  1. If Thai reporters are anything like how things are getting in many parts of this insane world, the 9 "men" very well could have been biological females, but being "Tom", they may prefer to identify as "men". Things are so bizarre these days, there is even a high school by a relative's house in America that has at least one student identifying as a cat, and they actually have a litter box for the mentally whacked kid for his/her toilet! I am NOT joking. As unbelievable as it sounds... this is what things have come to with this whole thing of affirming mentally ill people in their illness. So, maybe that figure of 18 individuals, made up of 9 "men" and 8 "women", isn't off after all! Maybe the uncounted outlier is a self-identifying cat.
  2. Quality tourist cosplay
  3. Totally agree. The level of cynicism on here is verging on the point of mental instability and definitely unhealthy. To a degree, it can be understandable, but it is completely unnecessary to spout so much unbelievable cynicism at such a horrific accident, particularly when one does not know AT ALL what the cause may have been. The driver may have been very capable and responsible. There are a host of reasons this could have happened that don't include negligence or incompetence. And if that many people died in the accident, it's pretty likely that the driver is among the poor souls that perished. It is so incredibly crude to cast aspersions on the deceased, especially when it is complete conjecture, expecting the worst of the person about which one knows absolutely nothing. So many uncouth classless people seem to be drawn like a magnet to social media. What could be such a better point of access for a tighter knit community becomes a cesspool. RIP to so many and condolences to those who knew them.
  4. Seems like a picture perfect Thai-style case of slander....
  5. Dangling cables on the roadways are another aspect of Thainess that takes acculturation to appreciate properly. Once that is accomplished, one will no longer accidentally drive into such cultural artifacts.
  6. You automatically assume every foreigner's Thai wife is a hooker??
  7. A new trend in tourism preparedness.... Bring your own Fire Extinguisher!
  8. Whatttttt????? Are you serious? Or just going off on a faked irrational rant to make some sort of point that I am not grasping? You say, "...i believe such VERY common behaviors on planes should be understood..." Well, perhaps my life experience is not expansive enough... but I've never witnessed these "VERY common behaviors on planes" - lighting blankets on fire or stripping on the plane... My life experience is apparently so terribly limited that I've never even had the opportunity to experience such amazingly common behaviors anywhere at all, let alone on planes! I feel like I've been cheated! Maybe I should go start a good old-fashioned genocide. Will that help me understand both sides of a story? Do they sell woke pills at the local pharmacy? Where can I get some of that stuff!?
  9. No idea what your response is pertaining to....? The comment I replied to had nothing to do with anything about regulations or what may or may not be allowed. I was responding to your comment, "What's wrong with a lighter?" To which I said, "The obvious! Somebody might attempt to light a blanket on fire." If you'd read and remembered the story, you'd get the gist of my comment.
  10. The obvious! Somebody might attempt to light a blanket on fire.
  11. That's one hell of a load of male cattle dung.
  12. You might notice sometime that you don't even need to be going over 10kph to fall on a motorcycle, smack your helmetless head, and die.... It's not a "mystery" at all. Leaving rice drying on the road is more than a "disturbance" and can become a very "big issue" - as witnessed in this case and many others. I don't think it is right to say, "...how one can kill himself by riding into a pile of rice." It is more accurate to say that the rider is killed by the negligence of the farmer.
  13. Yeah, it'd be more interesting and exciting to go back to the frequent shower electrocutions, driving or even walking into construction holes at night, etc, etc, etc We wouldn't want to impose what we might think of as logic onto their paradigm!
  14. Maybe the banks should give their tellers a day or two a week off from bank work and have them go work in the bars on those days. They can make a few extra bucks and learn some English! It's a win all the way around! Their customer service interaction in English at the banks will be light years ahead of any other white collar business! Then they'll probably get recruited to work in some other area of the financial world. What an awesome career move that could be.
  15. You don't say!! "strong unease" now that's some unexpected news! Shocking....
  16. Not sure what kind of roads Thailand had centuries ago, but I doubt any oxcart driver would have had any sort of problem as compared to vehicles of today. Just because there's some sort of tradition, it doesn't mean it is wise to keep it when society is virtually unrecognizable in how the people are living in comparison to those idealized past times, which were far from ideal. It is utter foolishness to allow rice to be dried on public roads, unless the village/town/city has some sort of parameters in place to safely block the roads off for such a purpose. And that kind of organization, as simple as it may be.... NOT gonna happen in Thailand. Too complicated and you gotta think too much to accomplish it.
  17. Someone in government showed symptoms of common sense!? I hope that's contagious! And hope they don't snap out of it. How on earth could one ever think having foreign police on your soil would be a good idea, especially from mafia-like communist tyrants whom the citizens under their thumb might actually be glad to be out from under their purview for a bit and be able to relax and enjoy life on vacation for a bit???
  18. Ok, so you're going to feign as though you only read the first of the two linked articles and try saying you were only referring to that one and didn't know that the other article gave information contrary to what you wrote? And even that first article doesn't line up with what you said! You said, "she said that she didn't know the full details." It didn't say that. As you've quoted above... it said, "she was unsure". But according to your other posts, it is clear that you were aware (but thanks for playing the feign game) and had read at least part of the second linked article and would have been aware that it said that she "could not recall the specifics" (emphasis added). But you had to go on doing your thing even though it is clear that is not the case, even according to what you yourself posted and presumably read (see copied posts below displaying your folly). It's reasonable to presume you read it because you felt the need to include your snide remark to a person that "we're all able to read the, very clear, OP." Well... if you're able to read it and it's very clear, then what in the heck are you going on about!?!? That very thing that is so very clear, which you're able to read said, "she could not recall the specifics" (emphasis added). Nothing in either article about "knowing"! Back to your post/comment policing of anything not oh so very clear content with your impeccable reading acumen. Do better.
  19. Not sure what article you read.... In the article that was linked, it said, "Worasuda also revealed that two days before the incident, an individual had been enquiring about the bar worker at their workplace. However, she could not recall the specifics of that interaction." (emphasis added) As you were... go ahead and get back to correcting everyone's comments.... Edit: And I subsequently saw following posts where you doubled down or should I say tripled down (were there more?) adamantly certain that it wasn't recalling that was the difficulty. It was knowing?? Before being so vigorous in defending yourself or wantonly throwing criticism about, you may want to double check the point your are going on about. But, that's up to you. Carry on.
  20. YES! Definitely CAN! See my previous post, just before this one to get your benefit!
  21. Ok, here's a breakdown to save you time as you rush out to get your lottery tickets! License plate numbers: 4348 - 8591 - 2884 - 4546 - 9099 - 5057 (The first one perhaps being the best choice, since it's the one that caused the mess.) 12 casualties, 8 men and 4 women = 1284 "a major multi-vehicle (6) accident occurred on Highway 304" = 6304 And two of those numbers end in 84!!! Somebody's gonna hit it big!
  22. Welcome to ASEAN NOW forum. Where know-it-alls thrive and prejudice against various nations and their people rules the day often even more strongly than the accusations of Thai prejudice toward foreigners. To some degree there may be cause for wonder at being out alone at 2 a.m., although it should be allowed that there very well could be a reasonable explanation, probability would likely show that this is not a wise course of action. That said, not being wise does not equate to guilt, but it can lend toward one needing to take some responsibility for consequences that may come about in such times. Even at that, without knowing the person, and even if they were behaving unwisely, one can have sympathy for them as they may be very innocent and naive, not a delinquent out for no good reason or worse.
  23. You don't seriously define the world by your own limited life experience, do you? I can't imagine not knowing that 7-11 does thriving business at 2 a.m., especially in many areas of Pattaya. I don't suppose they are open for business at that hour to lose money.... Maybe she needed to buy something for her sick infant child? Or maybe she is staying with a Thai family and the grandma is sick and needed something to help her get through the night better. Why the need to assume crap like booze or condoms? What a sadly negative and pessimistic way of thinking. I'm glad I don't have friends who automatically think the worst of things I may do at any given time that may be out of the ordinary of their personal experience....
  24. Do you seriously think so lowly of security guards that you don't think that they might be bright enough to use Google Translate on their own phones regularly to communicate with the vast number of foreigners that come across their path daily???
  25. From the wonderful light that it normally is at 2 a.m.
