The US is still supporting the status here, as is the EU, Russia, China, Australia. Basically everyone. A report is not action, until there is action the Thai government has every right to maintain that the world approves of how it is running Thailand.

problem is there are little resources here for western countries to care about, why spend money taking control of a country if there are no resources to exploit in the process.

The world only see Thailand a tourist destination, not much more, so they simply dont care how things are run here as it has little importance to other western countries.

  2. " with Thailand undeniably part of the global equation "

LOL, firstly Thailand needs to understand where it stands in the global scale of everything

Thailand is not part of any global equation

It is just a country that will follow and do as its told by others in regards to any global policies,

it has no strength globally and will not influence any global powers,

and leading global powers do not even consider Thailand in any decisions the make.

It is just a country they are not concerned with.

These headlines and issues only make sense in Thailand, where they think Thailand has more global importance than it actually does.
Apart from a tourist destination, Thailand has little relevance to the developed western world.

Kicking myself about that one,a pal told me about them when they had first come out.he was an anti capitalist and said it's the way forward but I took it as a joke as he said you can pay for drugs and hit men with them.

it is still very early days in the bitcoin world,

i suggest you start stocking up on some,

i have thought about starting an AMA bitcoin thread on TV,

to help explain to TV members in laymans terms what bitcoin is.

So how is the government in the position to cover the banks.i have my life savings in a bank that could go tits up and it should be covered by the government.im questioning myself should I really leave my money in the hands of this man.in fact it's time for a rethink about investing somewhere else.pronto.

  5. up late drunk, smoking ice, or whatever,

playing with gun, gun goes off while they are pointing it at the apartment block

they pooh themselves, worried anyone heard the shot, or where the bullet could have gone

as they were pointing at apartment block, so the person with the gun quickly leaves

while the woman posts pic on facebook and then later reports it to police to act all innocent

  6. Thailand should take the initiative and force all commercial vehicles to use new smart boxes that also slow the vehicle down if there is an obstacle,

restricors may also be a good idea

minivan drivers are the worst on the roads here

or they should do as they are in signapore, and start to test driverless vehicles

i think they should challenge google  to have their cars here

a driverless car surviving in thailand would probably be the ultimate test to prove the cars are safe to use worldwide

  7. etihad, emirates and eva, mainly bring tourists from europe (typical ferangs)

have they now just realised the swarms of what they call lo-so ferangs that came here and actually spent spent spent while they were here

were helping the thai economy a lot more than they would like to admit

In reality, Thailand biggest problem at the moment is the Baht being falsly propped up against other currencies,

how hard is it to understaqnd if they weaken the baht, tourists will return, and goods will be exported again.

but that would then mean the rich, the wealthy and the elite would have to pay more for luxury goods and overseas properties etc.............

    LISTEN UP everybody

I just did a 90 day report at Jomtien and when that was done I asked the lovely lady immigration officer about the 10 year visa

    The ANSWER?

Yes its currently being processed so sounds like it will happen

I then asked will it replace my retirement extension?

    the ANSWER?

    NO

her exact words..up to you ,can stay on retirement extension or go 10 year(5x5).up to you!

well if this new visa is optional, i really cannot see anyone using it, if you must still report every 90 days too

all you would save is 5 days at immigration over 5 years

and why even bother if you can get elite for 1m/2m per 10/20 years

seems they may have just approved this as an extra visa option, just for idiots with too much money

who dont mind giving 3m (say giving as you cannot take it back)

5555 - I've spent a few hours trying to find a definitive link to that new Cambodian "retirement" visa. I saw the articles about, including one written just 9 days ago, but it doesn't appear on any of the Cambodian Embassy (or the various "e-visa") pages.

Did note though that there is supposed to be a financial requirement, proof that you actually are "retired" and not allowed to own land (but can buy a condo).

https://www.cambodiadaily.com/news/immigration-department-to-introduce-new-visa-for-retirees-115982/ (The article is from late July 2016).

"The new visas will require proof of financial stability and documentation proving retiree status from applicants’ home countries, said Sok Veasna, a department director at the Interior Ministry’s general department of immigration."

" ..the new retirement visas—to be called “Category ER” visas—will be valid for up to a year and will not require a work permit, according to Major General Veasna."

"Retirees, he said, “can live based in Cambodia if they want to and have the money,” explaining that recipients of the new visa would still be barred from owning houses  or land in the country."

(No mention of 90 day reports though !!)

in all honesty who really cares about finding details

    all you need to know

is $380 a year will get you a 1 year multi entry business visa and a work permit

a business visa and work permit seems a much easier option

the retirment will be the same just without the work permit

if you have biz visa and work permit, you wont have any problems helping your mate paint his fence etc.

retirement or not, $380 a year is a bargain

    and no 90 day reporting.

In that case he will apply under the existing rules and simply extend, year after year. If he applies after the new visa is implemented then the new rules will apply. He should apply now for a 12-months' multiple entry O-A visa, he's then got 12 months to enter Thailand, and thereafter he just keeps extending IMHO

mate we already know know how things are done TODAY

everyone here are concerned about changes in future, and whether new visa may REPLACE current visa's

  11. This new retirement visa is a joke

my father is in the process of selling up back home to come here

but he was planning to buy property here for a bit extra income TO SPEND

and he cannot get any insurance at all due to existing conditions

if this new visa is to replace the current

then its seems he will seriously have to rethink his options

if this new one does replace current

i see 90% of expats i have met, will have no choice but to leave

i could see this visa being very appealing if they did not have the age requirement and 90 day reporting

but then the elite is probably much easier then

i really dont see why anyone would want this retirement visa

when they must tie up 3million in the bank, which you cannot touch really

when you can just buy thailand elite privelage access for 1 million baht for 10 years

which you get a renewable 5 year visa

For all the people thinking about moving to Cambodia/Myanmar, neither country has a "long stay visa" according to the research I've just been doing over the last hour.

Cambodia has a 28 day tourist visa which can be extended once and a "business" visa, also short term.

Myanmar has a number of visa categories (transit, tourist, "meditation") but no long stay visas.

Unless someone has links to sites other than the Myanmar and/or Cambodian Embassy pages that show other, long term options ?

Last time i checked Cambodia does a 1 year ME business visa that costs about $280/year

no 90 day reports and you can do as you wish work wise with the biz visa

EDIT: they are now enforcing that you must also get a work permit, which costs $100/year

you first need to get the 30 day, then the extension and then apply for 1 year (unless this has changed)

I once worked in restaurant inspections in the UK, I only ever chained one restaurant's doors on the spot.
Now I work in property and I visit a lot of restaurants when they are working, I've never been in a Bkk restaurant that would come close to passing health standards and the vast majority I would chain the doors immediately if I was working in that job here.

Proper storage temperatures, separating uncooked and cooked foods from each other and things like fresh cream and cut fruit, or using different chopping boards for raw meat and salads is practically unheard of.

The sheer volume of dishes that are washed in small basins or sinks of cold water and get a minimal rinse (dipped in another small sink or basin of cold greasy soapy water) before being placed in the 'clean' pile is incredible.
I don't eat street food, there is simply no way to guarantee the hygiene of it, and although I know I probably won't get sick, its a hygiene choice for me. And most of it tastes disgusting, dried for hours over a few coals and basted with a perennially topped up and stored in the heat marinade, I'll pass.

The amount of putrid food in Tesco and Big C is incredible, I see staff replenishing rows of chicken when there are bloated packets of yellow to green chicken sitting there, it's just that inane laziness and 'not thinking too much' mentality.

Walking through any of the big supermarkets, although Big C is the worst, there is often an area where you can smell rotting meat.

Then again we do live in a 3rd world country...

i bet you have never seen a day dot here LOL

  14. why are you getting married, or why do you want too ?

    what benefits are there ?

if there are none, then why marry someone when its obvious your miles apart

at least LIVE WITH EACH OTHER FIRST for at least a few years

have you met ALL her family ?

have you met them enough to make a firm opinion about them ?

just from reading your post, it sounds like you are in la la land (no offense)

she changes job preventing her to visit you

    you want something all romantic.............

sounds like you need to be a bit more seasoned here mate

and you at least need to be here living with her for at least of couple of years

or she needs to be living with you in your home for a good while

otherwise you may soon learn a bit about about some thai culture

    Up Donnie Darko!

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

mate remember i said this, and then if you decide not to do this

you can reflect on your actions in 3-4 months, and say why didnt i listen

Firstly right now, use your GBP to acquire Bitcoin (PM me if you need help)

second, apply for a Xapo card (xapo.com)

now depending what you think about future, you can order a USD or GBP xapo card

(personally if using in Thailand i would advise you get a USD card due to exchange rates)

if you have a family member back home, you could order 2 xapo cards 1 in USD and 1 in GBP

(your xapo card will need to be delivered to a UK address, you will also need a utility bill to verify to remove limits)

wait until March when you need the money

then use your xapo card to spend your bitcoin, which by then should have increased in value

(i would estimate at least 20% from todays value of  720USD/570GBP/25200THB)

the increase in bitcoin value will easily cover any fees or costs associated with this method

When I looked at opening a foreign currency account the charges were so high there seemed to be little benefit in having the account (Krungsi bank)

i have an FCD account with Krugsri

    2.5% to deposit funds

not really high if the exchange rate changes by more than 10%

(you also pay 1% fee, if you want to withdraw GBP in cash, if you withdraw in Thai baht they also give you a slightly better rate than what is stated)
