The European Court Of Human Rights ruled against the plaintiff on the UK Government on indexed linked pension payments to those living abroad in 2008.

Australia decided to abandon any social agreement with the UK on this issue .

I think there needs to be a case taken to the UN human rights court in Geneva to reverse that decision by Australia .

Australia has over the years gradually tightened the screw for pensioners and not only for those living overseas.

The Government pension is means tested so it matters not how much tax you paid, I like many others are denied the pension as we are considered “ too rich”.

For those who decide to retire overseas you face additional hurdles if you haven’t lived continuously in Australia for the two years prior to your application or don’t live there for two years after receiving the pension.

I think there are many of us who be happy to live under the UK pension regime, unfair as it may appear.

Good luck to him. We need a lot more variety in the wines that are available, amongst other things.

PS. I'm getting p****ed off seeing Nick Faldo continuously!

I don’t see any shortage of varieties of imported wine in Chiang Mai, the only issue is that due to the tax regime it is at least double the price that you would pay in other countries.

I would expect the Covid insurance to remain for a spell, but at some point to be withdrawn. The insurances obligated by particular Visas, O-A, O-X and O-A Retirement Extensions is another consideration.

I see on this site today a news item that states from May 1 the insurance amount will be reduced to US$ 20,000 and the second Covid test can be self administered

    The back flip has begun.

On a different problem, but at least as annoying.

We live in a gated community and our house is on the front road. In the Soi,one house down from us an old woman lives who breeds cats. That house backs onto the side of ours. Her front garden looks and smells like a refuse tip.

Sometimes the stink is really bad. So frequently we cannot use the patio on that side of our house. And we get a lot of cat poo in our garden.

My wife is on the Village Committee, she says several complain about the smell but there doesn’t seem to be much that can be done.

Someone mentioned that a saucer of antifreeze can get rid of the smell but I don’t see how.

If the cats drink the antifreeze I don’t think you will have any more problems, as it’s lethal to cats and dogs.

    What was your original visa.

    A non O-A or Non O.

For extensions to non O obtained at immigration then insurance is not required.

For extensions to non O-A  insurance is required.

Any entry into Thailand requires insurance currently.

BTW if married an extension to non O-A based on marriage does not require insurance.

My original Visa was issued by the Embassy in Sydney but so many years ago cannot remember, but have never taken out Insurance related to it

Ubonjoe has issued a response which further clarifies the matter.

The Thailand Pass site and others state it as $50,000 US for covid 19 insurance coverage.

There is no real rule that states you need it for your entire length of say if living here long term. You do not even need to put a departure date if you select returning to Thailand when registering for the Thailand pass.

Immigration does not enforce the covid 19 insurance requirement when entering the country. Many people have entered with only 30 days of covid 19 insurance.

Thank you for clarifying the position.
I have no intention of traveling until some form of normality returns, if that ever happens, however good to Know the requirements.

Your non O marriage will mean that you will be stamped into Thailand for 90 days.

Some folk purchase insurance to cover that period.

Some folk have used 30 day cover. That has also worked.

Once in Thailand extentions do not require covid insurance..

The non O-A extentions require health insurance however that's not your concern, having a non O.

BTW you do not require onward flight as you have a visa.

I’m interested in your comment that once in Thailand extensions do not require Covid insurance.

My understanding is that to obtain a Travel Pass you need insurance of Baht 1.5m for the period that you are stamped in for.

So if I have a retirement Extension, leave the country for a month, then when I return the extension has say six months life left I need insurance for that period.

On this occasion would be happy to be wrong with my understanding of the requirement.

believe the real constant problem is farang applying western standards & rational preventative culture to the irrational corrupt fatalistic “ no rules” culture in place here. Resistance is futile. Adapt Protect Relax here or be forever conflicted & stressed …like many I know here……

I certainly agree with the last paragraph, resistance and arguing is futile,

(as it often is with the wife).

Its easier to go with the flow, sometimes with a brown envelope to help the flow.

I read it as saying there are no laws requiring the wearing of masks, despite the CCSA saying people could be fined for not wearing them.Further that the wearing of masks is beneficial and legislation requiring the wearing of masks could be considered in the future.

I think these announcements are probably  released in Thailand and some is lost in the translation.

The above should have said “Thai” not “Thailand”

    Pays to check before

The Australian Embassy no longer serves Australian residents here in any manner at all, as far as I can see. They will not give Australians certification letters of their address in Thailand, required for a Thai Driver's License. The Yellow Book and Pink Card are accepted in lieu of a Certification Letter.

The Honory Consul in Chiang Mai continues to provide excellent service and assistance, in areas that are within his authority.

You really have struggled with the idea of an online forum specifically designed for discussion...

It is important that we all share our views....  I find it extremely valuable to know that some people of such moronically flawed mindsets walk amongst us....  It’s important that everyone knows there are utter fools out there who have no idea they are utter fools....

You sound very much like my former wife, she was very opinionated ,tried to tell people how to live their lives and often became insulting when she didn’t like their response.

Like I said to her “stay out of other peoples lives and get one of your own”

    Goodbye

Looks like a few retirees won’t be returning to Thailand due to these regulations, often the Baht 800,000 deposit requirement was a struggle to meet !

I think there will be some who certainly will not be be leaving Thailand, as I understand in order to obtain the Travel Pass to return you have to have Health Insurance Cover of Baht 1.5m.

I know of three retirees who have tried to obtain Health Insurance cover and were denied due to age/ existing conditions

I am curious as to what freedoms you enjoy here that you cannot in Australia?

Australia has become a Nanny State, the list is endless with three tiers of government for just under

    25million people.

Its no wonder nearly all industry has gone overseas.

Just a couple of examples, if I wanted to prune a tree in my garden I had to pay the local council to send someone to inspect the tree and give me permission.

If I wanted to make changes to the house including even a larger window I had to seek permission.

The local council would send a letter to close neighbors asking if they objected.

Does that give you some idea and they are only minor issues

Of course not... because you can predict the future... a kid will never come into your area, right ?

Of course, no one does... In fact I’m going to get a Pit Bull to protect our house from all those people trying to get in and attack my Wife and I.....   its a small price to pay if a kid gets attacked... right ?

Are you suggesting your house requires the same protection has a high-target government facility ??

Thats all a bit too much ’its our right to bare arms and defend our property and our rights’ type spiel...

You mean...  even kids should know to stay out and they won’t have their face chewed off by a dog with can’t tell the difference between a harmless child and a burglar....

My Jack Russells over the many years I have kept them have never bitten any human.

I don’t need you to tell me how to live my life.

It sounds to me that you are suffering from a severe state of Nanny State Syndrome always trying to interfere and foist your views on others.

One reason I chose to leave Australia was because of the Government and people like you.

Couldn't be from the UK by any chance, had a lot of whinging Poms in Australia.
