One of my favourites, although I can't do it if wifey is with me, in Big C, I will saunter around the electrical appliances until one of the staff comes over. I will then ask, in Thai, all about the appliance. It is unusual to find someone who can do this, so ... I turn it around and spend 20 minutes showing them how it works and explaining the dos and don'ts, to the utter amazement of everyone.

Fluency allows you to do this btw

How exciting, I am so jealous.

Off down to the Uni to enrol on a Thai language course a.s.a.p.

Not sure about stuff like a hotel room or flight, but up-country, I could probably get you a good deal on vegetables, manure for your garden and similar things.  I used to get good deals on scrap metal and the like from the local junkyards.  But you got to like that stuff.

Keep taking the tablets, now, there's a good boy.

This happened to me yesterday. I had a massage and gave the woman who owns the place a thousand note and she was asking a lot of questions like where do you come from etc etc and then offered to hail a taxi for me and when i nearly home in the taxi i realised there was no change. Seems like the after sales politeness was a distraction.

Not a happy ending then !

  4. The dogs are Soi dogs, nothing at all to do with 7/11.

Chase them away, and sure, they will return.

A lot of them are rabid, and a bite from them could be serious, so why should the employees put their health on the line to appease you ?

I suggest you write to the manager, asking him to employ a full time dog chaser for outside the store, to make your shopping a bit easier.

    Why are you curious?

    Did it ding a bell?????

Maybe if people knew the location, it might ding someone's bell.

I know someone who moved South to be in that game, and, to be honest, although he appears a nice guy, it is the type of thing he would do . He is a tough guy, and he plays on that, as not many people would challenge him, for fear of violence.

I follow this topic with interest.
Not because my girlfriend has asked me to buy her a house, but because we talked about building a new house.
She lives now with her mother in a house made of wood and corrugated sheet. Naar Buriram.
The rain leaks through the roof. No bathroom, even no toilet.
    Very sad.

She already bought a small piece of land (adjacent to her mothers house) and some concrete pillars and wood boards. They are 'sleeping now' (her words) near the old house, waiting to be used.
She told me that with 200.000 THB she could start building a new house (western style) with at least a toilet/bathroom.
Only very basic. I think only a roof and walls. Not more.
Then slowly, every time when there is some money again, she can make some improvements.

She knows someone from the village who can build the house. (Same one who has built the house for her father.)

I am seriously thinking of giving her this money. (By the way, she did not ask me for it.)
It is sure a lot of money for me, but I am not broke when I give it away.
And more important, mother and daughter can have a decent life.
They are both good peaple, so far I know.

That is why I am following this topic.
Also because there are some answers regarding the prices of houses.

If you don't pay, maybe she will have to go and work back in the bar.

  7. The best attribute you can bring to Thailand, is the ability to live alone. I am not saying that living alone is better or worse than being in a relationship, every individual is different. However, I have met many that could not live alone, ended up stuck in a meaningless relationship, and the dream of living their final years here turned into complete misery.

Hi Possum1931, I think that to a certain degree I disagree with your comment about the business owners. Anybody opening a bar here, or an establishment selling alcohol must perform their due diligence checks. Part of due diligence would be finding out that in Thailand there are a certain number of days every year when they would not be allowed to sell alcohol. This would be taken into consideration when establishing the expected profitability of the proposed business venture.

In the event that the business is started and then is not doing very well, it is neither correct nor fair to expect Thailand to change it's rules to accommodate the business owner. It is up to the entrepreneur to find a successful solution whilst working within the rules.

This addition to the 'no alcohol' days was only added last year.

If you bought a bar previous to this you would not anticipate a closure.

Just found some info on ILIKEHD UK TV, it seems it is on Sky 4, the opening is being shown at 1500hrs this afternoon and the foursomes begin at 1830hrs tonight. The buffering on the channel is horrendous, might make it unwatchable for me. :saai:

I am watching it on iLIKEHD and mine does not buffer at all.
