If the TAT is saying numbers are healthy but the accommodation sector is complaining of low occupancy rates, where are they all............alien mass abductions??
AirBnB and similar.
Hotels, of which there are more than ever, are half empty. It's the hotels that are moaning.
And TV posters, are swirling like vultures. They can't help it. Newtons Third Law is a mystery to them.
airbnb looks dead too, maybe they're all hiding under rocks..?

Good clean Hotels at reasonable charges, smiling staff (who can speak English), a reasonably priced Mini Bar and pool side bar to help push profits alone and you'll soon be full turning the clients away, once some of the sites like Lonely Planet and Trip Advisor get onto your 'good deal' hotel, it will be full in no time ... higher turnover, slightly less profit than previously, but consistent long tearm profits as you'll be the only Hotel at 95% occupancy !
in principle this seems idyllic and oh so easy, but there is a catch. for this to work the hotels would need to own the land they are built on otherwise they'll have little to no say in the prices they can charge. even if by some small chance they were not already paying some huge lease, come next renewal, and with 95% occupancy, expect that lease to sky rocket. can't be having some foreigners making lots of money money on their land you know! its the thai way ????

if he dies in IDC this WILL be a diplomatic incident, expect the UK press and (subsequently) the Foreign Office to be all over this.
i'd be handling this with a lot of care.

Decades ago, I had a college lecturer who reasoned that since we cannot stop drunk driving, then perhaps we should teach people to drive safely when drunk.
in Europe years ago they set up drug testing kits at rave parties because the authorities reasoned that the young were going to take drugs regardless of anything they could do.
they saved a lot of young peoples lives doing that

one thing that always make me laugh about these threads is that despite the universal condemnation, outside of Bangkok i can count on one hand the amount of times i've seen an expat grab a taxi or tuk tuk home after a skin full
especially true the younger the expat and the further he/she is from civilisation.. samui for example

so doing 80kph and the other vehicle 90kph is a better outcome then?

This is not even currently under consideration by the Thai government at all, and even if it was when ever they start considering passing a new bill into law or an amendment to the immigration act that usually takes them a very long time as it did when they first made it mandatory for new NON OA visas.
yes keep laughing..

It's no coincidence that the (meagre, in my opinion) figure is the same in each case. Anyone under a Non-O extension who doesn't have medical insurance, and can't cover the cost of treatment, would have the 400,000 baht to fall back on - either for treatment here or to be used for evacuation, and then would be unable to get a new extension, which is really what they want. No doubt I'll be attacked for saying this, but I agree with them. Anyone here long term who is unable to cover the costs of emergency medical treatment - either by insurance or savings, should really be returning to their own country.
not having a dig at you but why would they then enforce oa visa extensions? those guys have to have 800K in the bank and 400K all year round

TAT always looking elsewhere never trying to please the one's they already have.
maybe if more satisfied tourists returned they'd be able to ride out these economic 'bumps' a bit easier

That is, their properties, and probably only for their allocation. That does not mean 66% of all properties in Pattaya are fully booked.
Once again, look at the big discount. They must be desperate.
totally agree but it was the numbnut who stated "you wont get a hotel for love nor money over the xmas and new year week" i was replying too!
bookings are plentiful and at steep discounts too.

There is a housing plot opposite my house worth over B10 Million, so today they started clearing the land to plant Banana trees. The people in our community will look after the trees and for free providing we can keep the bananas, so the land owner only has to pay 0.15% tax instead of 3%.
ah, thats why all the land near me is suddenly getting cleared then
so the plan is to turn every rai of land in thailand into one giant farm then?
great.
do these people ever think anything through? guess we don't need trees..

lowest unemployment and usage of automation the most of the world.
Unlike Thailand where 4-5 employee's do the job that one westerner would do.
what they don't tell us about that 98% employment rate is that only ~33% have what would traditionally be called a 'job' in the western world and pay taxes.. the other ~65% are in the grey economy or aren't looking for a job. that includes taxi drivers, noodle sellers, market sellers, sex workers, meth dealers(!), etc
