Minority of "severe" cases lead to death.

All good, the young can go back to work.

Elderly and those with pre-existing stay isolated.

Problem solved. Time to move on.

Life is precious, move forward and sustain the economy safely.

I saw a video yesterday that claimed between 70% and 84% of severe cases (those requiring ventilators), end in death of the patient. Granted, this is not an ICU Doc., but his sources seem sound.

perhaps it was pre-stocked to maximum weight capacity with medical supplies, water, etc etc ??

    or other possibility you mentioned

Maybe, but it can make it's own water and that would be 10's of thousands of tons of cargo and given it is for the use of humans I assume it is mostly empty space. Even a hospital ward is mostly empty space. It's not really important, it just had me wondering.

Would be much better if these kinds of articles gave us some pointers about what to expect if this model was accurate... This was from the 27th of March and there were only 70,000 cases and 900 deaths it cites. Now a few days later and there are 190,000 cases and more than 4000 deaths in the US. Seems a huge increase to me but maybe this fits their model. If these models came with graphs about what to expect over time then we could judge if they were accurate or probably over estimations or under estimations.

From a television news report I saw today, this model assumes every state is on lockdown, but that is not currently the case.  20%- 25% of the population is still not subject to lockdown orders.

"At least State Dept sent help to China when things were not looking dire."

They were sent sometime around Feb 7. Things were already looking plenty dire. An abundance of caution was called for. Instead the US relied on an abundance of ignorance and denial on the part of its POTUS and Secretary of State.

February 7th is 2 weeks past the time China put a city of 11 Million people on lockdown. Someone thought things were looking dire. Too bad it wasn't us.

Well he has now issued a different opinion than before. He now says if there are 100,000 deaths he will have done a good job.

what happened to it being under control. What happened to the excuse that he didnt want to cause a panic.

Thats the problem for trump supporters that blindly follow him. He changes his mind and they have to do head spins to justify what he says.

Their not justifying what he says so much as justifying their own horrendous choices. Personally, I blame the Democrats for making their choice seem worth taking. I hope the Democrats are not making the same mistake again.

President Trump was tied up with the impeachment hearings while the virus was getting going.  Pelosi drained valuable resources from the government at a critical time with her treasonous efforts.  After Trump is reelected, there will be hell to pay for the traitors.

Other than his non stop Tweeting, what about the impeachment occupied the President's time?

But, she was only parroting what your own government was predicting.

Maybe revoking the licence of the current government would actually also not such a bad idea.

It is hard to understand why the arrival of a hospital ship would require dredging, unless it was sent to a wharf/pier that was unaccustomed to receiving ships of any kind. A hospital ship carries virtually no cargo, so should be relatively shallow drafted.

Ya think corporations are happy about these restrictions? Even more so now that the world is faced with the inevitability of a worldwise recession?

US corporations can't really do business in these areas anyway, with the constraint of the corporate bribery laws (should they choose to follow it).  Except when it comes in the form of a weapons deal or something similar where the bribe is built in, say with perpetual hotel bookings for empty rooms..

Biggie difference on how well people perceive his response in the last 6 days to how well he is perceived in 6 months from now when so many are dead.

You don't seem to understand, though you should if you read any of these posts, or your own for that matter. People are absolutely callous now. It is only their opinion that matters. If someone close to them doesn't die, these death counts are just an abstraction to them.

True. And Mike really blew the debate. But, not on the epic level Trump blew his chance to save the American people. He will be remembered for all of that loss of life he could have saved, had he been man enough to muster up just a tad of selflessness. Failure is failure. Besides the five deferments and the five bankruptcies this is the largest failure of his life.

Actually, the bankruptcies would be counted among his successes. Businesswise, that is.

48% say they approve of Trump's response to the virus.

    Absolutely staggering given the facts.

I talk to a lot of Vietnam vets. You can't talk to them about anything without their experience in Vietnam creeping into the conversation within a minute or two. Most of them seem to love Trump, for whatever reason. I was talking to one today about how the most optimistic projections of American deaths from the Coronavirus would amount to twice the lives lost in Vietnam. He saw that as a fantastic outcome and a sign ofgreat leadership by Trump.  I can't explain it because I don't understand it.

People are finally realizing their vote is really all they have. If you give it away, to someone you do not even like, your vote is counterproductive.

Plus, next time there is a dem battle like this, centrists are gonna have to realize... "if we go the 'safe' route, we're gonna get hurt again".

It is so strange we have even gotten to this point where you have to tell people to vote for their favored candidate, but that is where we have been for a while, and it is a large reason why there is so many problems.

That is true. Especially in the primaries where people are free to vote for the person who most represents their own values. But time and time again I've talked to people who don't vote for the candidate they favor most in the primaries because the media and/or polling has suggested that candidate's chances of winning are less than some other candidate's. So they vote for the candidate they didn't even like previously. That explains how you get a Joe Biden as the nominee. Policy wise, not a whole lot different than his opponent. What the Democrats never seem to grasp is, that old saying in American politics, which is, "when the election is between a Republican (Neoliberal) and a Republican, people will always elect the Republican."

Article by Arwa Madawhi,a man hating ,feminist lesbian with an agenda,c'mon man you give her credence.

This woman is pretty credible. She is being blocked out by mainstream media groups IMO. She is credible enough to be heard. She appears to have no ulterior motives or agenda. She has been mistreated  to the point that a reasonable person would conclude a double standard is being applied.

for some on all levels of this forum the overriding concern is not whether the drug may be effective against covid-19 but that it was touted by their arch enemy trump

I've got no dog in this fight other than to highlight institutional failures, which are imbedded in Washington now and started before this presidency. That said, what I've read about this particular medication is that it has some efficacy with some patients if taken in conjunction with other medications. In some patients it has had an adverse reaction and they are removed from it immediately. I have also read that it was prescribed for some Lupus patients that now cannot find it anywhere given the run on it and their lives are now in jeopardy as well.

Thats the new Abbot test huh. Cool. Great job

    hear hear!

Doubtful, as Abbott has said that they expect to start production of the test sometime this week.  50,000 tests per day is nice but demand will still outstrip supply. Why wouldn't they license the process to other labs so many labs could produce tests simultaneously?
