Curiosity has struck me... Laser with minimal incision for arthroscopic repair of the meniscus ???

My complex tear was irreparable, so it looked like it was trimmed back with what I can only describe as a probe similar to a 'nose hair trimmer'....  (difficult to clearly identify in the video so I made assumptions)... that itself could have been the laser you mention which instead of 'trimming in back' it burnt it back ???? so that the tear was cleaned up / trimmed up so it doesn't propagate further.

Three small incisions in my case, about 1/2 inch in length. It was explained to me as a trimming of the meniscus tissue. Maybe my situation wasn’t complex. But yes, the laser does cause immediate tissue burning which allows healing to begin.

I got lucky with the technology, as previous operations required the meniscus taken out. Terrible option as this would allow bone on bone.

You can't control the growth of wild mushrooms.

The Mountain People, esp the poorest, rely upon the money. They literally will not give up the crop as the financial impact would be too severe.

The last time there was a shortage the price went mental.

Introducing it as black market item will cause carnage and, if anything, encourage more burning.

You'd end up with the police organizing distribution and creaming profit.

The only way to destroy the Hot Thep market is to produce it on greenhouse/farmed environments. I know one mushroom grower who has tried to do so for years ( the first person to do will be a Thai baht billionaire ) and it's driving him nuts.

    Thank you, some edification here.

Do you think if there was a way, i.e. greenhouse, that the smoke problem would be noticeably less disastrous?

Or are the mushrooms just a small piece to the smoke puzzle?

  3. A comment I heard today, that our current CM smokey hell comes from local fire starters racing against the Songkran clock, in search of Het Thop mushrooms.

So maybe someone can answer for me, hypothetically, if the “powers that be” were to outlaw Het Thop mushrooms, making buying/selling a serious crime, would that have an appreciable effect on our air pollution?

Or is the Het Thop just a scapegoat for other failed policies?

I have not read through the comments. My first reaction, having lived in Thailand going on 13 years is that there is a substantial difference between western nations and Thailand as regards slander/libel law. In the west ... if I call someone a thief and they are, in fact a thief, the person cannot charge me with slander/ libel. Here if you state or print that a business or person has done something, even if true ... you can be sued for damages (yes, sometimes cited as loss of face). In my experience, I vote with my feet, never dealing with that business again and, in private, would warn folks off out of regard for others.

Yes, that’s why I didn’t mention the name of the restaurant.

However, I did go back and looked at a full years reviews on Google Maps, and its amazing how they ping pong between 5 star and 1 star reviews. Either it’s a tremendous meal with a lovely owner… or someone got sick, the food is disgusting and the owner is arrogant. To be honest, I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

Our experience is that at least 50% of restaurants self promote and whilst having excellent reviews, many are often rubbish.

I know this for a fact. In my hotel there is a coffeeshop that uses Grab. The owner (farang) has himself left glowing 5 star comments, as well as his friends. This especially happens after a real 1 or 2 star review shows up.

  6. I’m not out to bring damage to any particular restaurant but I have to wonder about food reviews on social media here in Chiang Mai.

In my case, a restaurant popped up on my Facebook page and looked great. I never heard of this place, so I went to Google Maps and as I normally do, read the reviews. Well, the last ten reviews were horrible. Mostly 1 star, some with comments and pictures. Everything from food had no taste, was overpriced, and the owner was rude. Even a photo of the bathroom urinal with a cockroach in it. Yikes!

So I went back to Facebook and left a comment about the plethora of bad reviews. I imagine the owner himself read my comment and immediately replied, suggesting I ignore the reviews as they were written by a competitor. He suggested I visit and would even not charge me if I felt the food was that bad.

I know restaurants are in a tough spot, especially with thin margins, and generally I get recommendations verbally from friends. However, on places I know nothing about, reviews can help a decision. Either the fellow above has serious problems or one serious hater.

  7. When the smoke is in full force, there is a local coffee shop near me that has these wonderful machines chugging away, keeping the air inside clean. Two big ones! It’s such a nice gesture that they think about their customers lungs (and our patronage).

So I thought: wouldn’t it be wise for businesses in our town to have a sign posted out front that their air inside is filtered-clean and breathable?

I did try to contact a local CM media entity to discuss a more formal CityWide concept, one that would involve local university students and a Go Fund Me drive to defer printing costs. Wouldn’t YOU kick in a few hundred baht for such a cause?

So if some enterprising Thai students want to take the ball and run with it….I think a city-wide campaign could benefit us all….and would probably generate some local and international media.

And thank you, in advance, to all the shops in Chiang Mai, that make the investment in our health.

Sorry but can't help with a Kindle repair shop here.  A few years back, though, my Kindle needed to be repaired and found out that the repair cost was outrageous.  Instead,

I bought a tablet (Samsung) which cost almost $100.00 less than the repair.  Downloaded the Kindle app and it's been great (all the functionality of the Kindle....plus essentially

    a computer to boot).

I actually recently started using my Android phone Kindle App, and for the most part am happy. I used to carry around an iPad for reading.

Unfortunately due to eyesight issues, I need a large font, so not able to support the local booksellers. Flip side, I wish Amazon would give us a break on book prices. Most times, I wait for daily Kindle deals.

So silly that someone is looking for a little advice on influenza vaccines and the anti-Covid conspiracists feel obligated to pollute the thread.

  10. In case you didn’t know the term shrink-flation instead of raising prices, let’s say on a bag of potato chips, the manufacturers just put LESS chips in the bag for the same price.

I rarely pay attention to this devious downsizing of commodities, but after I buy my liquid laundry detergent (from a Thai company) I did notice this: I always pour the liquid into an empty 8 oz. drinking water bottle and normally one package fills it right up to the tippy top. Not anymore. Slightly less this time.

Then I read today about PepsiCo possibly raising prices (again) next year. Seems like recent price changes didn’t slow down sales. Or maybe another round of shrink-flation is coming to Lays and Doritos and Gatorade. Buyer beware. ????

  11. I was thinking of small adventures to nearby cities, close to Chiang Mai. (For instance, Lamphun..) Maybe just stay for 1 to 3 days, then back to CM.

I would rather pay for luxury and safety. Maybe a seat by itself, since I’m a solo traveler in my 60’s. I’ve seen some pictures where there are double seats on one side, solo seats on the other.

I would rather take advantage of online convenience, so maybe a website suggestion.

Any particular experiences with specific services would also be appreciated.

    Much thanks in advance! ????
