who want to be a guinea pig of big pharma

the whole thing is to strengthen your immune

not more chemicals injected into your body , certainly not without clinical trials

Please, try to get to grips with the simplest most basic facts of Chemistry. These lovely pavlovian response words like "Chemicals" belong in the fevered imagination of the conspiracy theorist only.

The Universe is made up of "Chemicals" which it appears that you think are sinister. You and every living thing on the planet is made up of Chemicals, does that make them all sinister?  Chemicals in living things have been constantly changing and mutating since the first strand of self replicating RNA. Scientists develop new chemicals all the time. Long ago they discovered fermentation which allowed them to pour into their bodies beer and wine, which you may be fond of.

Unfortunately Covid 19 will kill a lot of people before it strengthens their immune system. Those who survive should then be Immune to further infection from Covid 19 only, you can hardly say that having antibodies to one more source of infection among many thousands, is significantly strengthening their immune system overall.

I expect all older TV members would be very happy to have a vaccine available, as they are the ones at greatest risk.

The price for it would be set so high , that hardly anybody could afford it .

I know what I am talking about , a few yrs ago I needed a newly developed med ( Gilead ) , but the price for a treatment was set at 186000 $ ! I had to wait a few years until I could buy it from India for 1500 $ .

Been there, done that, twice.  There are a few hoops to go through, and the Indian Doctors will usually demand a battery of tests to justify the prescription, but it is worth it. Their system is a combination of basic care for the poor, and high quality care for those who can afford it, rather like Thailand. You can sense how much their doctors despise the profiteers of big Pharma.

south Korea after the first case found/ were testing 10000 people a day after 1 week

usa after 4 weeks after first cases most states have no test kits / govt think 4500 have been tested

trump refused to take test kits from WHO /as he wanted to make money out of the virus by having his friends make the kits which failed#WAKE up he tried to pull another con on the people again

Rather reminds me of the allegedly close friend of a certain minister in Thailand, who they say cornered the supply of masks so he could sell them at a big profit to other countries. Trump's approach entirely, why waste your time attempting to take care of your own people when you can make a profit out of them, a national crisis only makes the profit larger. Reading about his fathers standards helps in the  understanding of how he became so utterly immoral. No wonder he is so comfortable with 3rd world dictators.

Yes, because restricting people from traveling from an area where an infectious disease is prevalent from going to areas where said disease is not prevalent is foolish. Said no one. Who actually thinks the issue through without a lens of extreme partisanship. EVER.

The way I heard the excellent video of a genuine expert being interviewed I took it like this. Travel bans don't work when the virus has already spread significantly to most places in the world. Containment is no longer a possibility, viruses don't recognise borders. Earlier on when the Japanese quarantined the cruise ship one could see the logic.

Personally I would be more reassured if the Corona virus had given an announcement telling us how we were going to save ourselves from Trump!

Trump's ban is on those from the Schengen area. Schengen allows free movement, without passports or border checks for more than 400 million people across highly infected countries. The UK and Ireland are not in Schengen.

That said, once the number of identified cases in the UK starts to rise rapidly, I'm sure Trump will extend his ban to the UK.

Soon we will start to see the true figures for US infections (Remember the US with c. 350 million is testing the same sort of numbers as Korea, and Trump refused additional funding to prepare for a pandemic).

Once the number of identified cases in the US starts to rise rapidly, I'm sure the rest of the world will extend their ban to the US.

The air we breathe is filled with cancer-causing substances,” said Kurt Straif, PhD, head of the IARC Monographs Section. “Outdoor air pollution is not only a major environmental risk to health in general, it is the most important environmental cancer killer due to the large number of people exposed.”

Hmmm.........This is a very complicated matter. Cancer risk is increased by all sorts of things, but the root cause is mutations in DNA (Sometimes RNA) due to failures in the copying system. This copying system (And the associated repair mechanism) get less efficient as we grow older. The vast majority of mutations are harmless, but ones that inactivate the cell's self destruct mechanism (Apoptosis) are potentially deadly.

The effect of irritants like tobacco smoke, is well documented, they increase the risk, in the case of tobacco quite dramatically. Obesity is now also seen as a major risk factor.

Many heavy smokers living in the worst possible conditions never get lung cancer. Non smoking shepherds living in the pure mountain air (The Alps for example) sometimes do. Genetic predisposition can play a big part.

The argument which runs "My uncle and three of my mates........etc etc", is statistically illiterate.

What surprises me most is why a tourist who has many possibilities of choice goes to an area where the pollution is high ?

I think this has been covered before. Many falangs in CM have wives/ girl friends who work in ordinary non tourist related jobs, and/or they work here themselves, and/or the two of them have their own property, and are not in the income bracket to swan off to some beach hotel for the duration. Maybe they have kids at school.

Lovely breeze got up this afternoon, miles of mountains clearly seen, air much better, not all doom and gloom. Indeed I may even live to see another March, if the virus doesn't get me, or the drunken pick up driver. "Kit Buack".

It’s not an easy decision when one has a gf who works , and I am not one to hop skip and jump. I love routine. But getting to the point where I might jump. Anger building up at this nations utter stupidity. Health is wealth , I keep telling myself .

Yes, yes, and yes. My gf moved here 16 years ago. She says there was never much of a smoke problem until a few years ago, so what has changed? I don't think it is wrong to comment on burning in Myanmar etc. You can't blame the whole problem on them which the Government would love to do, but it is obvious that they contribute, go to Mae Hon Song, or Pai. The shortsightedness beggars belief, the jungle burners are killing their own children. I suppose if you live on top of a mountain you can happily watch the smoke settle in the valleys. The government inactivity and inadequacy also beggars belief. Look forward to seeing the sprinklers out on Nawarat bridge, so we can all marvel that humans can actually achieve such a supreme level of idiocy.

China is reported to have debt of 325% of GDP, so it is also vulnerable, particularly since Xi Jin Ping has been suppressing grey market lending that supports small & medium businesses. It's reported elsewhere that 60% of small business cannot survive more than 2 months if the Chinese economy continues to experience blockages. This no doubt explains why the leadership is intent on portraying the Coronavirus epidemic as easing so people will return from the provinces to get back to work. For good reason many people do not believe government propaganda, so economic revival is not assured.

In order to balance this I think you should take into account how much China is owed. Currently about 6% of world GDP, including 1 Trillion in US treasury bonds. I think there are more convincing clients for the countries in most trouble from the economic effects of the virus.

It could actually be much higher if widespread testing was undertaken to get a more reliable figure of those infected.

Not sure if I agree on this, there are two problems.

    1) Yes if we did accurate widespread testing of people we would get a better idea of what the fatality % is, but it is likely to be lower because many people have mild systems (So they say) and go unregistered, and the actual number of deaths is known by and large.

    2) This is all complicated by the fact that we cannot trust the figures produced by some countries, particularly ones where the tourist ministry is way more important than the health ministry.

I am not suggesting that Thailand has less numbers than the UK or any of its neighbouring countries, that said, it does spreads much quicker in colder environs, and hits those who are older or have pre-existing conditions.

The numbers reported worldwide could be lower because people who have had the Covid-19 and died, might have died from other causes,

At the end of the day, it's just another strain, more powerful as you say and more will die, until a vaccine is made, by this time next year at the latest, all of the above said, no one is yelling out that so far the recovery rate is 54%, they only focus on the mortality rate being between 2%-4%, as they say, if you want to create a panic, you can rest assured the media will do that for you.

I for one have a pre-existing condition and know I will have a battle on my hands to beat it if I come down with it, e.g. as we have been told it hits the lungs, so those who have a pre-existing condition like myself,

The above said, keep smiling and try to stay safe as per usual.

I have removed section of your long post that I have no comment on.

Para 1 ........I didn't suggest that you thought that. We don't know yet if it does spread much quicker in colder environs.

para 2 Yes, but they could be much higher, because many people may have had mild symptoms and not been aware that they had it.

Para 3 I agree we should not panic, but neither should we ignore an obviously serious and growing problem.

Para 4 I also have a pre existing condition, many older people do. I wish you the best of luck with surviving yours for a long time.

Did you also know that 29 million contracted influenza, 280,000 were hospitalised, and 16,000 have died, this whole Coronavirus has been blown out of proportion in my opinion, that said, if one things comes of this strain through all the negative media reporting, the world might be a more hygenic place to live as people wash their hands and learn to wear masks if sick, hopefully.

Once a vaccine if made, which won't be long, Bob's your uncle as the saying goes, she'll be right, another, cough cough.

The problem is that this virus is many times more deadly than most flu, could be 40 times according to a BBC report. Furthermore it is very easily spread. Your figures on flu need a perspective, this is probably over a winter season, covid 19 has just got going.  A vaccine will take a year at least to develop, test, and manufacture in vast amounts.

The key thing as mentioned before is that there is no way Thailand with it's strong China links has less cases than the UK for example.

What can she say about Trump that we haven't read in the newspaper the past 4 years? Yeah she can give it to us with breathless histrionics and a full helping of righteous indignation, but that only works if you don't live in a glass house yourself. Probably would have helped if she didn't place 3rd in her own state tonight.

"breathless histrionics and a full helping of righteous indignation," I thought that was Bernie you were talking about, sanctimonious self righteousness, just like Corbyn.

Yes her results have been very disappointing, but the momentum was with Bernie and his army of young warriors from the start. If only the young would actually vote in vast numbers in an election, they generally don't, youthful enthusiasm very rarely wins elections, though Slovakia has just bucked the trend.

The deadly air 'quality' has of course nothing to do with this. Blame a virus because local authorities can't handle the burning.

Yes for sure, though burning of the corn fields is a problem in many parts of Thailand, burning of the jungle is fairly restricted to the North. This is beyond the capacity of local authorities to control. I suggest that the army, lead by generals at the front, should tackle the problem. Long marches in the mountains would reduce waistlines and possibly even prolong life of the glorious leaders!
