7-Eleven in Thailand Reports Record Income of 399 Billion Baht in 2023
I wish 7-11 here had more fast food like in America, like hotdogs, nachos, pizza and donuts. yeah it's junk food but it's still nice to get every so often and while on the road.

7,500 electric bill for the month
running AC at 22 in a bedroom for 8 hours a night is not expensive (unless you're in some ripoff condo perhaps). Something like 1100 baht a month. If that helps you sleep then it's totally worth it.

7,500 electric bill for the month
that's crazy, how big is your space? If you need 65000 BTU to cool your house then your living area must be too large, like an open office with 100 sqm or more.

7,500 electric bill for the month
BS they're lying. You could find out how much one of those AC units should in theory use in one hour and calculate how many units at the stated price you would need to use in order to get a 7000 baht bill or laughably a 14,000 baht bill.

7,500 electric bill for the month
During the summer my house in CM is running AC nearly 20 hours per day and it still only comes to 2500 tops. Even if you doubled my rate to 10 baht a unit it couldn't reach 7000 baht. Condos are easier to cool than a house also so something is seriously wrong with that bill.

That's racist. SE Asian farmers have an IQ of 70, not 40.

Controversy erupts as Thai doctors clash over mRNA vaccine effect
that was typical propaganda aimed at the public to demonize their critics. It's amazing how people who were skeptical of pharmaceutical corporations their whole life line up for their new hastily tested product. Not as if they ever settled class action lawsuits for previously dangerous drugs. It can't happen this time I'm sure.

Thailand braces for intense heat with temperatures soaring
After this report I was expecting our first warm night of the year yesterday but it's 14c this morning in Samoeng. One of the colder days of the year in fact considering this was a mild winter.

OMG I checked the thermometer outside and it's reading 31C.

Thailand braces for intense heat with temperatures soaring
We don't know what they really believe because if they said anything their jobs would be in jeopardy. It's like the Soviet Union all over again. Once the narrative crumbles everyone will insist they really believed it was BS all along. Similar thing has been happening with COVID recently.

How you use AC at night?
Whatever you do don't cheap out your sleep to save money. It's far too important to get this one part of your life wrong.

PM2.5 Levels Soar in Bangkok
How is BKK worse than the north? Cambodia is too backwards to even bother measuring it seems but the smoke must be coming from there right, or is it from burning within Thailand in nearby provinces? I haven't seen any big forest fires yet but that's only because the usual suspects having decided to burn yet.

Expat Tax Twists in Thailand: Navigating the New Landscape in 2024
If you're employed by a US company then they notify the IRS every year of your earnings regardless of where you are living. If you're evading taxes that's another matter of course. Many so-called digital nomads fall in to this category and will be paying taxes like anyone else in the US.

Expat Tax Twists in Thailand: Navigating the New Landscape in 2024
They're probably going to have to get immigration involved but if they can't achieve that then they'll have to keep track of foreigners and audit them. I assume they'll at least make us file an affidavit at immigration stating we paid taxes.

Expat Tax Twists in Thailand: Navigating the New Landscape in 2024
for reference here are the current US federal income brackets. State income tax varies from 0 to 13%. A median US family earns 75,000/year and individual 30,000. The individual is earning 1 million THB per year. Not sure which rate they would pay in Thailand. My wife earns ~50k THB/month and pays 14% she says. EDIT: there is also a standard deduction which is first applied to the total earnings.

Expat Tax Twists in Thailand: Navigating the New Landscape in 2024
True or false? Anyone living here earning a median American income will be taxed at the maximum rate (35%) and apply to all imported money. Depending on how the dual tax treaty works out you're probably paying around 30% tax on your income (state + federal) and so they will use the difference of the two rates to calculate your liability, around 5%.
