Israel and Hamas fight house-to-house battles across Gaza
Bkk Brian replied to CharlieH's topic in The War in Israel
Another large tunnel complex found where they held hostages. The IDF reveals a major Hamas tunnel in southern Gaza's Khan Younis, previously used by senior members of the terror group and later repurposed to hold hostages. Troops of the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit and other special forces under the 98th Division raided the "strategic" underground network, which the IDF says was around one kilometer long. The IDF says senior Hamas officials previously resided in the tunnel, and hostages were later held there during the war. "The troops battled terrorists in the tunnel, breached blast doors, and neutralized explosive devices," the IDF says. In the tunnel, the IDF says troops found a holding cell where the hostages were previously kept, a bathroom and a resting area for the terrorists guarding the hostages. https://twitter.com/IDF/status/1755215632084107406 -

Special counsel report sends shockwaves through Congress A special counsel report released Thursday detailing memory lapses by President Biden sparked swift and fierce reactions from members of Congress. Why it matters: Republicans quickly seized on the report, with Democrats privately panicking about the potential impact of its findings. A senior House Democrat told Axios they are "going to take time to read the report," but added that it is "obviously concerning." "Oy vey," said another House Democrat in reaction to the details. https://www.axios.com/2024/02/08/biden-memory-special-counsel-report-congress ‘A nightmare’: Special counsel’s assessment of Biden’s mental fitness triggers Democratic panic WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden sidestepped any criminal charges as the investigation into his handling of classified documents concluded, but the political blowback from the special counsel’s report Thursday could prove even more devastating, reinforcing impressions that he is too old and impaired to hold the highest office. Special counsel Robert Hur’s portrait of a man who couldn’t remember when he served as Barack Obama’s vice president, or the year when his beloved son Beau died, dealt a blow to Biden’s argument that he is still sharp and fit enough to serve another four-year term. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/-nightmare-special-counsels-assessment-bidens-mental-fitness-triggers-rcna137975

So plan B being? Who else is there for the Dems if this is true? Special counsel report specifically cites Biden's age and poor memory as a reason he wasn't charged US Special Counsel Robert Hur's newly released report cites President Joe Biden's memory and advanced age as a reason not to charge him for mishandling classified documents. In Hur's yearlong investigation, his team found several classified documents improperly stored outside the White House stemming from Biden's time in the Senate and vice presidency. https://www.businessinsider.com/special-counsel-report-biden-age-poor-memory-reason-no-charges-2024-2

Your just making up your own facts. @Brickleberry Your point 4 for instance. No its NOT a legal issue. Its your fake rage only. The UNRWA is NOT being stifled from distributing aid because of this. The countries that have temporarily suspended aid money only account for around 50% of the aid UNRWA get and the UN have also stated the budget will last till end of Feb or early March anyway. Your ridiculous claim that this is making those countries legally complicit in genocide is just off the wall!! I wonder why Arab countries supply so much less aid to UNRWA than the west, perhaps time for them to step up regardless of this. Some do provide but nowhere near the amounts the west does.

Accused UNRWA staff 'betrayed' agency, says group's Gaza chief "I've spoken to a large number of our staff in the last few days, Palestinian staff, and equally they are shocked by the actions of this small group. "Essentially, they've betrayed the organisation, they've betrayed their mission as humanitarians and they've betrayed the Palestinians themselves and compromised this vital aid operation." https://news.sky.com/story/israel-hamas-war-accused-unrwa-staff-betrayed-agency-says-groups-gaza-chief-13065574

Hamas Unveils Truce Proposal, Netanyahu states its delusional

He keeps posting Hamas talking points, no wonder you agree with it all. Do you actually remember what ICJ ordered Hamas to do with the hostages? Do you remember what the UN Security Council ordered? -

Of course, Hamas insists on the UNRWA as part of phase 1. No surprise there, its a healthy employee for Hamas fighters and its mainly Western Countries that finance it, Arab countries, not much at all compared. -
I will use 'we' to refer to normal human beings as many times as i like. we we we we we. If we can't acknowledge the truth when it is literally in front of our eyes, then we have issues. we we we we we. Very childish but then you started your post off with a personal attack so no surprise. This collective "we" does not by the way include the 16 or so donor countries who are the ones that actually pay for the UNWRA. They want to ensure their money and the money of their tax payers is not going to support terrorists' within the UN. They want to ensure the curriculum in the schools designed to incite hate towards Jews is not taught anymore.

This evening @IDFSpokesperson conveyed to the public the tragic news that “we have notified thirty-one families that their loved ones who are hostages are no longer alive and we have confirmed their deaths. To the rest of the families, we have provided all the verified information available to us about their fate and condition.” https://twitter.com/LTCPeterLerner/status/1754980465675530355 Internal Israeli Report Says a Fifth of the Remaining Hostages Have Died. The report’s estimate that 32 of the remaining 136 captives have not survived their ordeals is higher than previous numbers the Israeli authorities have disclosed. https://archive.ph/P6uU3 https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/06/world/middleeast/israel-gaza-hostages-dead.html

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant says half of Hamas's fighters have been killed or seriously wounded by IDF troops. "The IDF operates with strength and precision. The ground operation is progressing and achieving its goals. Our forces operate on the ground in most of the territory of the Gaza Strip," Gallant says in a press conference. "18 Hamas battalions are dismantled and no longer function as fighting military frameworks. About half of the Hamas terrorists have been killed or seriously wounded," he says. https://twitter.com/manniefabian/status/1754553536115859963 -
Guterres appoints independent UNRWA review panel UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Monday appointed an independent panel to conduct an assessment of the UN agency that assists Palestine refugees, UNRWA, following accusations that several staff were involved in the 7 October attacks against Israel. The independent Review Group - appointed in consultation with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini - will examine whether the agency is doing everything it can to ensure neutrality and to respond to allegations of serious breaches when they arise. It will be led by former French Foreign Minister, Catherine Colonna, who will work with three research organizations: the Raoul Wallenberg Institute in Sweden, the Chr. Michelsen Institute in Norway, and the Danish Institute for Human Rights. https://news.un.org/en/story/2024/02/1146207

Good to see some more investigations. IDF probing alleged violations of regulations and international law during war on Hamas The Israel Defense Forces has launched an internal probe of possible violations of international law by troops during the ongoing war against the Hamas terror group in the Gaza Strip, the Haaretz daily reported Tuesday. A specially formed team of investigators will look into various incidents, including the alleged killing of dozens of civilians in a strike that targeted a Hamas commander and the mistaken shooting of three escaped Israeli hostages who were abducted from Israel during the devastating Hamas October 7 attack that sparked the war. IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi appointed former military Operations Directorate chief Yoav Har-Even to lead the team. It will operate under the auspices of the military’s top-tier General Staff Fact-Finding Assessment Mechanism. https://www.timesofisrael.com/idf-probing-alleged-violations-of-regulations-and-international-law-during-war-on-hamas -
UK Considers Aircraft Carrier Deployment to Red Sea as Tensions Rise
Bkk Brian replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Oh I'm sure you'd prefer the UK to up its current 2.3% defense spending as share of GDP to the mighty US of over 12% No pleasing some people. Besides which: A combination of the nuclear-powered endurance of US Navy carriers and an immediate lack of a UK solid stores support vessel for any UK flattop deployment indicate no near-term requirement. https://www.naval-technology.com/news/no-immediate-requirement-for-uk-carrier-deployment-to-red-sea/ -

EXPLAINER What does Israel need to do to comply with the ICJ genocide decision? The International Court of Justice’s decision on Friday finding that it is at least plausible that Israel violated some of the terms of the Genocide Convention during its war against Hamas in Gaza was something of a mixed bag for Jerusalem. On the one hand, the very nature of that finding does severe reputational damage to Israel and further weakens its international standing. On the other, the provisional measures the court ordered were also relatively mild. The ICJ said very generally and vaguely that Israel must do everything in its power to “prevent” acts of genocide, but since it did not tell Israel to “desist” from such acts or even to halt its military campaign in Gaza, there is little Israel needs to do to demonstrate compliance with that particular order. The court did, however, issue several other measures that will require more active steps by Israel in order to comply with the ICJ’s orders. https://www.timesofisrael.com/what-does-israel-need-to-do-to-comply-with-the-icj-genocide-decision/

You may find the censorship is mainly Pro Palestinian so I guess that'll be fine with you. Unmasking the Genocidal Aims of Hamas: A Grim Reality Overlooked by Media The ongoing conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas has sparked heated debates and garnered significant media attention. However, one crucial aspect often overlooked is Hamas's genocidal objectives, which should be a central part of the narrative. While reporting on the conflict, mainstream media, including the BBC, has frequently failed to emphasize the fundamental difference between Israel and its enemies. Unlike territorial disputes, Hamas explicitly aims to kill Jews based on their identity, echoing the dark echoes of history, reminiscent of the Nazis' commitment to genocide.

Maybe these pro Palestinian protestors should be calling out Hamas and telling them to release the hostages as instructed by the ICJ. Another smaller rally held did the right thing. ‘Rape is not resistance’: London rally calls for release of women held by Hamas Banners saying “Rape is not resistance” were waved at the rally, and some protesters wore sweatpants with stains between their legs. The march was held near the offices of the BBC, which the organizers of the march feel has not done enough to cover alleged sexual violence during Hamas’s deadly rampage. Reports of rape and sexual violence have multiplied since October 7, and at the start of December, Gilad Erdan, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, said Hamas used rape and sexual violence as a weapon of war. https://www.timesofisrael.com/rape-is-not-resistance-london-rally-calls-for-release-of-women-held-by-hamas/
