Have not visited immigration office yet ( not even sure where nearest one is !! ) as I've left the country a couple of times but would like to get a Thai car license ( using IDP now) and therefore will need a certificate of residency.
Am in a rented apartment , so will 6 months of bills from apartment be enough ?, I am assuming no because my name is not mentioned on said bills.
So my question is:
Do I get a letter from apartment stating I have lived there for 6 months ?
Or do I get them to fill in a form ( tm 30 I think) which seems overly complicated ?

Excellent photos VF, I'm in Chiang Rai right now with my girl doing a road trip from Pathum Thani, stopped off at a few places including Chiang Mai and of course Dói Suthep.
Your photos really bring out the natural beauty of Northern Thailand.
Probably gonna stay here a couple of days and will use your photos as a "guide " to some great scenery.
Thanks again and keep them coming .
P.s. not wanting to hijack your thread with my photos just want to add to your great photos with some basic ones of my own to show others what there is to offer up here.

I find KLM okay, not terrible or great just okay.
Air France are terrible, and CDG continues to be the worst airport in the world.
Emirates are very good but you pay more for it.
Someone mentioned Malaysian!, they should be very cheap after the run of luck they had a couple of years ago !

We were in a rented apartment but my Thai girlfriend quoted her mothers address as a reference, no docs required.

Thanks again guys.
This is exactly why i asked the question, it can be misleading and I was under the wrong impression.

Thanks for the quick and precise responses.
My date of issue is 17 October 2016 and enter before 16 October 2017.
I'll use these dates as my 1st year.
Not doubting you SaintLouisBlues but as there is only a week between my arrival date and date of issue I'll play it safe and go with mahjongguy and Joe's advice.

First, my apologies as this has probably been posted many times.
I would like to get my head around the basics of the O-A visa.
The way I see it is :
I entered Thailand on an O-A visa 24th Oct 2016 and received a stamp until 23rd Oct 2017.
I can leave and come back to Thailand as I like during this period and will receive a 1 year stamp every time.
I have to report to immigration if I am in Thailand for 90 days.
If I time it right and leave and return shortly before 23rd October 2017 I will receive a stamp for a further 12 months.
During this 12 months ( the second year) I continue to report every 90 days but if I leave Thailand I need to obtain an entry permit to return.
At the end of the second year I can obtain a one year extension and continue to report (90 days) or leave and return with entry permits.
These extensions can then be renewed yearly.
As I said, this is the basics obviously there are conditions for this to happen ( proof of income, residence etc)
Just wanted to know if I'm on the right track and will take each step as it arrives .

It's always nice to hear about good experiences. In my dreams there would be a way to renew my May 12th retirement extension in February, just cutting it short by three months and giving me a period of stay of one year from the date that I renewed. I would like to be out of the country from March 1st to December 1st. In my non- bureaucratic mind it would possible. Of course we all know that the only way to adjust the expiration date of your period of stay is to re-enter the country about 150 days before you want your next retirement extension to become effective and make three trips to Immigration. It would save the country money if it could be otherwise. Just dreaming.....
Dream on !!

I tried Kasikorn at a few branches and they wanted a work permit, decided to try Bangkok Bank and at the 3rd branch succeeded.
I was on a tourist visa and only needed my passport and a small deposit ( 10,000 baht I think)
I succeeded at Future Park Rangsit branch.
My advice would be just keep trying different branches, Bangkok Bank worked for me, I have a savings account with an ATM card.

I've just entered Thailand ( 24th Oct) on a O-A visa and will report to immigration shortly ( am living in Pathum Thani)
What are the main requirements:
i.e. Should I go before 90 days and if so by how much ?
What docs do I need to present?, passport and what else ??
Any do's and don'ts ??
Any recommendations !

Yeah, obviously it's not an option for everyone, but most people looking at getting a O-A visa will go to Thailand before they get their O-A as in my case. If I can find the medical form I will post to this thread.
Mine went like this: I already suspected my English Gp's letter would not be acceptable so one day I printed the form and with my Thai girlfriend went to the local hospital, paid 360 baht, had a blood pressure check, they took a blood sample, then checked height, weight etc, took about 30 mins.
Waited approx 1 hour then saw a doctor who gave me a 2 minute once over with the stethoscope then signed the form + medical sheet.
simple as that !!
Have added photos of results

When I did mine I just got a letter from my GP saying I didn't have any of the communicable diseases but then decided to get it done in Thailand as well using the form downloaded from Thai embassy website as I thought the GP's letter would not be sufficient and sure enough it wasn't !!
So i just went to local hospital and paid 360 baht ( around £8.50) . If getting it done in Thailand is an option for you I would certainly recommend it .Cheap and quick, and the Thai embassy in London accepted mine for my O-A visa.

With the O-A visa you also have to be over 50 years old and cannot work inside of Thailand ( volunteer unpaid work is ok I think ).

Thanks again.

Okay, thanks.

I've been coming and going to Thailand for a year now on tourist visas.
On 17th October 2016 I got a Non Immigrant O-A multiple entry visa and entered on 24th October 2016, got an entry stamp till 23rd October 2017, just wanted to clarify a couple of points :
NOTE: this is O-A not just O visa
I have to appear at immigration every ( or slightly before) 90 days, ?
What happens if I go out the country and come back in within this 90 days ?, does my 90 days start over or stick to original 90 day schedule
