The complications arise when they want to spend more than 30 days in Thailand. Many do especially retirees who want to avoid our harsh winters.

if they are retired why don't they sort out the appropriate visa ?

    WHAT?

put 800K in a THAI bank or buy a useless 12 month insurance for a 4 month winter escape??

    seriously?

This is what happens when Thai immigration runs off all the tourist and makes passports and visas so hard to get in this country and so confusing the people just say to hell with it will go somewhere else I think it’s about time Thailand straighten his act up or it’s not going to have any tourism next year and that’s the simple fact of it they can talk and tell you which the assets that but I am a Gratian is rude to tourist they think it’s a privilege to be here it’s not we come here because we like the country if they don’t want our money will take our money  elsewhere it’s a simple as that so I would suggest the visa shops get their act together and quit making it so complicated and confusing to come back and forth to Thailand to stay five or six months

lets be clear they WILL have tourism and plenty of it but the plan is to kill off the sex tourism and its working

family friendly pattaya is no joke to this government, its what they want

You westerners who are married to a former lady-bar employee are so quick to judge and attack.

Sorry, but blaming us for leaving you with your stubby holder, cheap chang, and Issan family won't help.

It's the government who's behind this stupidity. Not us, your ex-fellow countrymen.

oh dear we do have a chip on our shoulder don't we :cheesy:

As for 800k- you have the money. No need to panic.

For now maybe….! as on a my country forum ,someone from Udon needed to show on top of that 800K he bring money in to Thailand or spending money besides the untouched 800K …. he thought they may be think he work …. and so it goes on …., question where they go stop …? (for a while  ...)

well he has to live here on something! so he is either living on wife/gf/bf money, sending money over or gosh horror working for it.

easy to prove and declare where money is coming from surely?? i have to do it every year on marriage visa, both my wife and i are asked how we earn an income and thats been the case from multiple offices now

Probably, in his train of thoughts, we are "glorified" tourists.

    This is telling!

The razzias and strictness are indeed very bad for tourism.

And Thailand is feeling the crunch.

Other countries will gladly take over from Thailand.

In my circle, two farang went back home, one went to Vietnam, two went to Phillipines and one is selling things for relocating to Indonesia.

    Me?

I am, after living in Thailand since 2005, preparing things to be able to depart within a week and making things possible in Manilla.

even the thai's in my circle are now holidaying in Vietnam, one (my physiotherapist) has been there 4 times this year.

    why?

"cheap cheap" he said - 1200 baht flights and 400 baht lobsters!

I mentioned this on another thread but I'll say it again in case it helps someone to choose a different debit card.

The problem isn't Mastercard, it's the fact that it's a TPN debit card. Only local companies are allowed to process TPN debit payments online (in general), so that's why some online purchases work with it but some/most don't. TPN credit cards shouldn't have this problem.

If buying stuff online is important, either use a credit card or a debit card that doesn't go through TPN.

mine doesn't work with AIS or 3BB but works in local shops. annoying, would have thought those Thai companies would be local

I don't think the DUI checkpoints have ruined it for expats, the checkpoints help keep people from drinking and driving.

Until two years ago, I lived in central Pattaya and walked to the bars, or took the baht bus or motorcycle taxis.

One guy I would see frequently in the bars drove his motorcycle to the bar, but when he left, he hired 2 motorcycle taxis: one to drive him home on his bike and the second to bring back the first!

just out of interest how much does it cost for a motorbike taxi at say 2am? because on koh samui it would 100s of baht

So Chiang Mai is officially dead, but that's no surprise, after seeing a few temples it's quite a boring place. I certainly won't be going back there.

Now they've killed off the major draw of Pattaya. and it seems like nobody wants to go there anymore.

Which place are they going to destroy next? Phuket? Samui?

chiang mai used to be a buzzing town night life wise but they really did a number on that place with the 12pm closing - totally killed it

will be a shame if the same fate has happened to pattaya as CM never recovered

    RIP Bubbles nights ????
