I have used transfer wise since November - use my Uk debit card and never been charged by my UK bank or Thai bank.
Brilliant service IMO

Thanks for the post Sheryl and all the informative replies.
I have a living will made out in 2011 in the UK and witnessed by nurse practitioner.
I resign it every couple years - will this still be valid here?
I have only one brother in the uk who would not agree with the terms I have set out - he believes life should always be prolonged as long as possible.
I do have friends here in Thailand would it be ok for one of them to sign and carry out my wishes - I am thinking of a Thai girl I know very well. But looking at some of the posts would I have to make a new one each time I moved within Thailand.
Many thanks everyone.

About every 2 months. Front doors(glass) every couple of weeks.
Used to live in a place with louvred glass and bars on the inside - nightmare to clean, despite my best efforts never did get the ingrained calcium off the outsides of them

When the wind is blowing I need a shawl to keep me warm. Even the Andaman sea can sometimes feel cold to me. 24C and I wear tights/trousers to keep me warm. Lived for 58 years in the UK and was permanently cold. Mistakenly went back in April one year - never again - so bloomin' cold.

For nearly four years i have been using the atms for money from the UK. I only heard about transferwise a couple of months ago.
Tried it and even though I consider myself to be 'computer thick' it was relatively easy the first time and after that very easy. First heard about it in my local bar - now there are many of us using it from many different countries in the world.

You could also ask a friend to top it up for you. Just give him/her your number and cash and ask them to do it before your credit expires. A message should appear on your phone when you land.

When I left the UK I left behind over 1000 books - reference books, fiction and non-fiction. I always had a book open - either reading for pleasure or looking something up. Yes I miss the easy access to books but having the internet means I can easily find info when I need it.
Also use the internet to 'keep up' with world events - newspapers on a daily basis are so very expensive here in Thailand.
Also use skype/whatsapp to keep in contact with friends around the world.
In short my life would be much poorer without it. I consider it an essential now.
However I do know many people who seem to manage quite well without and some of these are in the 30-50 years age bracket.
PS I guess I would be classed as a 'silver surfer' but I dye my hair 555555

If you like them so much why not make your own?
Mr Moo pork sausages - skinned
Jus-Rol shortcrust pastry.
roll out pastry roll sausage meat into a long thinnish, roll cover in pastry, brush with a beaten egg, bung in the oven gas mark 8 for 15 mins and then gas mark 3 for 1 hour - perfect and easy to freeze afterwards.

How do the agencies do it? They cannot "lend" you 800,000 for 3 months--can they??
I actually do know someone who does this via an agency. Bankbook and card + pin number handed over. Also passport. Takes two months and costs 30,000 baht - nice bit of interest on 800,000 for two months.!!!

My marriage extension is due in April, so I will be looking to get my BE income letter soon, the worry I have is that my passport expires in November 2019 so will be looking to renew the passport before I go to immigration in April. Will there be any problems with the passport number not tallying with the passport number on the income letter?
I went last month to Phuket immigration for my retirement extension. I had a letter from BE re income declaration. The letter stated that I was a 'He' not a 'she'. Also my address had changed but it did not seem to be a problem.

And of course the "Daily Mail" who are banned in Thailand due to their negative articles on Thailand.
Off thread a bit however, it is possible to buy the Daily Mail as a newspaper in Thailand.
I find this most bizarre.

I too was given this to fill in/supply when I went to Phuket immigration last week.
Got it all done and going again on Thursday.

Just to let everyone know I have just e-mailed [email protected].
Received an automated reply saying my letter cannot be dealt with as I am not resident in South West Surrey.
Instead to contact him at;
Sorry if this is a repetition of another post - I must admit I haven't read all of them.

This is just another way of the UK officials turning their back on you and giving you zero support from the UK embassy here.
I have experience just how unsupportive the US embassy is here, as they wanted to throw me out of Thailand early on over a minor infraction in my visa, even though Thai immigration said it was an easy fix, just to get a document paper from the US embassy, fill it out and have the problem fixed, which the US embassy tried to say I stole a copy of the document a high Thai officer gave me, to show to get one from US embassy. It cost me $30 in all and the US embassy dudes wouldn't apologize for being dead wrong.
I think that in some ways the UK government does care about me - I still pay tax there and when I eventually receive my UK pension that also will be taxed, but I am not entitled to any health care etc when I visit.
Good innit?????

I can't speak for any Brits, but I know a couple of Americans who get the Income Verification from the U.S. Consulate here in Chiang Mai, who do not meet the financial requirements. And this is what Immigration wants to eliminate. If you're legal, no problem. If you're not, your out of here, as it should be.
I provide the British embassy with all of my annual P60's and the rental agreement on my house in the UK. None of these are bogus - my NI(national Insurance) number is printed on each one of the forms. I will not receive my State Pension until I am 66(2 years time).
I came to live in Thailand because it is cheaper than living in the UK. The forms I provide are my actual income. Yes I could transfer it all to a Thai bank account but from what I have read it is so difficult to get it back to the country of origin.
Also even with my high spending lifestyle I do not spend 65,000 baht a month on living expenses.
I will be OK until next November 2019 and then I will have to rethink my position here.
Thailand will lose out if I and many others like me decide to decamp and go to another country,

I use the confirmation letter of proof of income from the British Embassy. i send original copies of my P60s and house rental agreement. The cost of transferring funds on a monthly basis would be astronomical as i have 5 different pension providers, plus the house rental. Also i need to leave funds in the UK to cover any costs associated with my house.
i do not have any savings so where would that put me next year? Do i take along all my bank statements? Would the local IO really be bothered to wade through so much paperwork? I do not think so.
Might move to another country but after 4 years here I really do not want to.
I do not think I will be alone with this sort of problem.

I pay 1500 baht for 100 tabs diazepam 10mg from my local pharmacy. Have checked others out - 200baht for 20 tabs and 300baht for 10 tabs. It varies greatly. Do not need a script either.
Very, very rarely do I take them - they are for my friend in the UK who has a real hassle to get them and 100 tabs last her a year.

Also in the UK we have nurse practitoners who can prescribe any class of drug. One academic year of one day trainng a week and at least ten hours of home study plus essays and a dissertation.
I know this as was one. Very hard study but so interesting. Annual updates were also required.
However here in Thailand drugs are dispensed otc willy-nilly. I was horrified when I first came here to see what could be bought otc without a Doctor/Nurse prescription.
On the plus side though it is handy if anyone runs out of their regular medication they can buy it otc without any hassle - does depend on the nature of the drug sometimes though.

Mobile or land line? No. You'll use the Skype app, either on computer or mobile device. No need to worry about calling codes; my Skype asks what country I'm calling and applies the country code automatically.
Thanks for that - need to phone the uk tomorrow so will try it.

I use the swan coils - I put it in a metal bowl to catch the ash. Not worried about the toxicity of them after 45+ years of fags don't think it will make any difference.
When I go out at night I spray on Avon skin so soft dry oil spray. Used this in many countries in the world and it seems to work better on me than anything else.
