Hope so. It's intrusive and unecessary as can be replicated by key strokes.
Just shows you can't please everyone as I know there have been posters clamouring to get it back.
I'd prefer to turn it off too!

Very sad. But it's not uncommon for people to speculate about the causes of tragic deaths like this - they happen on almost a daily basis, and it's just part of the nature of this type of Forum.

As a Brit myself, I think you're probably right. I had a grudging respect for the late Queen, but those times are gone. Britain is sinking fast due to pushing the 'self-destruct' Brexit button, and radical change is necessary.

Who is David Bowie?
Is he famous?
He was in his day. Not Taylor Swift levels, obviously.

Yes, it's annoying. When I finally did find a condo and signed a contract, the place continued to be advertised everywhere. One of the best things to do is to walk around (maybe not so good when it's this hot!) the area you're interested in and go into the condo office to see if they have any vacant condos. I've found this quite productive especially if you have one particular area/soi/condo you're interested in.

Just send your wife over the Channel from Calais and have her utter the magic words: "Asylum."
Then? Bob's your uncle. And risk death in the English Channel, or being locked up/deported if she can't prove she needs asylum? 🤔

a lot of Thai women have decent jobs, a family that can help and perhaps some land/real estate they could sell if they are dumb enough to marry a Brit.
But all Brits usually go for poor women/ladyboys hence all the whinging and whining.
It doesn't work like that. The income of the non-British spouse is not assessed; only the income of the British person. You can marry a Thai millionaire, but if you do not meet the financial requirements they cannot live with you in the UK.

OK. Now everyone is telling me I don't need an IDP. Maybe they are right but the T&Cs from my booking say one is required. I intend to abide by that. Maybe it won't be required as agents have discretion on acceptable documentation. But I'm not taking any chances on this. Thanks to all who responded to my original questions. That's all for now folks!
Their T&Cs probably say that, as they're not aware that a Thai DL is printed in English! An IDP is just a translation of the licence.

A lot of people spend many years working abroad and marry a foreigner but plan to retire in the UK. I think they should make the threshold the same as the state pension which is the lowest in Western Europe by long way, while healthcare in the UK is also the worst nowadays.
Sounds too sensible for the UK!
We can petition all we like, but unfortunately the anti-immigrant sentiment in the UK is so strong that this a popular, vote-winning policy. Not that it will be enough to save the Tories, but I doubt Labour will change it as it will cost them votes.

UKVI (not VFS) need to see her passport, so yes, they retain it unless you pay extra.

Absolutely - in fact a couple of years back, if you remember, the Police Chiefs of Bangkok and Pattaya got together and had a walkabout in Pattaya on evening. They declared that they did not find any sex for sale. I believed them.
It was only Walking Street, not the whole of Pattaya and yes, you'd be right to believe them as there was no evidence of prostitution visibly ("promiscuously" to quote the requirement in Thai law) taking place on Walking Street - it's a bar, gogo, club street, in case you didn't know.

She needs a full 5 year d/l plus IDP.
You can add her as a named driver on your insurance - shouldn't be too expensive.
She doesn't need an IDP - a 5-year Thai licence is in English as well as Thai.

Can't we just say there's "English" and "American"? Quite the Americans wanted to speak "English" when they had just broken away from the empire, I have no idea. Not the brightest, perhaps?

It wouldn't be politically popular in the UK. I doubt even Labour would back it. Not a lot of sympathy for "rich" expats who've retired abroad from the general UK population.

Oh dear, if you hang around prostitutes, you'll know a soapy massage costs around £50.
How much would you pay in the UK?
No soapies in the UK (that I know of) but a Thai "massage" will set you back about £50 for an hour.

Bqrgirls and massage workers make more then these lousy pensions. Probably the worst pension system in the advanced west. What an embarrassment and a joke.
To be fair, bar girls and massage workers have to work very long hours and sometimes have to do unpleasant things to make money! I would expect them to make more than a Brit on a State pension!

The "freeze" is not pro-actively operated as such. Uprating only exists for expats in countries which have a reciprocal Social Security agreement with the U.K. Expats emigrating to countries that don't have such reciprocal arrangements would know that before making their decision to emigrate (it's been like this for over 70 years). So why all the hew and cry now?
Because now people have easy access social media to complain on.

My post was total sarcasm. Guess you don't follow the local media much. They constantly raid go-go bars, hostess clubs, and brothels in Thailand claiming they found no evidence of prostitution.Unless they do find evidence and shut the place down which also happens.

Ironic comment based on police chiefs personally inspecting parts of Pattaye red light districts annually, for then stating their lack of finding of prostitution.
Conclusion no prostitution found
Phew! No prostitutes in Pattaya’s Walking Street – Police

Walking Street is one street in Thailand - no one has said there is no prostitution in Thailand.
