oh yes. I agree 100 %. I don't need nor desire 5 star. I was very content with some monthly rentals that had a great price. For two week stays, places sucy as Flipper Lodge or Flipper Hotel or similar hotels were great getaways and breaks from a cold North American winter. Foot massages, friendly ladies, good food from all over the world with variety. Fun night life. Some beautiful natrual scenery and parks. Get to Phuket or even Ko Samed and clean water for swimming in the ocean. Some nights out with the guys playing pool. Disco dancing was OK. Some local Thai dance and music shows such as that bar at the beginning of the entrance to walking street on the right that did Issaan stuff. BTS travel around Bangkok a great way, or was a great way to get a birds eye view. Remember being able to actually sit down! And what got me there in the first place was the ease of travel. No advance visa for entry needed. Just fly to the airport on flights from the USA that were not very expensive, get stamped in for 29 days and off you go. Plenty of English to get around. Bus service was fine with me, both local and for trips to other provinces. Pattaya good gosh, the baht bus system. What a great way to get around. Hop on, hop off. less than a buck! motobike taxi for longer rides such as ad hoc trip up to Big buddha hill.
A holiday paradis as far as I was and am concerned even with some of the nuttiness and beauracracy that crops up. Those things are not rare anywhere so no big deal. For a foreign country I felt quite comfortable with how Thailand welcomed me. Been away for two years and luckily have been working in my field and doshing up and made it to full retirement eligibility and medicare. Will be heading to Thailand soon, once things settle out a bit more
Nice post and couldn't be said any better.

Workers are abundant in Thailand, good managers are always hard to find. Its going to be a slow roll with incoming tourists so it will give time for the workers to gain the experience and skill sets needed plus time for managers to refine/reawaken their skills. A place is only as good as its manager. With the flip-flop of entry rules in Thailand its not going to be a mass invasion of tourists.

You are right. Naivety has cost me.
My sister-in-law lives in the neighbouring province (Saraburi) is there any law preventing me registering at her address and doing my visa there whilst really living at my current address? Having 2 addresses - as it were.
I would not recommend Saraburi Immigration. It is not a friendly office unless you are doing a retirement extension with money in the bank. I have done 4 Non-O married to Thai extensions and each one has been painful. Saraburi does not do 40K per month unless you have the embassy affidavit to accompany it which some embassies don't give out now even though there has been an amendment to the immigration order since the embassy policy change. Highly recommend you stay away from Saraburi unless you want the same situation you are in.

The Air Lumba To Go were freebies from the Rocco purchase and are over 4 years old and still look good and function the same. I would put due diligence into researching the quality and authenticity of the products from online shopping sites.
Looking for some nice seat covers for the Fortuner but seem hard to find. Lots of cheap ones but they cover the side airbag on the outboard of the seat which is not good.
Good luck and enjoy the Fortuner!

Forgot to add you can request to get a Vehicle Owners Manual in English through your Toyota dealer. Requested and had the English version in 2 weeks. Toyota actually follows the manufacturers recommendations for servicing as in the Owners Manual when you do your 10K interval service. Good thing about Toyota Khao Yai in Nakhon Ratchasima is there is a viewing area where you can see them service your vehicle. Have been very impressed by their service after sale.

Just bought a new Fortuner last month on four year finance. Previous vehicle was a Toyota Rocco purchased through the same Toyota Dealership.
- First class insurance was provided for one year for free. Company was Viriyah which I have not had an issue with. Replaced windshield after get a piece of steel kicked up from the road and some trim after I launched a dog into the afterlife. No issues and had both repairs done at the Toyota dealership. Go to the Toyota Dealership and renew insurance and pay road tax every year, they take care of everything for 500 baht. Getting my white plates this week and a nice lady from Toyota is going with us take care of the details.
-Have to pay for oil and labor is free is the deal. Haven't had the first oil change in the Fortuner yet but the Rocco was about 1200 baht per oil change for Toyota Semi Senthetic oil. Probably get it a bit cheaper elsewhere but I can make the appointment and be in and out quickly at the dealership. Replaced the air conditioner filter at 40K on the Rocco but the dealership wanted 1200 baht for a cheap paper filter. Got it elsewhere for 250 baht.
-Air lumbar seats looked nice but couldn't negotiate them adding it as a free accessory. Quite expensive at over 30K each. I just used the Air Lumbar To Go at 3990 baht each from my Rocco https://www.toyota.co.th/accessories/product/detail/4148 Conformable addition to already comfortable seats.

Lovely old dog but can be deadly if upset.
We have 3 good dogs, best security you can get unless it is someone they are familiar with.

Hopefully not another task at the airport where you have to wait in line at some kiosk. Remember the days at Don Muang showing up with a hangover and forgetting to get the proof of departure tax only to be sent back to get it.

Yes have been reading about it hence what stoked my question. Thai media seems to leave details out or ambiguous interpretations and never follow up on stories. The news reporting is pretty abysmal. Just curious what the law is or anyones personal experience with a breaking and entering.
Here never much worry but yabaa makes folks do things they normally wouldn't.

What is the law if you have someone breaking into your home while you are there (no extenuating circumstances such as being with someones gf/bf)? Just you at home with wife or alone. Of course defend your home but what is the law or anyones experiences? Protocol here in the village is announce yourself loudly if the lights are out and never attempt to enter unless invited after dark. Asked the local officials what would happen if someone breaks in my locked doors. Most said deadly force was authorized if someone broke in a locked house after dark. After dark seemed to be the main factor.

My wife and I have been working on completing our house and it is customary for the house to blessed by 9 monks upon completion. We are not complete building and we had a few of cobras which haven't been seen in our village in 20 years killed around our house. Family said you have to have buddha (monks) bless your house when finished. When is finished I asked? Maybe her house hasn't been blessed by 9 monks yet and that is the reason? I asked my wife what if your renting and she said not your responsibility just throw the snake out.
We live on the edge of Isaan and and a lot of superstitions real or not.

150 Thousand doses of Pfizer for 3 million Expats. US citizens got very few
Know quite a few of my US citizen friends that had Pfizer and you have no way of knowing that US citizens got very few. Some were not eligible because they received other vaccines prior to the opportunity for Pfizer. We are all in this together so quit complaining.

Always offer a hello to farangs I see about when we go shopping. Living out in the sticks mostly see farungs when we go to Pak Chong for groceries. Australians I have greeted are some good folks, always quick to say good day and engage in conversation. Some people I greet just look at me like I have three eyeballs and walk on.

Muang Narai Hospital in Lopburi is registering people today for Sinopharm jab next week. Have to show up in person, no online registration. Seems to be extra jabs left from the last round.
-
Registered through expatvac in early August and received a phone call today to schedule for Pfizer jabs (under 60 years old). Let the lady know I had received both jabs in Pattaya. Expatvac was the only place I registered so the call most likely was from it. Posting so if anyone in Saraburi is waiting there is movement.

Beautiful place by the river.
Hotels are rather small and rather noisy. Not much soundproofing in the rooms.
make sure you get a river view room. Stunning views.
You will get woken up at 5.30 am as everyone prepares for the monks to rock up.
Some nice little eating places along the river but closed rather early when we were there. 9pm.
Make sure you drive out to the Sky Walk. Well worth a visit.
Thanks for the reply! Maybe there are not a lot of folks traveling about right now hence the lack of replies.
We called some hotels and get different answers about entry requirements. One hotel said 14 days quarantine if your from a deep red zone and one said don’t worry you can come no quarantine.
I would like to get out of the house for a bit and relax with beer Laos on the river.

Chiang Khan
in Isaan
Thinking about visiting Chiang Khan during the first week of October. Are any restaurants open there? Is there Grab food available? Would like to just take a trip away from the house for a few days, not looking for entertainment or shopping, just a motel on the river to relax for a few days and drive around.
We live in Saraburi a deep red province. Hard to find current entry requirements for Loei any info would be appreciated. We are vaccinated except for my 16 year old son. Any recommendations and information would be appreciated. Never been to Chiang Khan.
-
Comparing vaccination numbers to your home country is pretty lame at this point. Good day for Thailand and looks like the vaccinations are more widespread than just the tourist areas. Lots of reports of foreigners get vaccines in out of the way provinces!

My thai wife have to pay 2000 baht per shot of Sinopharm. It is the only vaccine she could get and the province say, without to be vaccinated you are not allowed to go in to bank, amphoe etc. I have get Pfizer for free and will get my second jab before she get hers first. Very strange indeed. By the way is it not the king of Thailand who ones the company that sell Sinopharm?
What hospital did she get the jab?

My G/f has had 1st Sinopharm jab on 31/8,2nd jab scheduled for 2/10 in Nong Prue,Pattaya ...FREE.
Wonder if the free shot was part of what Pattaya bought for its residents ? What hospital was it given at or administered by?
Not concerned about having to pay. If I am concerned about 2000 baht probably should reevaluate things lol!
-
If anyone has a link to registration or location for a Sinopharm jab during October in Saraburi or adjacent provinces (Nakhon Ratchasima, Lop Buri, Nakhon Nayok) please post. Would even travel to Pattaya.
Will keep looking on the internet but any info would be appreciated.

Pay for Sinopharm?
One Bangkok hospital charged 1,544THB per jab plus 500 THB hotel fee per jab.
Our daughter paid 2000 baht for both jabs at the hospital in Lop Buri.
-
My wife (Thai) decided that she wanted to take the pay for Sinopharm jab. She can't take it until October 6th due to having her flu shot and was advised to wait at least 1 month before getting Sinopharm. If anyone has a link to registration for a Sinopharm jab during October in Saraburi or adjacent provinces please post. Will keep looking on the internet but any info would be appreciated.
Daughter received her first Sinopharm jab at Lop Buri Muang Narai Hospital and was very well organized. In and out quick, no long lines, directed parking; pretty impressed.

Ubon Joe is the pillar of good information on visa matters on this site. He just states the facts, he doesn’t make the rules. Helped me out more times than I can count.
