  1. but the government here throws out laws and then never enforces them. Not even the police follow simply traffic rules. I've spoken to two family members here who don't even know about these tax rules because they don't follow forums like this. people are just going to ignore this until it's put in front of their faces and then the authorities can figure out how to deal with all the delinquent expats which owe them money.
  2. Agree 100%. For every one sensible Thai person that thinks driving here is broken there are 100 who couldn't care less. They're out numbered and no government local or otherwise will take on the task of fixing the problem.
  3. Don't worry he calls everyone a racist. If you say "dogs like chasing sticks" no one ever once in the history of the world meant ALL dogs. When it comes to people however you need to always qualify with "not all" or you're a "racist". It's all so tiresome.
  4. Looks like an advertisement for ethnic cleansing.
  5. It doesn't matter if you can see them or not because they're not going to stop. It's literally law of the jungle with these people.
  6. Police in Thailand are either next to worthless or worse than useless so this is what I would expect.
  7. Great news, winter has been a flop this year so far. Finally saw it hit 18c again this morning.
  8. Smart move. Now she'd dead, still not a Muslim and your life is ruined. Check. Mate.
  9. I sympathize with this guy though. Thai's tend to do every they want to ignore everything around them and there's nothing you can do and no one cares. I can see this pushing people over the edge.
  10. so-called racism is just middle class white liberal morality and there's no reason to pay any attention to it anymore. It used to mean actual racial hatred targeted at entire group but now it's catch-all for not believing all people on the planet are perfectly equal in every way. Literally observing manifest reality is racist now. I have a policy that I don't want Thai people living too near me now unless they can be vetted because I've had so many problems with noise, dogs, burning etc... but that makes me a racist because "not all Thai people are the same" Yeah I know that, I don't care, it keeps happening so I'm taking evasive action.
  11. They lack discipline and emotional maturity so they can't simply slow down and accept their fate of waiting 60 seconds. Just today there is some festival in the mountains and I watched pickup trucks packed with kids in the back and rushing to overtake me while narrowly slipping though a gap while another large truck passes them. If any slight error happens they only have maybe 3 feet of distance between them and the other truck and all the kids die a horrible death. What kind of person does this? It feels like a country of reckless teenagers some days. What gets me in Chiang Mai is at traffic lights people will sneak in to the left lane to skip the line and then push their way in as the light turns green. Totally normal and no one says anything about it. How selfish are these people that they can't wait their turn and what's wrong with everyone else not being outraged?
  12. So many Thai people don't seem to develop conscientiousness in their life times. They're in a culture in which you can basically do anything and don't have to worry about the consequences or effects on others because no one will call out on your bad behavior. You could drive your whole life like the biggest dick possible and not once will the police ever stop you and very unlikely another person will even do anything. It's not just driving but burning, loud music, dogs and probably more. Why they are like this is in the first place is the big question and probably related to genetics to some degree. I wish I could get in their heads but that's impossible I think.
  13. What did they do? I'm sure I can find 3 drivers doing worse things in 10 minutes in Chiang Mai. Really hard to compare Thailand to any western country.
  14. No offense to anyone but this is what happens when you're brainwashed by egalitarian propaganda. People just can't accept that Thai's are dangerous drivers and it's their own fault. There's always some system to blame but never the individual. I've seen this many times before. Very difficult to get through to these people.
  15. does the room not have any windows? You can dry it out with AC but it will probably get moldy otherwise.
  16. Is this material used in Thailand often and it's supposed to have good noise and heat insulation right? I thought it was pretty good and more expensive than the normal red brick they use here.
  17. What age are you likely to die at or have a seriously diminished quality of life? I would look at family history and factor that in too.
  18. sounds nice thanks for the suggestion.
  19. what kind of menu are we talking about?
  20. That's not the menu I was looking for but my Thai family will probably do better with that than say American Christmas food. Thanks.
  21. yes but they're doing that because they can't control other bad drivers. If everyone followed the rules there would be no need for this.
  22. Hey guys, are there any nice hotels or restaurants that have a nice Christmas dinner/buffet available? Something on the more fancy end preferably. Thanks.
  23. It's also an indication of a total lack of rules and discipline. Seems everyone has given up long ago on having rules that people follow.
  24. If they can get 10% of all transactions made by expats that will pay for itself. If they put any thought in to this at all there must have some minimum figure their targeting. It's possible though this was just something drafted up by a few people and they never spent any time considering how it will be implemented (typical for the government here actually).
  25. that's a good point. The Thai government could require major banks to disclose Thailand-based transactions under your name. I'm sure they have loopholes in place to violate your privacy. I imagine they're going to have us volunteer our spending and if the numbers are too low you'll get pulled aside.
