  1. ?! do you think your current gf has a hit put out on your ex gf or something?

Not sure. But the ex is now very worried. Shame really as she is a good friend now and a good source of help and information.

I would hate to lose a friend like that as they can be hard come by :D

This is the one that told you she was a virgin, but turned out to have two kids and a Thai bf in Chiang Mai?

Yes, sounds like gold dust. :o

  2. I asked one cashier(loads of gold on her person) what she thought of thaksin, her reply was disgusting.

she said that thaksin was not liked by her because he takes care of the non thai people.i said mai kho jai,she said isaan people were no thai and thaksin take care of them people so she not like.

    what a turd

This Bangkok born gold covered cashier was working where?

I could introduce you to many Thai women, both for and against Thaksin that could go into some real depth when discussing his policies. As I said, it's partly about who you mix with.

  3. burman,

i meant ladies working in bars as bg,mamasson and cashiers who have also got a chip on thei shoulder.

Ah ok, I was thinking more Bangkok women in general as oppose to the one's in the prostitute industry. Time to widen your circles I think Bp.

  4. ^^ I didn't even say bkk people were unfriendly bratpack. :o

I did because I think they are!

Can I ask how many of them you know? How long you have spent in Bangkok? Have you lived in Bangkok or just a tourist in Bangkok? It all makes a difference you know.

  5. In fact since i have come on here,i have been shocked by some bk farang posts and didnt know about this type of culture other than meeting a few nobs and a few greedy greedy thai girls. There are quite a few bar girls from bk and they are quite racist here too,as i ask them questions to try and understand this bitter racism in Thailand..

Yes mate, just ask the bar girls, you will soon get the full balanced picture. :o

  6. Then again big cities like BKK in any country can seem unfriendly places

I think you are right there, but things are not always what they seem.

Also I would say that Pattaya may seem more friendly to you because it's a major tourist town, and wherever you go you are in contact with the tourist industry and the associated smiles that go along with it.

  7. I agree with Burman. After living in San Francisco for about 6 years I can see many similarities between the cosmopolitan set there and in Bangkok. Totally inflated unrealistic sense of self worth, concerned about image and status... too good to talk to some people, always have to be busy or rushing off somewhere. Can't spend a Friday night just around the house, have to be at a club, being seen. No sense of compassion or dignity.

What utter <deleted>, how many Bangkokians do you know? How much time have you spent in Bangkok?

  8. I will have a chat to my thai friends in Pattaya and see what they think.Wonder if my thai friend, the big police guy agrees with you or not.

Yep, go and ask the big police guy and report back to us. We'll know who's right then. :o

  9. Is stand offish nasty? What do you expect them to do, run around smiling and making conversations with every tourist they see?

Personally I don't have a problem with Bangkok people, and no problem being friendly with them or getting it back. It depends on yourself to a degree. Perhaps you are someone best avoided bratpack?

  10. I find Bangkok people very stand-offish and unfriendly, a bit like London.

I think that goes for city people worldwide. Something to dow tih being busy and working and living in a constant city environment I suppose.

To me the Bangkok people are very far away from the famous reputation of 'Land of Smiles' which is unfortunate since the Airport that brings all the tourists is right there. I can imagine what the tourist must think when they first see these people who's reputation, world wide, is, they always have a smile.

I'm not sure most Bangkokians are worried about waking up everyday and making a point of smiling for people that come here on holiday. Not as if they all work for the tourist industry is it?

  11. Did anybody see the documentary BANGKOK GIRL

There was a cockney guy,who was a teacher and a right assole on this programme and was a typical bangkokian farang.

He was a complete asshol_e, but not the typical Bangkok farang by a long shot, even if you hang around the seedier side of it.

  12. stoned has two meanings

The meaning that I refer to was the act of throwing a stone at a person because he did something.

Thanks for explaining the English language there Timy, lot of confused people on here tonight. :o

  13. And I think a lot of these banishments are more about sending the girl back to work to find another punter, especially considering who the OP tends to hang around with. I don't know anyone that has been banished from their family for this kind of thing.

  14. We heard all the Thai customs how the feet are the lowest part of the body.

We are told never to step over anyone.

We are told never to use the foot to point.

I always considered stepping over someone or pointing at something with my foot to be quite rude in England.

I remember being told once about the head being the highest part of the body and the feet lowest so I should never put my foot to the head of Thai. Funnily enough, I never put my foot to the head of an Englishman either. :o

I read a post on here the other month about a guy saying when he come to Thailand he didn't know about this uniquely Thai custom, and when sitting in a bar he was asked by a stranger the direction to a toilet he pointed the way with his foot, much to the surrounding Thai's shock and horror. They actually had to tell him this was rude behaviour. :D

  15. The western world hasn't moved on that much. The most heated arguments on this board are usually closed because people are too busy trying to save face and take another poster's face away.

I think the reason many westerners get so wound up by the Thai concept of face is because it's given to them as a bullshit excuse most of the time.

  16. ^ Not much different to how it would be elsewhere in the world really.

I think a lot of people look too deeply into the Asian concept of face and forget in regards to cases like this we have the same concept of face back in the west. It's really not very hard to understand when you think about it a little.
