Can you define Robinson's "extremist, right wing agenda"? Or are you simply taking the mass media's word that he actually has one?

mmm let's see EDL, hangs out with know neo-nazis, pushes fascist politics, want me to continue? Got nothing to do with the BBC or 'mass media' I follow or watch neither - i know a fascist when I see one

I thought you were talking about Thailand and do not really understand why this is an issue for you. But in the UK we talk of Polish immigrants They are white.  And the Russian emigre class was famous.  Australians refer to various immigrant groups who are white.  I think you are just bringing, false,  contentious and irrelevant SJW issues to the forum..Just shallow identitarian politics.

ahh the SJW bs buzzword argument... I am asking a question, why do middle class white Europeans get called expats and others don't?  And the Polish thing is right, why aren't they called expats when they go to the UK but we are happy to call ourselves expats if we settled in Poland?

I am questioning identity politics not creating them... big difference

Certainly my visa/extension clearly states non-immigrant, and I am required to jump through several hoops each year, mainly financial, which means I am here on a year to year basis at the Thai government's pleasure. I do not know if that makes me an ex-pat, but it certainly does not make me an immigrant.

of course you are an immigrant, or you can call everyone who goes to live in another country an expat, or again, is that only for white people?

Yeah it sounds strange for the seller to need that.
My guess is that when you are doing it via the power of attorney you would need that.

You don't need it if doing by power of attorney. I know, I have sold three bikes in Thailand, all by power of attorney and I have never needed a letter or residency

OK. I now see how you bought it and registered it. You will certainly need to obtain a residency certificate to be able to sell it as I i am pretty certain you cannot use your outdated work permit. It's difficult as I haven't come across this before. Immigration should issue you a residency certificate showing your condo contract. You certainly don't need to be doing 90 day reports in order to obtain one.

You DO NOT need a residency certificate to SELL a bike or car.  Just passport and visa copy.

Sadly my friend, standards both personal and public in the west are on a very steep downward slope. When I was a kid you would not dream of answering back an adult let alone swear at them. You would never see females staggering around the streets with no dignity showing all they have on offer to anyone who looks, being sick through drink screaming like menatally challenged inmates and using language that would make a sailor blush.

    Today that is the norm

so from this selection of our best offerings some manage by some miracle to save up a few pounds and fly to Thailand that they think is a paradise for them. But do not dispair, they also go to Magalouf, the Iberian isles Tenerife and Spain and make complete idiots of themselves there too.

I am not an apologist for them nor do I in anyway condone such abhorrent behaviour. I find it utterly sickening also.

My simple but probably totally wrong wrong opinion on why this type of creature has been allowed to develop is because they have been brought up ( sorry could not think of a better adjective) believing that they do not have to take responsibility for their actions and that the nanny state in which they were created will take care of them anyway

the one good thing though is that Donald Trump has thus far escaped the blame for these idiots but hey someone will try to fabricate a link....

rubbish, you clearly don't know anything about history. And what has Trump got to do with it? You are the only one trying to make that connection.

And poor you, having to put up with the plebs, life must be such a challenge

  7. Have a friend - had 4 tourist visas before 3 single entry and 1 double entry all from Vientiane. then was on an Ed visa for 6 months. Also has had a non-b for 3 months before and several on-arrival stamps.

Is now getting a work permit, the Ed visa had been cancelled and went to Vientiane to get a new tourist visa, to then come back and get the non-B process started.

Has been rejected at Vientiane, reason, too many tourist visas.

It is worth trying at Savannakhet or just fly back in for a 30 day exempt. Friend is Russian.

Yes but, there are people who have been here longer than a year or two and were NEVER entered into the computer database for 90 day reporting by internet.

Because they are NOT in the 90 day reporting database yet (no one ever entered them), when they try to log in to do a 90 day report via the internet, they have no reporting record in the database.

Since the computer can't find their record in the database the computer treats them as not existing, and their application is rejected.

Stuff like that is why non programmers think computers are smart.

In reality they are not, they only do what you specifically tell them to do, and never assume facts like humans can.

Or as those working on so-called "Artificial Intelligence" projects soon learn their is no shared assumptions between Humans and an "Artificial Intelligence"

it's called GIGO, for Garbage In Garbage Out by programmers.

If you want to tell a computer to Pick up the pen and write the letter A, first you have to define what you mean by the action "pick up". and the object "pen" first.

Yeah, but can't be that hard to for the database/program to then inform the use that their details are not on the 90 Day database and then give instructions to remedy this.

It isn't about artificial intelligence at all, it is about them writing the code to make this happen, to make sure security certificates are up-to-date and for the site to actually function as advertised. Guess that is too difficult.

  9. Can you go with a friend, get them to check in.

I have stayed in hotels where a Thai or foreign friend did all the check in stuff.

You are right. So to get back on topic (my posts above talk about my own experiences) to help the OP because his situation is he's on overstay whereas most of us have absolutely nothing to hide, check-in using someone else's ID/passport (the room must be booked in their name and/or they should be part of the traveling party).

EDIT. Since the OP has a Thai D/L he can just use that so no need to worry.

Better yet, clear up the overstay (more than 90 days and you get blacklisted in any case) and then you won't have to worry.

I know he is on an overstay, hence the advice to get someone else to check-in, if he can. He doesn't need to be anywhere near reception when that happens. Just go to the room after.

Bad idea to use his DL, it has his passport number on it and they may record that - goes to immigration, and maybe someone will cross reference, just maybe. Then screwed.

  10. She will be able to get back in. I had the same problem, except for me it was the British FCO keeping my old passport when I got a new one.

I had to do the same, file a police report at the airport, and as I had the old passport number they could bring up all my old details and transfer the stamp over - I then paid the overstay and came back on a tourist visa. I now have a work permit from a new job and had no problems when getting the Non-B and this at immigration at Chang Wattana.

    Interesting.

Why did the FCO keep your passport ?

I have never heard of an expired British passport being retained.

It was damaged, maybe that was why? But they did,

  12. Just as a matter of interest how much more "slack" do you believe the 'unfortunates' should be given ?

The previous system in place for the last 40 years was just fine - i.e. 20k fine and no blacklisting, and less frequent stop and searches, nightclub raids, etc. I'd vote for that.

I am sure you would but you just lost out because the popular vote is against you !

popular vote from who? I think you are living in cloud cuckoo land
