The sad thing is, I doubt she or her family regard this as more than an inconvenience for them. Because that is the cultural norm in a highly segmented social structure. Would be different if any of the victims had been of equivalent or higher social standing.
They provided her with a car, knowing full well she was underage, had no license and no insurance. They let her drive around anyway. They tried to use family connections to make the case disappear, and then complained bitterly at the small amount of community service punishment; complained when the probation service said she had to do the community service at an approved hospital and not the one she wanted where a relation was in charge; and complained again when the courts stopped her from driving again for x years - petitioning for the ban to be lifted.
At no time has she or her family shown any responsibility or remorse. Just an annoyance at the inconvenience. But again, that's the social norm for hiso's.
Until such times as families of wealth and connections aren't allowed to behave like this, the justice system has no chance. Many here are simply above the law, and many more believe they are also too.
I think the only acceptable form of justice would be to burn her and her family alive in a vehicle, let them have their smartphones so they can send their last message before they die.

I remember this case, I am still completely surprised she is still breathing. I think in the West she would have been brought to court with a bulletproof vest on, and whisked away in a hurry after every court appearance, she certainty wouldn't be smugly travelling around like a spoiled princess.

Nine people dead, and not a single family member has decided to take justice into their own hands? Astonishing, I would've enacted justice soon after the farce of a court case, eye for an eye.

Thailand, you cooked your goose, now eat it! It's got nothing to do with foreigners!
Exactly, let them enjoy their unsafe, polluted, undemocratic, rampant corruption, Perverted Buddhist, military ruled, 3rd World Utopia.

I think he may get into trouble for this statement as officially released publicly by the big shots, Thailand has been transformed from a military control to the public domain, NCPO disbanded and replaced with an equally same non military watch dog, and Democratic Elections were a success thus bringing Thailand in-line with all the rest of the Democratic Nations of the World.
I would be afraid that this now falls under a National Security issue as it is spreading false rumors and trying to undermine a legitimate and accepted government. But we all know the real truth, don't we!
No such thing exists, or has ever existed, in Thailand.

Which applies to all Thai's, and is the reason I consider this country a failed society.

I'm an American, I agree with you, they should have been reigned in years ago.....I would love to see them shutdown, or at least purged.

It's difficult to check if a driver is drunk without stopping every car. It's easy to spot a speeding car. Speed kills yet Thai police continually fail to curb the speedsters. Every day they fail to do this, 60+ people (mainly Thais) die + the severe life changing injuries and grief for the families and friends.
This is Thailand, if its their time, its their time, Its preordained. Which would explain why they don't care about safety, seatbelts, child car seats, or helmets.

Can't wait to hear what the advice will be.
My suggestion back when drought was being discussed a few months back, was to make a law that only low flow toilets can be installed. The amount of water that is wasted every time a toilet is flushed in Thailand, (and other SEA countries) is cringe worthy. They could save 2+ gallons of water per flush. Multiply that times millions of flushes per day, weeks, months, years,. All these new condo's going up with water wasting toilets installed.
The govt. could offer a incentive for present owners to replace their current toilets with new efficient ones. Shouldn't even be able to purchase a high water flow toilet.
For those who say low flow toilets do not work, nonsense, they are very efficient today. Water issues are only going to get more desperate. Once the glaciers are gone in the Himalaya's, China is going to stop the water flowing south. You haven't seen nothing yet with water problems.
But I wouldn't hold my breath and expect Thailand to do anything to actually solve the problem, other than to pay lip service and blame something/someone else.
Most of the country has a hole in the floor for a toilet, and a small pan of water they pull from a bucket.

"Cooperation from all Thais in NCPO farewell"? You mean everyone raising their middle-finger in unison?

To be a good Buddhist, the first lesson Prayut should learn is the Buddha's teaching from the Kalama Sutta: NOT to blindly follow Tradition, and not blindly to believe what your teachers [i.e. Authority figures] tell you. Prayut should start preaching this to all the nation - and encouraging the Thais to question everything (as the Buddha encouraged his people).
That doctrine alone of not going by old traditions and customs - if put into practice - would revolutionise Thailand from top to bottom. It truly would be an earthquake in the cultural and body politic of Thailand.
So of course - it will never be implemented or seriously preached now or in the future.
Talk about a massive, cosmic mismatch between what the Buddha taught and what Thailand actually DOES!
As I have said many times, Thai Buddhism is a perversion of the Buddhist religion.....there is little if any similarity between the two, money/greed is the root of this evil perversion.

Somehow I don't think he reads any books, he probably reads the "xxxxxx for dummies" books, which I'm assuming in Thai would be pictures only. This way he can interpret them anyway he pleases, so more like "xxxxxx for the Village Idiot" books.

So that's what happened to the two birthday parcels my kids sent me about three months back! I did tell the kids not to bother, once bitten and all that.
I think i've shipped over a 100 packages from the US in the last 3 years here, with every imaginable item you could think of, including some limited edition Automatic Watches. Only one package got lost, and that was because USPS (i use them exclusively) lost it. I have also had only 3 of them come through with a request from Thai customs for a fee (based on weight only), each about 700-800 baht. Not bad in my estimation, so who are you using for shipping?

I recommend to all those "sugar addicted" to try a week with little of no sugar.
I used to drink lots of (original sweet) coke, had lots of sugar in my tea, etc.
And then I was diagnosed with diabetes.
I stopped drinking coke and similar sweet drinks.
And now I drink tea without sugar.
And surprising, at least for me, I don't miss it!
Before that I would have called myself coke (the drink) addicted. But obviously that was not the case.
Now, on very few occasions, I sip on a coke which my gf drinks. I am surprised how sweet it is and that I ever liked it. Now I wouldn't want to drink it anymore.
Just try!
I drink Coca Cola Zero like its going out of style, I may not get diabetes, but if the artificial sweetener is cancerous, I will be a good test/lab subject....LOL

If the PM and Ministers want to "Server the nation", they should all commit Seppuku. This would do so much for the nation, that they will be remembered forever, all Thai people will worship their sacrifice.

They've said they haven't bothered in the past as it's been too difficult to catch them. However the government pushed new cybersecurity laws this February prior to the elections, allowing them the right to snoop and seize computers and devices without a warrant. There's also been the push for a single internet gateway in recent years, so it's certainly possible the country could become hostile to digital nomads and businesses if they keep going in the current direction.
I would just love them to try that one, I'll surely make the news when my violent side comes out....LOL

Indoctrination is a powerful thing, but that same indoctrination fuels money/greed/corruption, but the children of those greedy individuals end up seeking higher education abroad, where they then see democratic nations, and envy them. So the same money/greed/corruption of their parents will inevitably be their parents undoing, its a vicious cycle, sure to repeat throughout history.
