High travel costs and weak flight capacity challenge Thailand’s domestic tourism targets
So AirAsia now giving 24% off all seats/All flights. Thing is the price showing the discount is up 24% from previous. Price of a flight I take is after 24% discount exactly the same as it was before the "24% discount" which is about 40% higher than 2019.

Thailand to abolish hefty import tariff on wine
My reasoning behind this is as follows. Let's make the bottle at point of sale now Bt1050. Let's make the import tarrif 50% of declared value. Declared value would be Bt700. Tariff would then be Bt350. Minus Bt35 excise from Bt700 and you get Bt665. How's my reasoning and maths? What do you think? Of course the tariff being higher than 50% the price will be reduced further.

Thailand to abolish hefty import tariff on wine
It's a very good question. From the article... "According to the government spokesperson, import tariffs on wines, which currently stands at 54% and 60% of declared value, will be abolished indefinitely. Additionally, the excise tax on wine will also be lowered from 10% to 5% of its price." A Bt1000 baht bottle would have a declared value of around Bt500ish minus bt25 in excise tax = Bt475ish. I could be and more than likely am way off the mark (maths isn't exactly a strong point of mine) but I do hope I'm right though. EDIT: No I'm wrong> I've got a headache trying to work this out. I think more likely around Bt650-bt700. That will still be good though for some decent red wine.

Thailand to abolish hefty import tariff on wine
Ahhh! Ok. Please elucidate. I can guarantee you that the cost of Australian wines here is far, far higher here than in Aus. Maybe you can explain why this is?

Thailand to abolish hefty import tariff on wine
2004 Thaksin enforced it. I had just got here. I couldn't believe it. The reasoning was to stop school children from buying alcohol between the hours of 2-5pm. Of course the midnight to 11:00 ban was also enforced at this time. It's just insane and inconvenient. Directly behind my closest 711 is a mom and pop shop. Beer is actually cheaper there and if I feel like a beer at 10 in the morning I can do just that.

Thailand to abolish hefty import tariff on wine
"It comes after the governemnt introduced a series of relaxations on booze sales. In 2022, it lifted a five-decade-long ban on alcoholic beverage sales in the afternoon between 2 and 5pm. It also extended oeprating hours for entertainment venues including nightclubs and bars to boost consumption." Since when?????????????????? Seems lifting and implementing might be two different things. As for wine a possible 60% reduction would be great if that reduction is seen at point of sale. Beer?

PM Prioritizes Higher Education and Innovation
The thing is your kid will not come home with an F. No student does. If a kid fails then their grades are manipulated so they don't. Some schools insist on a GPA >2.5 or 3. If a student falls below this then their grades must be changed accordingly. Basically a student can fail every subject and pass and students know this. Education has in the past had the largest federal budget yet teachers are underpaid, classrooms are packed and there is little to no tech in classrooms (private and international schools are different) so 21stC teaching which is what is needed is virtually impossible.

PM Prioritizes Higher Education and Innovation
Only those who do not understand point the finger at teachers. How about classrooms with 40+ students. Do you blame the teacher? What about classrooms where the most modern tech are fans, lights a blackboard and chalk. Do you blame teachers? What about the mountains of paperwork the teachers have to do. Do you blame the teachers? No fail policy. Do you blame the teachers? Let's not forget the massive corruption within the system that takes money out of education rather than putting it in. Do you blame the teachers? Maybe starting with the teachers to "improve your education system" isn't the best starting point. Problems within the Thai education system are complex and extensive. Funny how so many point the finger at the teachers.

Covid-19 Subvariant JN.1 Being Monitored
How do you know it's the mask? Maybe you've had covid and didn't know it and your immune system has protected you not the mask. Maybe you just have a strong immune system.

Covid-19 Subvariant JN.1 Being Monitored
Omicron continues to evolve. We should be thankful for that. Right now I have a dreadful cold like virus. More than likely it's a common cold virus. Had it about a month or more ago and it's back. I've had covid and this is about the same just lasting longer.

Missing British artist Millie Young is 'believed to be trapped inside' sunken tour vessel that is now 180ft beneath the waves after capsizing off Thailand
Missing British artist Millie Young is 'believed to be trapped inside' sunken tour vessel that is now 180ft beneath the waves after capsizing off Thailand She is not trapped, her body is. Not difficult to say "The body of missing British artist Millie Young is 'believed to be trapped inside' sunken tour vessel that is now 180ft beneath the waves after capsizing off Thailand". Very poorly witten headline from I suggest an under educated person.

Human trafficking ring busted: Underage girls lured to sell virginity to Chinese investors for 200,000 baht
This is a disgusting comment. The only mention about the age of the girls is underage. I'm guessing you don't for example have an eleven, twelve or thirteen year old daughter.

I'm thinking they are investors. You know, the ones that get tax breaks and buy up condos.

No extraordinary preparations for Omicron XBB.1.16 sub-variant in Thailand
Omicron's greater transimmability basically wiped Delta off the globe. Evolution in action. Your definition of weaker is incorrect. Omicron has both less severe symptoms and a way, way, way smaller chance of killing someone than Delta.

No extraordinary preparations for Omicron XBB.1.16 sub-variant in Thailand
Just another mild Omicron variant that for the vast majority of people should be of no concern. As for mask wearing well what's the point. More mild infections you get the greater your natural immunity. Of course Covid can be asymptomatic so you can get infected, have zero symptoms and your immunity still gets boosted.
