  1. Churchill's vid posting is spot on (and I think most posters that have been following this thread since *cough* late 2008) are knowledeable enough to know that:

We are indeed, in a race to the bottom.

    In more ways than one.

    Japan, US, and other nations.....

i'd be very happy should my portfolio show another 4½ years "race to the bottom" as it did since 2008 smile.png

in more than three decades i never experienced such a long continous winning streak. needless to say that apart from some purchase of physical gold all the gains are just worthless fiat money.

    Naam,

My portfolio has done well also. Very well. ALL of US have done well.

How long will it last? I have no idea. We....have no idea.

  2. Unfortunately the 2 steam options you mentioned above will not do the trick. Hot showers not always useful as it may increase body temp to an uncomfortable level before you had enough steam. Boiling pots are OK for kids but an adult needs substantially more over a longer period of time. May be worthwhile investing in a "facial sauna" as used by some beauty therapists for skin pore treatment or a conventional steam room in a gym. Being a "natural" remedy, it takes patience and persistance but it will work.

    Thanks you, FBN.

Steam room sounds like a suitable option.

  3. It sounds like a "Reactive Airways" problem in response to an allergic stimulus. Seasonal may mean it is something in the environment and probably plant/pollen related.

I'm in north Vietnam now. This has happened every Dec or Jan or Feb for the last 5-6 years.

It may be useful to combine the inhalant with an antihistamine or even use a steroid based inhaler in combination.

    Thank you.

Inhaling steam is very useful and can combine that with an aromatherapy solution. Any inflammation in the airways (the narrowing causes the wheezing) disrupts the normal mucous production and steaming aids this; prevents thick secretions getting stuck in the airways and become infected.

    Thanks.

So, I can two 2 things for steam, I think.

    1. Take a very hot shower which causes my my shower stall/bathroom to get very steamy.

    2. boil water in my pot and breathe the steam in and out.

Bot are good? I assume using the hot shower technique means more steam and longer time.

I still have an achy body and feel tired.

    Thanks, FBN.

  4. Over the years I've read the "Health, Body, and Medicine" section a lot. It's been very helpful.

I have a typical Winter problem in the colder parts that has happened every Dec or Jan or Feb for the last 5-6.

    Here are the symptoms:

    1. Thicker breathing. Like a mini-wheez. If I lay horizontal (to sleep) the wheezing keeps me from sleeping. I have tried to sleep sitting up.

    2. A cough that develops slowly over a couple days but become so deep that my throat ends up hurting.

    3. Achy body

    4. Low energy, and I probably am over sleeping.

It started creeping up over the last 2 days and now it' official day 1.

This almost always last 10 fulls days.

    I don't want anti-biotics and don't think I need it.

The only thing I've taken is Asthalin [sic?], which is an over-the-counter inhaler. It has worked temporarily for about 10-25 minutes.

    Question and looking for advice:

What natural remedies can I take?

Any steaming of any natural things to clear out my lungs?

Many thanks in advance to anyone that chooses to help.

    -WT

  5. I agree with FBN about the ice and you could also try putting on a medication like tiger balm on the affected area at night and wearing a shirt to bed (so that the shoulder is covered up).

    Thanks, Neha

I never thought about the Tiger Balm. I will try it. As for covering up the shoulder, it is very hot where I am at and I do not use A/C at night but one fan and it's still hot.

It is possible (though not too likely) that the cramp was caused by a sodium or potassium deficiency so some electrolytes (gatorade) or potatoes + salt won't hurt. Also plenty of fluids.

I hever thought of a sodium or potassium deficiency.

But over the last few days I have been dehydrated as I am in a heat wave. I will drink more water, add more sodium to my diet and eat some bananas. Thanks for the advice.

  6. If the pain is at the back of the top of the shoulder, it is probably a strain of the long head of the triceps muscle (search triceps muscle strain) and see if your symptoms fit.

Best to rest it with an ice pack over the painful area. Anti-inflammatory drugs may help as well.

    Thanks, FBN.

I took Anti-Inflammarotires (Indocine/Indomethacin) and they worked immediately. I took 3 dosages of 50 mg every 6 hours after food and w/ a glass of water.

After one full day ( 3 dosages) I decided to stop taking them, and the stiffness and pain returned slowly and steadily and then became as 100% painful and immobile as before.

So I started taking the anti-inflamm again.

it's now been 72 hours, 3 full days.

  7. 2 days ago my shoulder felt "tight." I'm 41 and stopped going to the gym 2 months ago because of work schedule and honestly, laziness.

Instinctively, I stretched it, taking my left arm and straightening it and pushing my left arm across my chest with my right arm. (I've forgetton the name of this stretch exercise.)

My mistake was stretching cold. And I did this once.

Since then, my should has largely been immobile. It has a pain at the top of the shoulder. It hurts when I bend down forward.

    Pain and immobility.

Should I just wait ? Try anti-imflammatories? Acupuncuture?

Note* - I have never injured this should in any way, ever. This happen just by one stretch.

Thanks to anyone that can offer advice.

  8. I cannot say, but hair loss is usually the result of mail pattern baldness.

Biopsy (blood test) usually confirms this. It did with me.

I take a pharma medicine that works for me - but if this lotion is working, then I say, keep using it.

    Keep us posted on this.

  9. Thanks for the info on the NSA, Midas. Very disturbing - once again.

As for Prison Planet (still with Alex Jones correct?) on the delay of an Iran strike, it's hard to say: maybe true, partially true, or false.

Alex Jones has gotten a LOT of things wrong in the last couple of years. I still think he has value, but but he's gotten his predictions wrong, including on his predictions of an Iran strike a couple of times.

    We shall see.....

  10. And this....This was published in the Huffington Post recently. True? It must be.

\The new Executive Order states that the president and his secretaries have the authority to commandeer all U.S. domestic resources, including food and water, as well as seize all energy and transportation infrastructure inside the borders of the United States. The Government can also forcibly draft U.S. citizens into the military and force U.S. citizens to fulfill "labor requirements" for the purposes of "national defense." There is not even any Congressional oversight allowed, only briefings. In the NDAA, only the president had the authority to abrogate legitimate freedoms of U.S. citizens. What is extraordinary in the new Executive Order is that this supreme power is designated through the president to the secretaries that run the Government itself:

    • The Secretary of Defense has power over all water resources;

    • The Secretary of Commerce has power over all material services and facilities, including construction materials;

    • The Secretary of Transportation has power over all forms of civilian transportation;

    • The Secretary of Agriculture has power over food resources and facilities, livestock plant health resources, and the domestic distribution of farm equipment;

    • The Secretary of Health and Human Services has power over all health resources; (I highlight this to focus on his obamicare)

    • The Secretary of Energy has power over all forms of energy.

The Executive Order even stipulates that in the event of conflict between the secretaries in using these powers, the president will determine the resolution through his national security team.

The 2012 NDAA gave the Government the right to abrogate any due process against a U.S. citizen. The new Executive Order gives the government, through the Secretary of Labor, the right to proactively mobilize U.S. citizens for "labor" as the government deems necessary and to coordinate with the Secretary of Defense to maintain data to coordinate the nation's work needs in relation to national defense.

What is extraordinary about the Executive Order is that, like the NDAA, this can all be done in peacetime without any national emergency to justify it.

  11. Now you know why I am getting the heck out of Dodge?

Actually Obama & GWB before him has had the US in a National State OF Emergency

for well over a decade now....A Decade !

That allows them to side step many Constitutional/ Congressional checks & balances.

The whole thing smacks & if Americans don't get the heck off the couch soon there will be a new

Amerika & yes they will wonder too late what the hell happened....I'm not waiting

Yes, the US has changed dramatically over the last 11 years.

There have been many laws passed - slipped into bills - and are now laws. But they are not being enforced - yet.

The Patriot Acts I and II. Why would a bill/act be called such a thing? So politicians running for re-election every 2 years in the house would vote for it.

Lots of additional laws on the book. The USA has already turned the corner. It's a process that started about 70 years ago (but even that is debatable).

The vast majority of Americans are asleep. They've never been astute on these matters.

I've been living as an expat for 11 years. I am happy.

  12. jaideecm,

Well done. Congratulations and keep it up. I bet you feel better and many things are easier to do.

Any specific ways you changed your diet? Just curious. Did you drink beer before? Cut back on beer, if you did?

Just asking because I am now losing weight, but at a slower pace, but I am staying consistent. I am still 40 lbs (about 20 kilos) over weight.

  13. Durable good consumption (stuff that lasts 3 years or more such as washers, dryers, etc) fell 4% last month.

This is the largest drop in 3 years.

Source: CNN cable. (I know it sux).

Folks, I firmly believe the US will see reduced growth and a technical recession (2 quarters of neg growth) or a non-technical recession (anemic growth, continued high unemployment, stagnant and declining wages, drops in consumption spending b/c of high gas prices.

Gas prices are already hitting $5 per gallon in CA and FL, and the Iran dillemma has not kicked off in earned yet, with sanctions hitting hard in a couple month (and the possibility of a strike).

I suppose I'll stay in South East Asia for another year.....

  14. A report came out from the ECRI yesterday, forecasting another recession. The ECRI does have a consisten track record. It's calling for a US recession by Fall. On another note, American consumer CC debt is on the rise again.

Credit Card Debt Nears Toxic Levels

Updated: Sunday, 26 Feb 2012, 4:19 PM EST

    Published : Sunday, 26 Feb 2012, 4:19 PM EST

(New York Post) - More American households are falling back into the debt hole, this time without the safety net of home values to help bail them out, the New York Post reported Sunday.

Last year, total US consumer debt reached its highest point in a decade, according to a credit card industry observer.

"Now more than ever, families need to work at saving and paying off any outstanding debts," said Howard Dvorkin, a certified public accountant and founder of the credit counseling service Consolidated Credit.

After a few months of reducing credit card debt levels, Dvorkin said, Americans are starting to return to their reliance on debt.

"People made some progress in reducing card debt earlier in the year, but in the last few months, as the stock market started to rise, they started to return to their old ways of charging things," he explained.

In December 2011, the total consumer debt -- which is the combination of non-revolving and revolving debt -- rose by some 9.3 percent to $2.498 trillion, according to the latest Federal Reserve Board numbers.

  15. Flying thank you for this book! Janet Tavakoli is one of the people I follow. Tuesday, Asia time here? Or...Western time. Regardless, I'll try to get it on my kindle free of charge.

    Cheers.

P.S. - you do have to sign up for the Amazon "prime" program. The cost is $79 usd per year. Yes, you can "borrow" (read) Janet Tavokoli's book and some others but there is a fee.

However....there is a one month free trial for the "Prime" program. You can read Tavakoli's book and others, and then decline to join after the one month....but make sure you rescind, because their bill will be automatically charge to your credit card.

Still, it's a good deal, if someone wants to do the trial. Tavakoli is always worth following.

  16. sidjameson:

I know there are a few well informed posters on this forum regarding training. Hopefully one of you guys can help. smile.png

    I am 43. 180cm. 79kg.

I do push ups and sit ups and jogging most days.

I want to add 3kg but obviously in a good way.

I definitely want the firm and toned look rather than the big look.

I'm chiming into your question a bit late in this thread.

There is not such thing as "tone" or "toning." This misnomer is a word created by the "fitness industry."

Better to exercise every day which burns the fat..i like it as i now find it much harder to keep a 6 pack.

Exercise is a key component of course, but that ol' saying goes: "diet is everything."

To keep/maintain or get a six-pack you have to reduce your Body Fat percentage (BF%) to around 7-9/10% depending on your body type. This will be done by exercise but also an extremely clean diet. Your Macros must be very clean.

But is it better to get to the e gym 3 times a week?

You need to have a split. A weight training and cardio regimen including a very clean diet, which will have a lot of protein (protein supplements).

I guess in a nutshell...can I 'tone' myself up to 82kg or do I need more?

Yes, you can add LBM (lean body mass) = muscle.

A weight training program built around core exercises and a clean diet with a lot of protein.

  17. Was the allied fighting in World War 2 a failure? Something that crackpot Ron Paul was against. Something about his lack of interest in saving Jews.

I'd have been against it too, and our involvement in WWI. You were born into a paradise and you just can't stand it that it's not a sewer like practically everywhere else. Maybe because you allegiance lies elsewhere? Lots of people made lots of money going to war. America got into lots of debt over it. So what changed Other than hanging some new paper on new debtors I mean?

I see it the way you do, lannarebirth.

We've been conditioned since elementary school that entering the European theater was the right thing to do.

Hitler and Stalin was awful. The US aided Staling.

Lots of money made during WWII and it provided the rise of the Military Industrial-Complex, US Hegemony, the US Dollar as the world currency reserves, and unleashed expansion of American Empire interest. WWII gave gave birth to it.
