I am considering renting a car, something like Honda City or Toyota Vios, in Penang or Kuala Lampur. I'd rent it for about 1 month and travel around the island and return it to the same city. Does anyone have any experience, positive or negative, renting a car in Malaysia?

Dear Mayor, please place public trash cans along all walkways and public spaces, so people can conveniently discard unwanted material. The only street in Pattaya that has public trash cans is Beach Road. Please also empty the trash can daily or whenever they get full and make sure they large enough to contain all the garbage that might deposited into them.

The first option doesn't require too much thinking. But if you really want to know your exemptions then sit down and calculate your exemptions and determine you exemption threshold. You may find that your getting excited over nothing. Then you'll also need to look at your home country's DTA to understand what forms of income are off-limits to the Thai government, for example, the US Social Security payment is only taxable by the US government per the US-Thai Dual Tax Agreement, so then you only have to worry about other earned income like your pension or capital gains.
Use this form, and crank out a "test scenario" and then you'll know. In my own case I don't remit anything close to my exemption threshold of 560K THB, so I don't worry about it.
Thai_Tax_Form.pdfThat form is very confusing. At the top it says Personal Income Tax Return for taxpayer with only income from employment
under Section 40 (1) of the Revenue Code OnlyBut in section A it wants you to enter "Salaries, wages, pensions etc. (Plus exempted income from 5.)"
Pensions are not income from employment.
Are there multiple versions of the Thai Personal Income Tax Return forms? I am retired , not employed.

Go to the provincial court to consult a lawyer, onsite, who will provide a consultation, free, for 30 minutes. Sometimes these free guys are useful and sometimes they are useless.
You can personally file a case with the Kwaeng Court, no lawyer needed, but everything needs to be filed in Thai language. I don't know the location of the Kwaeng court in Bangkok. In Pattaya, it is adjacent to the Provincial Court, on Thappraya Road. Basically, the cost is very small, like paying delivery charges for the court summons, etc.
Use this court as the first step in all legal proceedings. If you decide to go to a higher court, that court will look favorably upon you in that you tried to resolve the matter seriously before coming to the higher court.

Not only this time of year.......The beach walkway has pretty much no people there sunrise to sunset 365 days a year except festival days......
They made the beach unusable during daylight hours...
This is exactly what the people in Pattaya City Hall want, basically nobody to use the new walkway during daylight hours. This is supposed to be the way to attract tourists and residents. Amazing Thailand.

I disagree. Look at that motorbike - he has a nice clear run all along the pavement without any pesky pedestrians getting in his way. Putting trees up could ruin his enjoyment and he might end up having to use one of the 3 lanes available on the road instead.
And the motorcycles are on the pedestrian walkway everyday and night, which is illegal. The Police know it and do nothing about it. In fact, that driver drove right past the Police station on the walkway.

The Finn should have loaned the money for land and to build the house and registered a mortgage on the house and property, in addition to the usufruct. If things go south with sweety or her family, it will be a horrible place to live with all neighbors who don't like you. At least he can leave and still expect partial recovery of his funds through the mortgage, either periodic payments or a foreclosure. She could make monthly or annual payments on the mortgage, he could return the funds to her, if she is still a good girl.

Send her to Pattaya, she will fit in very very well. We welcome her with open arms, and hopefully, with her legs wide open.

She looks to be in decent shape. Lots of lonely men in Phuket would love to entertain her in their accommodation, if she behaved a little better in public. Of course, all sharp objects and valuables would need to secured before her arrival.

Since they can't replicate Singapore, they opt to pour concrete over as much as possible, install floodlights and destroy anything that might be the color green. At least it kind of looks like it then.
It seems many Thai don't understand that the trees not only look beautiful, reduce earth's surface temperature, consume carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, the stuff that all humans and animals required to live.

How is this project being financed? Is Thailand borrowing the money from China?
The China-Thailand high speed railway goes through Laos. Laos has been devastated with debt burden imposed by the Chinese railway. Lots of government revenues are going to service the debt (pay the interest) and other infrastructure is suffering from a lack of maintenance. Highways are a wreck, government is making special concessions to China just to get some more revenue to pay for railway. The train fares are reasonable based on Laos salaries but don't even cover the operating costs, and contribute nothing for repaying the capital investment.
Is Thailand being sucked into the rabbit hole?

He knew what he was doing. String the POS up.
These small town cops like to just sweep the incident under the carpet. They have little intention of finding the shooter, which is probably one of their friends who wants the concession.

What is the design specification for these mini splits as for temperature differential between the outside temperature and air temp. coming out of the evaporator inside the house? Also does the differential depend on the refrigerant?

Attached are a few pics of Lat Krabang beach which is just north of Pattaya. It has of lots of free public benches and lots beautiful shade trees. Why can't pattaya beach have lots free public benches/seats in the shade? Why can't shade trees be planted on the beach so people can sit on the beach, free of charge, in the shade? Other beaches near Pattaya have lots of shade trees, lots of free public seating? Why do we have to pay vendors for a seat in the shade? Those beach road ugly palm trees with spikes and thorns sticking out the bottom when they are short, provide very little shade. NNG sold those trees to Pattaya because they couldn't sell them to anyone else for many years. It's practically impossible to walk down beach road pedestrian walkway 11am - 3pm because it's too hot and there is no shade.

If Thailand had a more efficient railway system, a non-stop freight train could travel from northern to southern Thailand in less than 2 days.

I have had a RO system for about 10 years. Get the one with a clear case for the sediment filter, so you can easily see when to replace it. I also have UV light as the first stage, before the sediment. So technically, to make the drinking water from the city water: 20 micron sediment (used for all water entering the condo), UV light, then into RO setup of 3 filters, RO membrane, post carbon, resulting in drinking water. Membrane is rated for 2500 gallons. Takes about 2 min. to fill a 1.5L bottle. I use about 1 gallon per day.

Thailand should be looking to Canada and USA for LNG supplies. LNG Canada is coming online soon, with 2 trains, overall plan is 6 or 8 trains. There are about another 3 LNG plants planned for west coast Canada. Massive pipeline to LNG Canada has been completed. Lots of natural gas, which can be processed and liquefied into LNG, in Canada and USA. Also, there is a huge LNG plant in Papa New Guinea, owned by Exxon. Lots of LNG available, and more coming online and available for export. If you need to import a critical resource, it's always important to diversify sources, plan ahead for supply disruptions, even if it costs more.
The new proposed plants are looking for funding and partners. Original partners will control the cost of the LNG. Thailand could get it cheaper than buying it from an intermediary, if they invested.

From what I frequently read in this forum re Thai men, it seems like he knows the culture well enough and was behaving along with lowbrow Thai male behaviour, so why should his penalty be so tremendously much more than it would be for a Thai? I'd be very surprised to hear if a Thai man had to pay more than 500-1,000 (maybe a little more since they both have money and inflated egos to go with it) with a deep wai and apology for such a simple issue. Is that considered an excuse? It isn't an excuse for his behaviour, but it should be reasoning to appeal to logical, even handed treatment by the authorities.
Whether Anutin's statement is mainstream or not is another story. But I have words for Anutin that would be better not to put into print. It's because his actions also caused social unrest, hundreds of people protesting against him and what he did. Thailand doesn't need or want mobs protesting. Also, he tried to circumvent justice by using his and his wife's influence and wealth. When hundreds of Thai get upset of what you do, you can expect more than a slap on the wrist. A 1,000 baht fine for Fehr is nothing, his company, co-owed by his wife, had revenue exceeding 40,000,000 baht last year.

Anutin is just trying avoid wasting Thai administration resources and Fehr's money. Fehr's visa has already been canceled and even if the appeal is successful in a court, Anutin indicates he can deport Fehr.
Anutin is also sending a clear message to all foreigners, Thailand doesn't tolerate foreigners who assault Thai people and try to buy their way out of situations that causes social unrest.

Lots of HISO people here seem to want to crucify him for have an urgent need to discard some bad food. You don't know the reasons why he did for what he did, and perhaps you haven't had an emergency situation like he experienced. He didn't mean to tarnish Buddah, he just used what was available to return to respectable state in society.

Beach Road has been ripped up, as bad or worse, than shown above, 3 times in the last 10 years. Your photos show a complete replacement or new construction of the complete walkway, not a rip-up, in my opinion.
In about 3+ years, maybe sooner, there will be some new reason to rip up the street again. After all, the new multiple million baht storm sewers on Beach Road are still inadequate and the street floods multiple times and washes away many parts of the beach, each and every year. So they need to be replaced or redesigned causing replacement of walkways, roadways, perhaps even some utilities. The huge temporary pumps aren't adequate, are an eye sore and are an after thought to try to compensate for inadequate engineering design.
I don't know anything about what others have stated, the brown envelopes need to keep flowing, to support payments for certain fancy houses, cars, etc. I imagine lots are currently flowing from the Jomtien beach road job, and will continue for 2 or 3 years. They could double-up the take, by finding/making new reasons.

80 baht for a Leo or Chang small bottle is pretty pricey. In LK metro, some bars have the small bottles for 50-55 baht. Even Beach Road bars sell for the smalls for 70 Baht.
