At least 13 people have died in Ecuador - while a four-year-old girl has died in Peru - after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit the region. The quake was centred just off Ecuador's Pacific Coast, around 50 miles (80km) south of the city of Guayaquil, according to the US Geological Survey. It was also felt as far away as northern Peru, where the country's Prime Minister, Alberto Otárola, said a four-year-old girl had died after the roof of her home collapsed in the Tumbes region - on the border with Ecuador

Twitter CEO Elon Musk on Saturday predicted that former President Donald Trump will be re-elected in a "landslide" if he is indicted — or possibly arrested and potentially "handcuffed" — next week. "If this happens, Trump will be re-elected in a landslide victory," Musk tweeted. Musk was reacting to a Fox News segment which detailed how the Manhattan District Attorney's office has asked for a meeting with law enforcement ahead of a possible Trump indictment of next week.

Donald Trump says he expects to be arrested on Tuesday and has urged his supporters to launch mass protests. However his lawyer said there had been no communication from law enforcement and the former president's post was based on media reports. Prosecutors have been looking at a possible indictment of Mr Trump. Reports say it could come next week. If he is indicted, it would be the first criminal case ever brought against a former US president. This case focuses on alleged hush money paid on Mr Trump's behalf by his lawyer to former porn star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 presidential election.

Residents in a regional Australian town have woken to find millions of dead fish in their river. The large-scale fish deaths were first reported on Friday morning in the New South Wales' (NSW) town of Menindee. The state's river authority said it was a result of an ongoing heatwave affecting the Darling-Baaka river. Locals say it is the largest fish death event to hit the town, that experienced another significant mass death of fish just three years ago. In a Facebook post, the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) said the heatwave put "further stress on a system that has experienced extreme conditions from wide-scale flooding".

Maternal mortality rose by 40% at the height of the pandemic, according to new data released by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2021, 33 women died out of every 100,000 live births in the US, up from 23.8 in 2020. That rate was more than double for black women, who were nearly three times more likely to die than white women, according to the CDC. Pharmaceutical giant Sanofi has capped the price of its insulin, becoming the last of three major manufacturers of the drug to curb soaring costs of the lifesaving medication in the US. The French firm announced a $35 (£28) per month price cap on Lantus for those with private insurance. Sanofi's changes follow in the footsteps of other drugmakers, Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk. The move saves patients money, but it also may help the firm's bottom line. The three companies make up 90% of the US insulin market and have faced public backlash and political pressure to reduce costs of the drug. More than eight million Americans use insulin to control their diabetes, the American Diabetes Association says. The human cost of insulin in America
