I don't mind paying the inflated price here, and staying warm, and able to get out and about !

1 . I have wanted to stop smoking for years and 10 quid a pack has given me an incentive to do so .
2. I wasnt into being promiscuous in Thailand , so didnt participate in disease risk sex .
3 . People seem to be a lot slimmer in the UK these days , so being a bit overweight is noticeable , compared to Thailand where its quite normal to be overweight
4. I went to a NHS hospital last week with bruised/cracked ribs and the nurse explained to me that if my ribs were cracked , they wouldnt put a caste/bandage on , just send me home and sit it out waiting for it to naturally heal .
She checked to make sure that it wasnt serious ,didnt give me an x-ray and told me to get some pain killers if it hurt and sent me home .
Had I been in Thailand , they would have given me an x-ray , done every test possible , maybe kept me in for a few nights , bandaged me up and given me a whole host of medicines (from their own over priced pharmacy) and told me to go back every five days for a check-up and more medication .
Would have ended up costing 5-30 000 Baht in Thailand , whilst in the Uk , just had to get myself a pack of painkillers
I have been twice over the past 2 years to Government Hospitals here, and, yes, they did give me an x-ray, to make sure there were no jagged edges (as your great NHS hospital should have done), and with the x-ray, consultation and Tramadol painkillers, it was just over 500 baht.
No hospital puts a caste/bandage on for bruised/cracked ribs in this day and age, and to suggest 5-30,000 baht here is luducrous !

A friend of mine needed a hernia operation, after a consultation in our local Government hospital.
The doctor told him straight, you can get it done here, in about 5 weeks, total cost 40,000 baht.
However, he also advised him that he could perform to operation in a private hospital here, the following week, total cost 120,000 baht !
My friend waited the 5 weeks, had the successful operation done in the Government hospital, and says he won't use any other hospital here. He is certainly not poor, but couldn't see the sense in spending the inflated price for the same operation, especially as the same doctor would have done it.

Lol way off the mark....even back in 1992 there were four Iss Laguna, King Kong, Bullring and Blue Hawaii......by the time 1998 came around it was into double figures
Not forgetting Jimmy Macs, who opened in the late 80's, sold out to the Queen Vic, and opened a smaller bar, further down the soi, same name, for Nang's niece and husband to run. Sadly, Jimmy passed away nearly 20 years ago, but the bar is still there.

Actually, the lake I walk around, Beung Kaen Nakhorn in Khon Kaen, must have over 100 stray dogs there every day, and they have never been a threat to either me, or other walkers/joggers as far as I am aware, in 5 years.
As for the burning season, as it is close to the city centre, and away from the crop fields, the air never bothers me, and when I go to the asthma clinic every 3 months, my spirometer reading improves every time. It is also kept clean on a daily basis, and I have never seen broken bottles lying around.
In a simiar environment in the UK, I would be in fear of moped gangs, knife gangs and smackheads.

I am just off for my leisurely walk around a local lake here in Thailand, 4.45am I'll start.
Pretty sure I couldn't do that back in my home city in the UK, although not been back for 14 years myself !

Can't I just type my predictions on here every week ?

It baffles me why people start these posts. If you are not happy with Thailand, and are moving to a new destination, why not just go ? Why make a song and dance about it on Thaivisa ?
You are probably trying to convince yourself that you are doing the right thing by posting about it, and like many who have left before you, you will still be on TV for years to come.

Overkil.
478 mostly-illegal foreigners rounded up in immigration raid
So they allow illegals to stay there ?
Handy for the people who cannot meet the immigration requirements in Thailand to know ! ????

"I would suggest a few trips here on vacation, before retirement, before making the decision, as Thailand is not for everyone."
A few trips here on vacation doesn't help at all, as living here is entirely different!
I didn't say it wasn't different, I first came in 1991, retired here in 2005.
At least I had a feel for the place, and knew a bit about the place I was retiring to.
My trips helped me immensely in making my decision, as opposed to upping sticks, and moving to a place unknown to me.

If it was a straight choice between Thailand and UK, as long as they can meet the necessary requirements, it is a no brainer, the UK is finished, (including the once great NHS).
I would suggest a few trips here on vacation, before retirement, before making the decision, as Thailand is not for everyone.

Maybe if you had received your university degree like me, worked for the same company for 40 years, retired with an 18 month pay severance package, company pension, 401k, IRAs and my gov't SS pension and managed to save several million USD which are invested in stocks & CDs, then maybe you could afford to treat yourself once a year for 15k THB and not to have to wait in line at immigration. I spend that every week on eating out & entertainment. Hope you're enjoying your retirement because I am...
You may want to think before putting foot in mouth...
Not many multi-millionaires (that's in USDs) post on Thai Visa either, except you, of course !

I think you will find that there are a lot of expats here, that could not live on their own. Cannot cook, clean, iron, etc., most things that back home the 'housewife' used to do for them. Most of this type stay in relationships, rather than being on their own, unable to do these everyday chores.

I dont want to search for programmes because I dont necessarily know what programme I want to watch. Also a search can sometimes return dozens of results from which I then have to pick the one I want without being able to see the details of it.
I want to just see a text list of all programmes on a particular channel going back several days, without at the same time having to look at details of programmes on other channels that I'm not interested in.What's so hard about that?
I use (and always have done) https://tv24.co.uk for all my programme searching, you can find a weeks previous programmes, as well as the following 7 days programmes.
When I find one I want to watch, I simply go back to TV Mucho, find the programme, either using the 'guide' or 'search' facility, and there I have it. All for the bargain sum of 48 Euros for the year.
What's so hard about that?

I would suggest that the 'many' are correct.
Your target audience will be the ones who cannot prove the necessary income here, and those who don't trust Thai banks (????) with 400/800,000 baht. Most others seem happy, and settled here.

4 minutes ago, Enoon said:Garston is a dismal, grey, characterless, nowhere-ville attached to North Watford.
A place of banishment and death, only notable and only visited for it's crematorium (where several friends and family have gone up in smoke).
As a Hertfordshire native who knows the dump and has experienced the cities at both ends of the M62 (Liverpool and Hull) I would choose either of them over Garston any day.
Garston is in South Liverpool, famous for certain footballers like John Aldridge and Jimmy Case.
I enjoyed my 45 years there, but was eventually glad to move here for the climate, for medical reasons.

Ive been here almost 15 years total but 3 years up CM so may have missed that .
I've been here 15 years this September, but also never been back to the UK. In fact, during those years, I've only been to Laos and Vietnam, apart from here.
So in those 15 years, the coldest I have experienced is 13 degrees, and it was <deleted> bitter, wooly hat and glove weather !

Got a mate comes to see me from Garston (where I'm from), arriving after Songkran, and he would swap Liverpool for Khon Kaen any day, if he had the money.
Comparing the 2 cities, here wins hands down, and well worth putting up with some extreme heat for.

Never been interested in his yt...i have better things in life to do.
As for go fund me...he can go home and NHS will sort him out. Even thou he appears to have lived in Thailand chasing young girls for many years.
There is a word for that but i wont use on here as would upset 99% of people that live in Thailand for same reasons.
I will be honest...i lived overall 12 months in the last 2 years in Bkk...cant think of a more boring place to live...maybe as i have a gf who is not Thai...i did not need to go chase bargirls.
Im back in UK and my gf will be coming to live here with me once as her contract is finished in Bkk.
As for the weather...and pollution in Bkk...100% rather live the 4 seasons here...nice to feel the cold air and await the spring and summer.
I keep reading the forums when i can...almost all of you on here are moaners.
Dont like Thailand? Then go somewhere else...STOP THE MOANING
I think most of the moaners are going home, and, reading your post, I think you've started the ball rolling.

In your books yes, but it all depends on the individual and what their wants and needs are.
Some need a holiday overseas twice a year while some need the bowling club once a week.
Some want to be near family
( grandchildren etc ) while some want to be as far away from family as they can get.
Some hate cold weather, some hate hot weather.
Some like to relax, read etc while others want to walk, go to exercise classes or something you can't do in Thailand have a little business sideline and maybe make a few quid a week from it.
You can't really make a statement that another persons 'retirement life style' is a bad choice just because it's not what you like.
Above is not to criticise you, it's just a comment. ☺
You, quite conveniently, missed out the "some pensioners NEED to go to food banks in the UK, just to survive". That is not a choice, it is a necessity.

Unless you bring in a stringent driving test, neither are a lot of others on the road here.
