  1. You might notice sometime that you don't even need to be going over 10kph to fall on a motorcycle, smack your helmetless head, and die.... It's not a "mystery" at all. Leaving rice drying on the road is more than a "disturbance" and can become a very "big issue" - as witnessed in this case and many others. I don't think it is right to say, "...how one can kill himself by riding into a pile of rice." It is more accurate to say that the rider is killed by the negligence of the farmer.
  2. Yeah, it'd be more interesting and exciting to go back to the frequent shower electrocutions, driving or even walking into construction holes at night, etc, etc, etc We wouldn't want to impose what we might think of as logic onto their paradigm!
  3. Maybe the banks should give their tellers a day or two a week off from bank work and have them go work in the bars on those days. They can make a few extra bucks and learn some English! It's a win all the way around! Their customer service interaction in English at the banks will be light years ahead of any other white collar business! Then they'll probably get recruited to work in some other area of the financial world. What an awesome career move that could be.
  4. You don't say!! "strong unease" now that's some unexpected news! Shocking....
  5. Not sure what kind of roads Thailand had centuries ago, but I doubt any oxcart driver would have had any sort of problem as compared to vehicles of today. Just because there's some sort of tradition, it doesn't mean it is wise to keep it when society is virtually unrecognizable in how the people are living in comparison to those idealized past times, which were far from ideal. It is utter foolishness to allow rice to be dried on public roads, unless the village/town/city has some sort of parameters in place to safely block the roads off for such a purpose. And that kind of organization, as simple as it may be.... NOT gonna happen in Thailand. Too complicated and you gotta think too much to accomplish it.
  6. Someone in government showed symptoms of common sense!? I hope that's contagious! And hope they don't snap out of it. How on earth could one ever think having foreign police on your soil would be a good idea, especially from mafia-like communist tyrants whom the citizens under their thumb might actually be glad to be out from under their purview for a bit and be able to relax and enjoy life on vacation for a bit???
  7. Ok, so you're going to feign as though you only read the first of the two linked articles and try saying you were only referring to that one and didn't know that the other article gave information contrary to what you wrote? And even that first article doesn't line up with what you said! You said, "she said that she didn't know the full details." It didn't say that. As you've quoted above... it said, "she was unsure". But according to your other posts, it is clear that you were aware (but thanks for playing the feign game) and had read at least part of the second linked article and would have been aware that it said that she "could not recall the specifics" (emphasis added). But you had to go on doing your thing even though it is clear that is not the case, even according to what you yourself posted and presumably read (see copied posts below displaying your folly). It's reasonable to presume you read it because you felt the need to include your snide remark to a person that "we're all able to read the, very clear, OP." Well... if you're able to read it and it's very clear, then what in the heck are you going on about!?!? That very thing that is so very clear, which you're able to read said, "she could not recall the specifics" (emphasis added). Nothing in either article about "knowing"! Back to your post/comment policing of anything not oh so very clear content with your impeccable reading acumen. Do better.
  8. Not sure what article you read.... In the article that was linked, it said, "Worasuda also revealed that two days before the incident, an individual had been enquiring about the bar worker at their workplace. However, she could not recall the specifics of that interaction." (emphasis added) As you were... go ahead and get back to correcting everyone's comments.... Edit: And I subsequently saw following posts where you doubled down or should I say tripled down (were there more?) adamantly certain that it wasn't recalling that was the difficulty. It was knowing?? Before being so vigorous in defending yourself or wantonly throwing criticism about, you may want to double check the point your are going on about. But, that's up to you. Carry on.
  9. YES! Definitely CAN! See my previous post, just before this one to get your benefit!
  10. Ok, here's a breakdown to save you time as you rush out to get your lottery tickets! License plate numbers: 4348 - 8591 - 2884 - 4546 - 9099 - 5057 (The first one perhaps being the best choice, since it's the one that caused the mess.) 12 casualties, 8 men and 4 women = 1284 "a major multi-vehicle (6) accident occurred on Highway 304" = 6304 And two of those numbers end in 84!!! Somebody's gonna hit it big!
  11. Welcome to ASEAN NOW forum. Where know-it-alls thrive and prejudice against various nations and their people rules the day often even more strongly than the accusations of Thai prejudice toward foreigners. To some degree there may be cause for wonder at being out alone at 2 a.m., although it should be allowed that there very well could be a reasonable explanation, probability would likely show that this is not a wise course of action. That said, not being wise does not equate to guilt, but it can lend toward one needing to take some responsibility for consequences that may come about in such times. Even at that, without knowing the person, and even if they were behaving unwisely, one can have sympathy for them as they may be very innocent and naive, not a delinquent out for no good reason or worse.
  12. You don't seriously define the world by your own limited life experience, do you? I can't imagine not knowing that 7-11 does thriving business at 2 a.m., especially in many areas of Pattaya. I don't suppose they are open for business at that hour to lose money.... Maybe she needed to buy something for her sick infant child? Or maybe she is staying with a Thai family and the grandma is sick and needed something to help her get through the night better. Why the need to assume crap like booze or condoms? What a sadly negative and pessimistic way of thinking. I'm glad I don't have friends who automatically think the worst of things I may do at any given time that may be out of the ordinary of their personal experience....
  13. Do you seriously think so lowly of security guards that you don't think that they might be bright enough to use Google Translate on their own phones regularly to communicate with the vast number of foreigners that come across their path daily???
  14. From the wonderful light that it normally is at 2 a.m.
  15. Ad hominem personal attacks aren't typically any sort of astute way to make a point. Not conducive to any sort of dialog at all and shouldn't be allowed on the forum IMO. Your attitude could use some serious realignment. You continue to attack me because I tried to offer you some helpful advice, which clearly you aren't interested in and doesn't appear that you are up for the task of self-improvement. If you don't like advice, given in good faith and kindness, that's up to you, of course. You are free to continue on in your way of communication, which, if I'm not mistaken, was the difficulty you made the post about to begin with. It appears that you may have more than only a problem with English writing proficiency. Perhaps you have a problem with communicating well in general (and perhaps in comprehension as well). I don't mean that as an attack. It is a serious observation from the way you've responded here in light of the issue you brought up to begin with. There may be a lot more going on than only cultural differences in your communication/comprehension difficulties. Why would anyone want to have a conversation with you at all when you might just go off half-cocked with ad hominem attacks for no apparent reason? Poor writing proficiency or even poor communication abilities are not something that need to be some sort of dehumanizing thing or any sort of put-down. Some people are skilled at some things and other people aren't. It's a good thing to recognize one's own weakness rather than refusing to accept the fact and attack anyone who may give you any sort of advice to help you improve on a given weakness. By the way, my stepfather was nearly illiterate, but he endeavored to improve and ended up doing a fairly well. If that's where you've come from, then that's great and I hope you continue to improve. In the meanwhile, hopefully you can recognize, since a number of people have told you that your writing is quite difficult to comprehend (And those were the ones who took the time to bother mentioning it to you. Who knows how many just turned away immediately and didn't bother letting you know, in order to help you recognize something for you to work on improving.), that your writing needs great improvement still in order to be more easily understood. Yet, at the same time, don't let that stop you or slow you down in expressing yourself. The more practice, the better. Just take a chill pill and a piece of humble pie, don't take a stand on a high horse, and accept constructive criticism that isn't attacking your character, but simply pointing out a weakness with intention to help. Use it to better yourself, not to become an unduly bitter person.
  16. I had to take a second look at your comment. At first I read it as though you said "the hole matter"! lol
  17. If you would have read what he was replying to, there was absolutely ZERO nastiness in it. It was constructive advice given with the very obvious intent to help the guy, who very obviously has a difficult time expressing himself with decently comprehensible writing in English, as attested to by numerous others also posting about it. He opted to respond with nastiness. I'm guessing you didn't see the original comment that was intended to help him that he was being so nasty toward. I do agree with you though! This forum has LOTS of nasty people. Unfortunately, he opted to be one of them in this case.
  18. BINGO Right on the money! After reading more in the comments, I came to understand a bit better. At first, I actually thought English wasn't his native tongue. I had a very difficult time making heads or tails of his post. It appears a number of others were in that same boat.... But, I was glad to see some others were able to decipher it. Kudos to them!
  19. Thanks for that info. I'll check it out! Google can be worked with if you can read and write Thai, but it's a hassle. My new laptop was purchased abroad and doesn't have the Thai keyboard, so I use Google on the occasion I need to write something in Thai, but it can be a real pain in the neck because the translations are often so whacky. Thankfully, these days I rarely need to write anything in Thai anymore. At one time it was a daily occurrence, which would be untenable with Google. I was guessing that eventually AI would clear these sorts of things up. Looks like it's coming! Thanks again.
  20. Lecture?? lol I wasn't lecturing at all. It's called constructive criticism. I was trying to be helpful for you to be able to communicate better. I guess you are a bit sensitive and can't handle a weakness being pointed out? No, I'm not an English teacher There are a number of people who also mentioned that they had a hard time understanding your post. You should be able to get a clue from that, in order to grasp that you might try a bit harder. I honestly thought English is your second or third language. I believe it may be your first, now that I've read a bit more of the comments. That's some pretty astounding English for a native speaker! Maybe you were drunk? I guess there could be a number of reasons for such incredible syntax....
  21. With the help of some of the interpretations from others here, I might possibly comprehend what the post is about.... MAYBE. Not really sure... That was some seriously challenging convoluted English. HINT: If your English isn't good, try using Google Translate. Use VERY simple sentences. Subject Verb Object (not necessarily in that order, depending on your language...), but the point is to create VERY simple short sentences. These usually get translated pretty well. Sentences with relative clauses, parenthetical expressions, etc., often get translated very poorly, depending on the language be translated. Or, just keep your English sentences very short and simple. Punctuation can also be tremendously helpful.
  22. Yeah, Thai politics is so much more wholesome...🙄
  23. Crypto, if he has any sense.
  24. Gotta deal with the competition ahead of time
  25. You came perilously close to using "work" and "police" in the same sentence, but did refer to that possibility in the ensuing sentence! 🫢😬
