Spitting mad: Russian tourist’s traffic light tantrum in Phuket
Sig replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
I'm assuming you read the article, but maybe missed part of the point. The Thai driver was in a right turn only lane that had its own signal. And apparently they were stopped, but the other lanes had a green. The issue seems to be that the foreigner was the clueless one, not the Thai driver. I had only mentioned that IF a driver needed to have their attention brought back to driving and off their phone or just being distracted, a light beep on the horn should suffice. There is absolutely ZERO reason for this foreigner's behavior. Yelling, spitting, and incessant honking is antisocial behavior. I couldn't care less if the foreigner had a point, although according to the article, it would appear that he didn't have a point, but that he was the clueless one. Not sure where you get the idea that honking is not appreciated in Thailand. My Thai friends give a beep, for safety purposes, VERY VERY frequently. Incredibly more frequently than I've ever experienced in Canada or the US, where it tends to get used by impatient people who can't control themselves more than anything else. At any rate, it's irrelevant in this case since the Thai driver appears to be completely in the right and the foreigner had no reason at all for his foolish antics, other than his own cluelessness and mental state. -

That's a reasonable question, but it wouldn't matter one way or the other for this issue. She was stopped in a right turn only lane, apparently. No need to have her indicator on, although it would be nice. Anybody in that lane, stopped and waiting, as was the Thai driver, should have known (if they were paying attention) that lane was a right turn only lane and had its own traffic signal. But even if one wasn't paying attention and was a clueless driver, the foreigner's behavior is inexcusable. -

What is wrong with people!? Can't even wait to see if maybe a person's car has mechanical issues and can't move, even if they wanted. As if horn honking spasmodic yelling will help their car move? If they needed to be woken up or have their attention brought back to the road... a light little beep on the horn should suffice. People let themselves get stressed out by the most inane things! Lots of mental problems out there. If someone is honking incessantly or yelling at you on the road, stay away from them. They are obviously mentally unbalanced, as there is zero need to behave that way, EVER. -

Tiresome, indeed. FYI, I mentioned "colloquial English" and nothing regarding "colloquialism". You appear not to know the difference. No problem. I suppose that perhaps many people don't. But for one who has a self-professed "A level" English...? It makes it easier to understand why you don't seem to be able to grasp what I explain. You seem to have a foreign understanding of what it means to "berate" someone, as well. You were the one who came at me with unfounded, derogatory accusations. My comments were focused on explaining in order to come to an understanding. But you refuse. No problem. You can stick to your ideological Hobby Horse as much as you like, and continue refusing any attempt at genuine dialog, but rather just run amok accusing nonsense of those you think you understand. It's your freedom. Use it as you like. It doesn't seem to be particularly useful or productive, but that's up to you. Maybe someday that chip on your shoulder will wear down and get a bit smoother. I'm done. -
Over 80 patients flee Krabi drug rehab centre over alleged abuses
Sig replied to webfact's topic in Krabi News
Doubtful. Well... they might want to investigate to make sure the officers have taken enough of their paid leave. Then after they take some paid leave, reassign them to a more comfortable, lesser know facility where they can continue their "work". I doubt any investigation would go any further than that. -

Sounds more like a CIA Rendition kind of place than a prison.... Thailand was known to have black sites, hosting the CIA, so it wouldn't be anything corrupt officials in those kinds of places might not be used to. Sadly, the story isn't surprising. -

That being the case, I'm sorry that I misunderstood what it appeared to me you were implying. In light of that, there was nothing that you wrote in your comment that I disagreed with at all. -

While it may not be what you are used to in colloquial English, it is not incorrect. Sure, it could be stated more clearly, but I was under the, perhaps mistaken, assumption that you understood the context well enough to grasp the point. There was nothing that so "clearly suggests" I make no exceptions, other than your reading between the lines. A lack of qualification does not equate to some sort of fact that no qualifications exist in the writer's mind. It would be arrogant in the reader's part to come to such a conclusion. And yet another accusation with no basis? This is tedious.... I don't mind my opinions being challenged, whatsoever. You were not doing so. You STILL don't seem to grasp that point. You were making derisive accusations, blatantly made from whole cloth, not challenging an opinion. Imagine that! A free English lesson? lol If being ridiculously picky, there are no less than 5 grammatical errors in your final sentence alone, let alone the rest of your "A level" English awesomeness! I'll pass on any further lessons, thanks anyway. We disagree, apparently, on the idea of suicide being selfish. We also seem to disagree on how generalizations are to be made and understood or not. Fine. Have a nice day. -

I think you miss the point that I was making a generalized statement and that I don't expect it to be the case for 100% of suicides. Similar to your generalized statement that is nowhere near 100% AT ALL about people contemplating suicide not thinking logically or rationally. Many had been thinking it through very logically and very rationally for a long time and even planning out their funeral, their family's future finances, etc. It was not intended at all to be a condescending charge to state that it is selfish. In my opinion that is simply an objective viewpoint. It is what it is. -

Understanding depression is beside the point. And I never intimated anything at all about this fellow, whether he committed suicide or not. I was replying to some of the ideas posted here in general about suicide. I never speculated on the cause of this man's fall. I have no reason to believe he committed suicide. If he did, it is likely that he would have been in the state that you mentioned and it would be horrible. You sure do assume a lot from my comment that I didn't say nor imply. -

I posit the trul selfish stance is trying to impose your beliefs on the wishes of others regarding their OWN life. It is theirs ,and theirs alone not yours. But you would impose an agonizing ,drawn out end to the life of one with a terminal illness? On what basis? Perhaps your belief in an unsubstantiated imaginary friend ? Perhaps English isn't your first language? And/or a severe chip on your shoulder from which such a toxic attitude exudes toward people that have differing ideas from you rather than being able to converse like a mentally stable person. If you try reading my comment again, you'll see that I did none of how your baseless accusations attempt to paint me. I stated my belief. I never tried to impose my beliefs on anyone. And I never said anything about imposing some sort of agonizing, drawn out end to a life of one with terminal illness. And you come out of left field with some wacko idea about an imaginary friend? It seems more likely that you have some sort of imaginary friend feeding you all sorts of deceptive ideas in order to get the meaning you took from my comment. Seriously unhinged. -

But I'm tellin' ya, they are missing the boat and need to get their focus right! Attracting all those Kazakhstan tourists is where it's at! If I remember right, that was a focal point at one time... it appears somebody has dropped the ball big-time! Kazakhstan must have something similar to the Labubu doll and they'll be a smash hit!🤑📈💲💲💲💲💲💲 -

Thai lifeguards nab American phone thief at Kata Beach
Sig replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Yeah! That is how some people feel about their phones! Like their entire existence depends on their phone! I sure would love to see a Monty Python sketch revolving around the insanity of how people's very meaning of life seems to be dependent on their phones. -

I believe that suicide, whether assisted or not, is one of the most selfish acts a human being can do. While I can definitely understand many situations where one may feel like doing such a thing, in the end, it is phenomenally selfish. -

The English of the reports on this site provide enough amusement in itself to read articles, even if the topic is of no interest! I guess it's good to know that the individual fell from a height rather than just from the floor they were standing on....🤡 -

"The woman dearly attempted to reclaim her phone... pulling at his shorts..." That was some kind of affection being exercised so "dearly"... I don't know how one could come up with this kind of writing, even using a dictionary!? How on earth can that word possibly work in this scenario!?- 81 replies

Swedish man arrested for 972 days overstay in Thailand

Scum like this need more than merely deporting. Breaking and entering/trespassing alone is a serious offense in my book, but death threats? Yeah, that's a hard no. Give someone a credible death threat under circumstances like that and I'd say at least a month or two in jail and then mandatory deportation with a 10 year ban. How do imbeciles like this continue to be able to live illegally for so long!? I'm guessing that he likely has caused many other problems, but people just haven't bothered taking the time reporting or filing complaints against him. In a way I can understand that. Nobody (normal people) wants to get involved in such dirty stuff and wants to live their life in peace. It's a lot easier to just turn away from problems. Unfortunately, this often gives license to fools like this and they go on to cause problems in society. -
Yeah, I think that is easily possible to get lax when you work with large amounts of gold every day for decades. A friend of mine's grandfather was murdered while transporting a large amount of gold from his gold shop. If I was transporting the amount of gold that he was, I sure wouldn't have been doing it alone and my situational awareness would have been on extremely sensitive mode. But for him, it was just another day, unfortunately, his last one.
