cut the corner off when I returned the following weeknto pick it up.

Being allowed to home quarantine would solve my problem - and that of thousands of others who would normally visit their wives and/or families on a regular basis.

I opologise for the following if it offends but ...........

I am not married but I live with my girlfriend full time in Thailand. I moved lock stock to Thailand and for some reason some people think just because they are married they deserve different treatment to us who are not.

Well you were treated differently and were allowed back several months ago if you are married. However if you do not live in Thailand full time and only visit your wife then I do not see why you think you have a special entitlement to quarantene at home when even Thai nationals do not quarantene at home.

If you love her then bite the bullet like the rest of us who served there ASQ time.

  5. I am on my 5th day in ASQ and the COE is the easiest most pain free part of the process. As long as you meet all the requirements it will be isssued very quickly.

If you are near London then Doctor Today 181 Finchley road do a covid test and fit to fly certificate for 150 quid. I had my appointment at 17.15 and received my results at 13.30 next day.

I travelled fron Norwich as there was nowhere closer that did a quick turn around.

If an individual it’s not so bad, for me, my Thai partner and 5 year old son the cheapest ASQ Hotel I have been quoted is around £2000. On top of that travel from the North East of England to either Manchester or London with a stop over in a hotel depending on flight times, pre flight tests then 3 airfares. I wouldn’t receive much change out of £5000.

I am currently paying rent for a house in Pattaya, the owner has reduced the rent due to us not being there. Currently decided to ‘ride out the storm’ . The only issue is extending my Thai partners Visa month by month which I have managed to do quoting Exceptional Circumstances but no idea how long we continue doing so

I have spent about 4 grand in total. But had to get back as being apart from my mrs and my normal life was destroying me.

The free quarantene for Thai is rumoured to be coming to an end and they will have to pay for an ASQ the same as foreigners do now.

Because it's an overpriced jail time?
I dont imagine myself jailed in a room for 14 days and pay $1.500 for that...

It is what it is . It is the only way to get back in Thailand at the moment. When you have been apart from family for 10 months then for me I was prepared to pay ฿40.000 for my quarantene. It is a good modern hotel with good Thai food included in the price brought to your door 3 times a day.

2 covid tests included in the price which at a clinic are ฿6000 each a nurse coming to your door to check your temperature twice daily, free wifi and coffee making facilities in room.

A big enough room to allow exercise and a good sized TV.

I hardly think it is a rip off if you way up what you are getting. However for a holiday maker I agree it is not worth it but for an expat who is returning home to the one he loves and a place he calls home then for me I am happy to do the time as I know soon I will get my life back.

Having returned on a semi-commercial flight myself, I can confirm from speaking with Thai nationals on the flight that they did not need a pre-flight COVID-19 test.

On my flight, there were two people who later tested positive in quarantine – both Thais. I don't know whether they infected any others on the flight and I hope not, but fortunately I wasn't. If you look at the daily stats, you will see that the majority of people who test positive in quarantine are Thai nationals. Nearly all of them were likely infected before boarding the flight, since it is unlikely they because infected in quarantine. I wonder how many other passengers they may have infected, but it appears that these data are not publicly released. With the government's seeming disregard for the health of all passengers on these long flights, Thai and non-Thai alike, it seems absurd to me that Thai nationals are not required to test negative before boarding.

Note: Since 1 December, ALL passengers travelling on EVA and transiting TPE have been required to present a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours at check-in. If you want to fly on an airline where everyone has tested negative, including Thais, you should consider EVA.

I flew from Heathrow with Qatar on Saturday and upgraded to business class purely to keep myself as safe as possible.

I doubt I will ever fly business class again in my life however this time I am not concerned about the price as you can not put a price on your health especially after all the heartache and hoops I have had to jump through to get home after 10 months.

Fine , but the point is for how long should quarantine stay ?

The Thai administration know they have to open up at some stage next year.

Quarantene should stay as long as this virus is a threat to Thailand and the population. If it is only a holiday and you are not returning to your home in Thailand then why not just go elsewhere?

I would not fly in this pandemic for a holiday ,the only reson I flew was to return to my home in Thailand.

I don’t think it will encourage nonThai Nationals to travel on the same flight. Whilst it has been said due to the air conditioning on planes you can’t catch an infection, you will be mixing with them in the Deperture Lounge and the AC is not turned on normally when the aircraft is on the tarmac.

Qatar flights are much cheaper than Thai and now that there is talk of free quarantene for Thais to be stopped in the new year. Thai people will go for the cheapest option.

    Hi,

Could someone who has travelled to Thailand from the UK on a Thai airways flight recently tell me where they got the Covid test? The flights leave LHR at 9.30 pm on a Sunday so would need to be taken after 9.30 on the Thursday evening, or more practically, on Friday. I am wondering if any of the testing locations and analysis labs work over the weekend to deliver the results by Sunday.

    Kind Regards,

    Chris

If I were you I would avoid Thai airways as the plane will be full of untested Thai nationals.

I arrived in my ASQ on Sunday and flew with Qatar. Had my covid test on Wednesday at 17.30 at Doctor Today 181 Finchley Road London and got the result and fit to fly certificate the next day at 13.30. Cost was 150 quid.
