OK I can see no alcohol, but by closing the bars they limit the supply of girls. What's up with that? :shock1:

Bars still open and you can still buy soft drinks from there .

A plain Coke with no Whisky in it or just a plain cup of water from a large plastic cup from 7/11, as long as there no alcohol in it

What is the relationship between religious holidays and enjoying a drink? Does abstinence somehow make one closer to god, if there is one? Is it showing respect? Will it make me a better person? This is just another example of 'religiosos' imposing their childish beliefs on the masses, as they do all over the world.

Probably because some of the population would spend all day drinking and there would be carnage

hmmm......maybe they need to get a real life?

Looking at all their photos, posted from around the World , most of them do seem to "have lives" .

They probably feel the same way about guys in Thailand who post photos of themselves in Pattaya bars with a beer in their hand and with a different girl every night

OK Mr know it all. If you cannot post without making numerous snidey little remarks , then I will leave it to you to take the effort to explain things to the OP, You are just coming across as annoying , childish and trying to prove that you are right all the time, even though you are quite clearly wrong .

      So, the threads yours

On TV people are not mentioning where they are and giving minute by minute details of their activities each day. They are not saying how beautiful and clever their kids are, how perfect they are and how wonderful are their spouses, posing themselves with thousands of photos and videos, what crap they like and what crap they don`t like as if anyone cares.

FB is not real life, it`s how dull people want the world to see them.

I do not have any friends like you described on FB .

It is your friends that is your issue, my friends just post the occasional photo .

Honestly now, are there people that post  "minute by minute details of their activities each day" or was you hugely exaggerating ?

So, you would rather speak to anonymous people and you yourself using an anonymous name speaking with people eon TV whom you have idea idea what they look like or where they are from, rather than conversing with real life friends ?

Real life FB isnt really for you .

FB is a great way of keeping in touch with friends who live in different parts of the World

No, they won't necessarily. Post from a position of knowledge, not conjecture.

We are talking about HIS bank account .

The Halifax and they DO charge for a foreign withdrawal .

I have inquired about that subject with them .

Whether other banks charge or not isnt the subject matter or the question asked .

That is why I wrote "YOUR UK Bank" and I didnt write *Every bank in the World*

Surely 'expat on a budget' is just the PC term for Cheap Charlie?

You are constantly trying to put other people down all the time .

Everyone is on a budget , everyone has an income that they have to spend within.

Well, apart from rich people with an endless supply of money .

SoiBiker : From your posts , you appear to be one of these super rich people who can spend spend spend and have no need to budget .

You must appreciate that not everyone has your financial means .

Anyway, you seem rather different to most rich people that I know .

Most of them keep their wealth quiet , pretend to be poor .

Whilst most of the poor tend to pretend that they are rich .

Bangkok bank do charge the standard 200 baht for an ATM withdrawal. Saw it this evening.
I also have an account with them but I know I will get charged for an 'over the the counter' withdrawal from my UK card.
I've just returned from a trip to S.America and many banks there don't charge for ATM withdrawals, thought it might be possible here.

If anyone knows of a bank that doesn't charge, I'd like to hear.

    Thanks

Your UK bank will charge you, for a withdrawal abroad  whether you use the ATM or Over the counter .

I was informed that there was one Thai bank that doesnt charge for making a withdrawal with a foreign card , though I do not remember its name .

Also, I was told that there was a free way to get money from your account back home , sending it to yourself via Paypal or something

And get a hefty cash advance fee from your local bank. A late surprise.

If the card is a debit card they will refuse to pay OTC.

Thai banks are not as stupid as some might think.

To the OP: welcome to Thailand

The ATM fee, one of the most discussed annoyances discussed here.

    150, 180 and now 200.

    Where will it end?

I read that there might be a handful of ATMs in Thailand that do not charge.

    Be prepared to travel

There is no "hefty cash advance fee" maybe it depends on whether you have cash in your account or not .

Mine is a debit card and they DO pay over the counter .

Although the cards may need to be LINK and/or CIRRUS connected

I get charged 2 or 3 % of the withdrawn money by my bank .

Bangkok Bank kiosks also can do this transaction , they stay open later than banks

I'm not trying to show off. Just pointing out that the range of 'typical' rice dishes goes beyond that assumed by some of our more frugal members - and that calling 80 Baht for such a dish 'pricey' is quite amusing.

Apparently this has somewhat struck a nerve for some people.

You really need to understand , when something costs twice as much in one establishment than it does in a place a few doors away, then indeed it is expensive (in comparison) , the actual cost is irrelevant to that point .
