  1. I have stayed in a poor village in the Norther mountains, Some families live in bamboo huts and their children dress in rags an look under nourished .

Yet, the local Monastery is building a huge new Temple paid for by these villagers , every few months there is a large procession where all the villagers march down to the Temple with their donations .

Surely their Childrens welfare is more important that a huge shiny  new Temple ?

During the day,a pair of shorts, but about knee length and usually a brand name like Lee or Dickies.A plain T shirt,I'm too old for silly logo's,and a pair of trainers or flip flops. At night time,a two tone Tommy Nutter Tonic Mohair suite(material by Dormeul Frears) a nice white or blue Ben Sherman shirt. A pair of LLoyd rRght Loafers or a pair of Sacha smooth tops or brougues. And lashings of Eau Savage or boss.

Now ask me what generation i am from,or is there anybody out there who already knows.

Fly to Vientiane, or Udon Thani then take the bus over the border is cheaper. Get dollars for the visa on arrival, it's cheaper than paying in Baht.

Go yourself by plane because visa run services take you in a minivan and it's an exhaustingly long drive / unsafe.

He could also get a coach from Bangkok to either Udon Thani or Nong Khai .

Depars from Morchit bus station , 8/9 hour journey

  6. It is usually only rogue individual Police Officers who ask for  money, it isnt the Police force as a whole . If the Policeman comes again asking for money, take his details down and ask him to attend a meeting with you him and the area chief of Police so that you can discuss how much you should have to give him, try to capture it on CCTV as well /

I do recall a story from a few weeks ago where a Policeman went into a Thai establishment and asked for money, She then called the Police and some of his colleagues came and arrested  him

       .

  7. Leaving without paying is illegal .

If the OP thought that his bill was being padded , then he should have bought this up at he time .

He did a runner and it seems like he will get away with it , I wouldnt recommend though, these situations have often ended with violence .

Some places allow food in from outside and others do not .

Restaurants generally do not, whilst bars do

  8. The OP seems to think that theres a big dividing line between prostitutes and non prostitutes .

Yes, there are prostitutes that only do prostitution and there are non prostitutes who never do it .

There also many who have a normal regular job and sometimes participate in order to supplement their job salary

These are usually ex bargirls who have gotten themselves a legitimate job or business and sometimes indulge , for the money excitement and a free night out whilst getting paid .

A similar thing happened to me recently , a female asked me out to drink a beer, which I did . She took me to a girly bar and She seemed to know everyone there . I got myself a beer and she got herself a bottle of whisky , her friend came to join us and she asked me to buy her a drink , which I did .

The another girl came to join us and she asked for a drink.

"Stop right there" "Give me my bill" It was 800 Baht .

I paid up and immediately left .

As soon as I realised that this wasnt a social drink and that I was a customer, I walked out and left

  9. I went on a bordfer run to Chiang Kong last tuesday 19 th July , my third consecutive one there .

Both previous visas wwere visa exempt stamps and I stayed for the full month and got 1 month visa extensions on both of them

I got flagged on the way back in .

    I got questionned .

Imigration asked me when I will be leaving Thailand .

I told them that I would l;eave when my new visa expires .

They told me that I couldnt stay for the whole month and that I would have to leave before it expires .

They demanded that I give them a date of when I would be leaving

So, I just said August 5 th .

They asked me to provide a ticket out the Country showing that I would be leaving on that date .

    I didnt have one .

He made me write on my arrival form that I would leave on 5 th August via Vientienne

He also wrote in Thai the same on my departure card .

He then gave me a stamp in my PP until August 17 th .

Is my agreement to leave on August 5 th legally binding ?
I only have two pages left in my PP, so I will have to apply for a new one and this will take a few weeks .

Could they hit me for an overstay fine if I leave after August 5 th ?

Also, could I get a visa extension with what he wrote on my arrival card ?
