Why was it a mistake to talk to other expats as it only applies to them they are the appropriate people to ask I have had one for about 15 years and there are no 'cons' plus it never needs to be renewed. I have found it very useful and no need to use the passport for ID in many situations It has got me into Thai places at the Thai rate or for free and in Chiang Mai Province can renew licences without the Immigration Residence Certificate.

I don’t which part of Australia you are from but in all the years I lived there tipping was always practiced, in my experience Australians are generous in that regard.

Thanks for that response in my case I use my Australian passport in Thailand for the retirement extension but obviously I am in the minority.

I hold both Australian and UK citizenships and passports as does my daughter. I recently lodged applications to renew both passports which has to be done through VFS. I have a brother who lives in Australia who also holds dual citizenship and passports. Last week he lodged an application to renew his UK passport in Sydney which he was able to lodge online with the UK passport office at a lower cost and no need to attend the VFS office for lodgment and collection. Any idea why two different requirements ?

I have been trying for three days to register with VFS Chiang Mai to renew my daughters UK passport. The site will not accept my application and none of the help line email addresses or contact numbers are valid. Had anyone had similar experiences or any suggestions Thanks

I don’t know which company you use or from where you are transferring but I transfer money every month from Australia using OFX money cannot be transferred on a weekend or on public holidays at either end. Its no big deal just plan ahead.

I agree that Thailand is ultra national conservative however in the 15 years I have lived here I have seen quite an increase in younger people speaking English and children attending additional classes outside of school to learn English. My daughter attends such classes where they are taught to read phonetically. If only the government schools did the same.

Try obtaining a job in one of the professional fields particularly medicine, or with an international company if you don't have good English skills and see where you end up. No problem if you want to be a farmer, labourer.

The majority of tourists who visit Thailand are visa exempt and the changes that have been made do not affect them, the majority do not stay beyond the 30 days granted. I would suggest that the people who are complaining are those trying to stay here on a permanent basis under the guise of being a tourist.
