Canada wrestles with euthanasia for the mentally ill.
Hanaguma replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I am with you in principle (fellow Canuckistanian here) but there have been cases where very inappropriate, to put it mildly, suggestions have been made to potential victims. Doctors telling people "you DO know that your care is costing more than $1,500 a day...." and the like. It is all too easy for people already made vulnerable by their situation to be pushed into hasty decisions. The article I posted has some truly troubling cases. Ten thousand people in a year is a LOT. -
Classified documents from Biden’s time as VP discovered in private office

You have to remember also that Joe Biden has a long and storied history of lying and plagiarism, dating back nearly 40 years of his public life. From cribbing speeches from British politicians to claiming to have finished in the top half of his law school class, ol' Joe has a gift for the malarkey. So no surprise that people aren't simply taking him at his word in this case. Particularly when coupled with his obvious declining mental abilities and cognitive skills. -
Glad to hear you have been able to confirm this with EVERY SINGLE PERSON to ever travel in South East Asia /s Americans obviously equip themselves with the patches BEFORE leaving the US. It is a necessary strategy.

Pain and fever relief medications being bought up by Chinese tourists
Hanaguma replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Not the first time for this. Remember about 10 years ago, there was a baby formula scandal in China, with some kids being poisoned by tainted formula? They all "flooded the zone" into Hong Kong and bought the country dry. Serious riots and anti-Chinese mobs were taking to the streets. -
Putting a Canadian flag on your backpack is VERY American! We from the Great White North have more subtle signals- we choose packs/gear from MEC for example, or have a water bottle from Tim's or Second Cup.

That is the key point. Nail on the head. Can informed consent be given by people who are not fully functioning mentally? There have been disturbing reports of military veterans suffering from PTSD who call government operated help-lines, only to be offered suicide as the solution to their ills. In 2021, more than 10,000 assisted suicides were done- a big number for a small country. It makes cynical/paranoid people worry that this is being done at least in part to relieve the burden on the public health care system, and bureaucrats deciding who are or are not 'worthless eaters'. https://apnews.com/article/covid-science-health-toronto-7c631558a457188d2bd2b5cfd360a867 -
Classified documents from Biden’s time as VP discovered in private office

No worries about the numbers, I get them kerfuffled too... It is no secret that China has been trying to buy influence at American (and other countries') universities for some time. The profusion of "Confucian Centers" was one of the more obvious ways. If you want to cast a wider net, it has also been going on in popular culture and professional sports- witness how Hollywood and the NBA both suck up to China for money and market share. The difference is the timing and the multiplying, as I said. Perhaps "Project Biden" was just one of many that the CCP was undertaking at that time. The presence of secret government documents, and lack of transparency about how they got there, who had access, etc. is the issue. -
Classified documents from Biden’s time as VP discovered in private office

Actually, your articles dont say that. Harvard got about $94 million between 2013-19 according to your source. The one billion figure is the total of donations to ALL universities, not Harvard. The difference is the timing and the ramping up. Donations triple as soon as the Biden Penn Center is announced. $30 million in just 2 years. No financial accountability at all, just a trough of cash for the taking. Not suggesting Biden betrayed his country for funding. I am suggesting that China was spreading around the gravy, and a lot of it ended up in Biden supported pockets. China looking for "goodwill" and "understanding" among the powerful voices of the Democratic Party... And pure coincidence that this happens at the same place where classified documents just happen to 'turn up'? Come on, man! -

The timing, for one thing. Chinese donations tripled once the Biden Center was announced. Doesn't that make you think "hmmmmmmmmm"...? https://news.yahoo.com/hunter-biden-china-classified-documents-070049153.html -

Yes. And the way Penn does their finding makes it impossible to see where the money went. The Biden Center does not have separate financial filings, according to the article. So you cannot say for certain that they received "zero in funding" from Chinese donations. Just curious timing, don't you think? Thirty million bucks in anonymous Chinese money in 2 years? Come on, man! -

Gotta also remember that the location of the first discovery, the Penn University think tank associated with Biden, is actually located in Washington DC. NOT in Pennsylvania. Hip deep in the swamp. It was a great place for past and future democratic policy makers to "dip their beaks"- Antony Blinken for example. Millions of dollars in donations from China flowed into the U of Pennsylvania- $30 million alone since the Center opened its doors in 2017. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/penn-biden-center-where-classified-papers-were-found-is-a-dark-money-nightmare/ar-AA16eE2T?li=BBnb7Kz Joe himself took in nearly a million dollars while NOT being a "full professor", as he claimed. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/biden-professor-university-pennsylvania/ -

Maybe so, but it does not excuse the liability. I am not that interested in making comparisons because the two cases are very different. But I think a person like Joe Biden, with 50 years of service in government, would have a good grasp on the rules surrounding confidential documents. -

On a more serious note, I wonder why we are relying exclusively on President Biden and his legal team to search for documents. I think it would be better if search warrants were issued and the DOJ sent inspectors to whatever locations are suspected of having such material. The fact that these documents have been known about for months and not returned is cause for concern. -

For Joe, it just may be a winner. I believe him! Not to mention he has the best insurance policy for his tenure as President since Bush had Quayle. There could be video of Joe being handed a clear plastic bag full of gold coins from Xi Jinping and he still wouldn't be forced from office. -

Ah yes. "The walls are closing in". "It's the beginning of the end for Trump". "Another bombshell revelation". I think I have been hearing this tune being played since 2016... As for Biden, at best this episode shows that his mental facilities have been deteriorating for longer than many people suspect, certainly from before he was elected President. Yet somehow he can cling to office, perhaps due to his clever choice of VP- a person so obviously over her head and incompetent that even the most hardened Trumpers would blanch at the thought of her holding the Presidency. -

You are engaging in what the Dutch call "ant f...king". Trying to parse out the details in order to prove your point. Let's agree that they are similar in that they involve mis-handling of classified documents. They are dissimilar in scope and reaction. OK? Thy hypocrisy of the current occupant of the White House still stands. -

Not at all. The two cases are not the same. But the delicious irony of President Joe tut-tutting over something he also did is cause for great mirth. Also ironic is Joe Biden having a "think tank" at a university. I would like to see evidence that he thinks before accepting it as reality. -

I guess poor ol' Joe was just confused again. Even though he was trying to dunk on the Bad Orange Man just a few months ago during an interview. "How that could possibly happen, how one anyone could be that irresponsible," he said in a segment on 60 Minutes. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/president-joe-biden-60-minutes-interview-transcript-2022-09-18/ Well, now he knows. -
...which is why I said "vast majority" do not discuss it. If you had a father/uncle/grandfather who served in wartime, did they ever talk about their "kill count" in such crass terms? Mine did not. Also, perhaps the type of service may make a difference. If you are in the infantry, up close and personal, then you can say for sure what you did. Harry was in an attack helicopter, so how can he say for certain how many of the enemy he killed? Sounds like idle boasting at worst. Most actual warriors would say something like, "I did my duty" or "I did what I had to do".

You will start to notice that you know some dead people of your own age finally. As you go through life, at first older people start to die, then people the same age, then finally younger people, then you. Also, 50 is the start of needing a "wake up at 300am pee".
-
Obviously a while. Thing is, the vast majority of veterans do NOT discuss things like this, especially in public. I did a couple years in the military, my brother is still in, cousin did time too, and we would never think of talking like this. Perhaps, just perhaps within a select group of close war buddies you might discuss the particulars of a certain mission or engagement. But counting scalps? Never.

This has been "a thing" in Japan for a while now. Started about 10 years ago when lonely men played video games that revolved around dating and created female characters to woo. It was called "Love Plus"... http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/12/16/japan.virtual.wedding/index.html Hotels in nearby resort areas even catered to "couples" looking for romantic weekends. Two breakfasts in the morning, room for two with a romantic seaside view, etc. https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052748703632304575451414209658940

Trump sued for wrongful death on second anniversary of January 6 riot
Hanaguma replied to Scott's topic in World News
You mean the same medical examiner who said... The formal finding was that the death was caused by "acute brainstem and cerebellar infarcts due to acute basilar artery thrombosis" and that the manner of death was "natural." Diaz told The Washington Post that the autopsy found no evidence that Sicknick experienced an allergic reaction to chemical irritants. He also said there was no evidence of either external or internal injuries. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/capitol-police-officer-brian-sicknick-died-natural-causes-after-riot-n1264562
