Look, throughout human history men have been paying for it. That is a fact of life. I'm the male of the species, my basic biological role is to try to get with as many women as I can. Look at how much social and religious programming has to be thrust upon us to try and keep us males from knocking up (or trying to) every women we can get our hands on. Some of the smartest women I know (as in rocket scientists) said they absolutely understand this, acknowledge it, and accept it to their benefit. Given all this social hassle to put up with to get laid, many find it easier to satiate their needs through hiring some. No hassle, just get what you need to keep your head clear to do something productive without sex in your mind every 10 seconds. So far in my personal experience, I think the Japanese are the most realistic about this fact of life in their daily lives. It is a basic biological need to be satiated and not just for men.
As far as age for sex, that has been subjective in history as well. You might want to educate yourself on the history of the age of consent https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_consent . The situation is, while our life spans have been pushed out, the biological aspect of when we get the urge to merge has not. In fact, because of good nutrition and such, girls are coming into estrus at an earlier age. As far as sexual maturity from a psychological level, I have met some 15 yr olds here in Thailand that were more naturally mature enough for sex than some 30 yr olds I have been with in the US. Just my opinion.
Thanks for your opinion. However, whatever way you look at it, prostitution involving girls or boys who are under the age of 18 is illegal, in almost every country with Thailand being no exception.

My GF comes to visit me in the states all the time and she got a 10 year visa on her own. She gets 180 day stamps. So it really depends.
As far as wives, it is not exactly automatic. Some categories of "former occupation" are banned from entering the US. haha
Also, there is about a 6-8 month waiting period.
Hmmm. Didn't the President Elect's current wife manage to get a US visa? Maybe there are some exceptions![emoji6]

Maybe it's an Australian problem? I've used VFS for a UK visa before and for a UK passport, and although by no means perfect, the processes were handled efficiently and speedily.

Lots of misinformation in this thread.
While the act of paying for sex is not in itself illegal in Thailand, paying for sex with someone aged under 18 most definitely is.

All the financials are done now, just the english test. Tomorrow bangkok.
Another question: There is a wait of one week to get a test certificate, for the english test. Now I thought I saw somewhere that they will pass or fail on the day of the test (tomorrow) and if you pass, they can give you a reference number or receipt that is good enough for a visa application. Is that true? I don't recall where I saw that, so I don't know if it's accurate. Otherwise I'll have to ensure the appointment is a week or so after the english test.
I fly thursday, and it would be good to get everything done and dusted on monday.
Your wife will need to wait about 10 days for the English test result.

There is no "interview" for British passport applications in Thailand.
(Isn't this in the wrong sub-forum?)

Right!! I doubt very many people have any idea at all why this regulation was put into effect. It may (and probably has) outlived its usefulness.... but every country has laws/regulations still active which have outlived their usefulness.
And also very strange that it is not being enforced at the main Immigration office in Bangkok.

Truly terrifying, although maybe not as much doomsday potential as if it goes to John Bolton.

No. the TM30 was another issue - this was all about the 90 day reporting.
Schools often give misguided and wrong advice.

It was ACS (ALLIANZ) but note that I did not read any further so can't say re other terms/conditions.
http://www.acs-ami.com/en/expatriate-health-insurance/acs-asia-lifetime-docs
(they have 2 plans, one gives lifetime cover and the other covers you only up to a certain age. the latter would not make sense if one was planning ot staty permanently abroad).
Having niow waded through a number of international policies, I can tell you that there are a lto of differences among them and close reading of policy documents is essential.
For example, I found one that excludes coverage for all chronic diseases even if newly developed afterwards. That basically rules out all the illness to which an older person is subject...heart disease, cancer etc.
Another policy required a second opinion for all hospitalizations costing more than US 2,000 (i.e. most hospitalizations) and it looks like the doctor will be of their choosing, or possibly employed by them...
The above 2 things are not universal, in fact they were each found in only one policy examined. the point is, one has to read carefully and policies do differ, significantly.
Surely a health insurance policy that didn't provide cover for cancer or heart disease wouldn't be worth even considering. I find it difficult to believe that an international regulated insurance provider would hide such an exclusion.

My 20-month-old (British) son now has an Extension of Stay, attached to my Extension. My Lao wife as an O visa and is permitted to stay until 28 December 2016.
My, and my son's, Extensions expire on 30 November, so we are going to Chaengwattana on 24 November, with my school's HR officer, to renew.
I'm assuming that we can also get my wife a one year Extension, to run in conjunction with mine and my son's. Am I right?
Also, our UK (certified) marriage certificate did not have to be translated into Thai in order to get my wife's visa converted from Tourist to O. Is this still the case for an Extension?
All my previous Extensions have been processed on the same day. Is this still the case, or, like with visa conversions, is there a 14-day waiting period after the documents have been submitted?
Cheers

Like some others who have posted, I've just switched from a Thai Insurance policy, to an International (UK based) policy, to cover me, my wife and young son. The deductible is high, but I'm reassured that we're covered for anything major.

The good news is that once you have submitted all the documentation, the process is quite quick and painless. The mother of my child is from Laos, and doesn't have a birth certificate, so I only had to submit a copy of her passport ID page. Also, there is no requirement to be married.

Only Putin has called Trump to congratulate him. The rest are stressing about the nasty things they said about Trump in the past.
Marie le Pen called him too...

What to do if parliament reject the deal negotiated by the government after the 2 year timeframe
If Article 50 has been applied we leave on extremely unfavourable terms. If Article 50 is not applied until the terms of a new arrangement have been negotiated, we Remain.

That is why a short motion to invoke Article 50 is important to get through parliament quickly. There's no need to discuss terms yet - just get the clock ticking on the process.
And put the entire UK economy at risk? I sincerely believe MPs, and even T May, are not that foolish.

It's not important who wrote or said, it's the message that is important.
Maybe Twain should have added "and voting in a referendum is merely advisory". It would have saved a lot of trouble.

Rubbish
Why? The government has already stated it will appeal. There is no higher court after the Supreme Court, except Europe. We're still in the EU in case you didn't realise.

What does the EU know about british parliamentary law? Absolutely nothing. If they got involved it would make matters worse.
If the UK Supreme Court confirms the ruling it will be all that is left if the government don't want to accept the British Court's ruling.

The irony of Brexit possibly being decided by the European Courts is delightful! [emoji4]

If parliament votes against brexit then publish the names of all the ones who voted against it just before the next election so people know who is for them and who against. that should change a few seats in parliament.
Their names will be well known. If there's an election it will be a key part of every prospective MP's manifesto. It's called representative democracy.

The long march to Brexit has been made even longer and while still likely, the chance of it being permanently delayed has increased. Thank God for judges and parliament!

The British Council and IDP both provide IELTS Life Skills tests (A1 & B1) in Bangkok. However, the tests are conducted in exactly the same way and the marking system takes about a week to process and be checked. If you PM me, I may be able to provide more specific information for you. Did she take the test at the British Council or IDP?
