2018 114,000 deaths.

The utmost care is needed at all manner of U-turns and intersections. I slow down (checking behind me first) when I come up to any even if I don't see anyone in sight. 

Some might be interested in the following story. The closest I came to death was when going home along Rachada Pisek Road in Bangkok toward Klong Toey after a night out. A car in front of me (I was on a motorcycle) in the central lane suddenly swerved out of the way because right in front, stopped, was another car. 

To this day I don't know how I had reactions quick enough to swerve and avoid going into the back of the parked car at full tilt. The bike - a 250cc rebel - felt like jelly underneath me. 

But not nearly as jellylike as my legs felt as I tried to get sleep that night. 

I failed in that endeavor.

I have been fluent in Thai for more than 30 years and people don't expect that I understand them completely. I could count the number of times that anyone has been rude to me on the fingers of one hand. Some people who don't speak Thai well merely imagine that Thais are being rude to them because they might hear the word "farang". This speaks more of their frustrations and inadequacy than the rudeness of Thais.

Too true.

Also, some people in Thailand think that immigration have to stick to matters involving foreigners and the tourist police have to only look at crime involving tourists. The fact is they have a much larger remit. They are all police after all.

A quick Google search will reveal that electrocuted does not necessarily mean the person died.

I waiting one time in the bank for another thing. Have spare time, one staff not busy. So I ask him how much per month for loan xxxxxx amount. 

He said “I not know.” 

So I sit down again. Look to bank website on my phone. It have calculator for loan. Easy to use. So I do it.

Then show to him. He surprise. He not know about it. BUT WORK AT THE BANK! His job!

 

He will be manager one day!

 

IMO Tanachart Bank is only bank training the staff. (But not convenient, because not many) 

 

I understand many of the sentiments behind your post. 

A agree that Tanachart is good as I have received a lot of good service from them in recent years compared to the other banks I use. I would say it is worth going out of your way to find their branches!

The report in the print media to which you refer admittedly contained the name and address of the establishment. This was not mentioned in the body of the Naew Na article so was not included in the translation. 

The print media story was all of four paragraphs that said very little about the sting and how it was mounted. 

I'd rather keep 30 baht in my pocket and rely on Thaivisa, thank you very much.

I think driving here is great. I'd go bonkers in the city of my birth, London, with all those traffic lights and petty restrictions. Here I can drive between two of my houses - about 60 kms apart - without going through one set of lights. Sure there are some nutters on the roads, give them a wide berth. 

Learn to be aware of the dangers and drive accordingly.

There won't be a referendum precisely for the reason that the British public would probably go for the return of the death penalty. It is to the credit of the politicians that this has been blocked. They never thought that Brexit would be chosen; a disastrous mistake it was to ask the people who were manipulated into a terribly unwise decision. They would do the same with the death penalty. 

Better to keep this Thai murderer, assuming he is guilty, away from the public for ever in solitary confinement. No parole. Extended and unrelenting misery until he dies.
